Chapter Twenty-Nine: Life-Threatening Danger

I was probably too excited, because my voice unconsciously rose a few decibels.

Huo Yu's deep black eyes flickered slightly, his eyelashes were long and thick, and his ears, which were like gold ingots, turned red.

"What I mean is, I really need your help with the upcoming exams." I hurriedly removed my hand, hiding the shyness in my eyes: "After all, these final exams are quite difficult."

"It's not difficult, I'll help you improve a bit more." Huo Yushen smiled warmly, and something seemed to be hidden behind his metal-framed glasses.

I know he agreed.

"Huo Yushen, you can go about your business." I couldn't help but smile.

It's good that he agreed.

"But you can go about your business." I looked at him with a smile. "You just need to remember to let me know you're safe every day. That's not too much to ask, is it?"

He was slightly taken aback.

"Can't it be this simple?" I felt a little wronged.

“Of course,” he agreed.

I smiled with satisfaction: "Then I will work hard and not let Teacher Huo down."

He smiled gently, a smile as clear as a gentle breeze and a bright moon.

"Oh, right." I remembered something: "There's a countdown in the central square tonight, do you want to go?"

He hesitated for a moment: "Shall we leave now?"

"It can be later." I smiled and took out a math test paper. "How about Mr. Huo tutors you?"

He smiled and nodded.

We sat down together. I picked up my pen to write on the test paper, and he sat next to me, keeping track of the time and occasionally sending messages on his phone.

The time came to eight o'clock in the evening.

Huo Yushen and I left after having dinner at home.

Because many people go to the central square to participate in the countdown, traffic jams begin even when you are still several kilometers away.

Huo Yushen and I got out of the taxi and walked towards the square.

It's cold.

I was wearing a white down jacket, my whole face was tucked behind the collar, and my little face was all rosy.

"Give me your hand." Huo Yushen's voice was deep and magnetic.

I will obey.

He actually pulled out two new hand warmers from his coat pocket.

Then I tore open the packaging and put the two hand warmers into my palms.

"Put your hands in your pockets and don't take them out; that will warm you up." Huo Yushen's expression was serious and focused.

"And what about you?" I looked at him with bright, watery eyes.

“I’m a man, I’m not cold,” Huo Yushen replied.

I pursed my lips.

But he really is a clueless straight man; Gu Heng is much smarter than him in that respect.

I've experienced it firsthand.

In my past life, Gu Heng saw that I seemed to be giving up on him, so he took the initiative to get closer to me and give me some sweet treats, like holding hands, which made me overjoyed and put me back under his control.

Now it seems that Gu Heng is not as noble as he appears; on the contrary, he is quite insidious.

Huo Yushen, on the other hand, appeared very innocent and adorable.

"If you're not cold, then you're not cold," I said helplessly, looking at him.

He seemed to sense my emotional fluctuations, and his deep black eyes were filled with a faint confusion, like a big, wet puppy, both cute and pitiful.

"Huo Yushen, let's move a little further in." I stood on tiptoe and looked at the crowd in front of us. "This way we'll be closer to the monument tower, and the angle for watching the fireworks will be better."

"Slow down," he reminded me as I quickened my pace.

But there were just too many people in the central square.

We were almost separated by several small streams of people.

When I wasn't paying attention, Huo Yushen grabbed my wrist: "Come with me."

Even though I didn't touch your fingers, my heart was racing.

After one hour.

We climbed a nearby lighthouse, and from the top, we could overlook the entire central square and the seaside city.

"Wow!" I exclaimed. "This is a great location! How did you know about this place?"

"I discovered it by chance." Huo Yushen seemed unwilling to explain further.

The crowds below the tower create a sense of superiority, a feeling that can make one feel aloof.

"Huo Yushen, it's snowing!" I was surprised to find small white dots floating in the sky. Upon closer inspection, I realized they were snowflakes.

I instinctively reached out to catch it.

Huo Yu looked up late at night, his profile deep and refined: "Yes, it's snowing."

"I like snowy days and rainy days, what about you?" I tried to understand him.

He tilted his head slightly to look at me, the lights of the distant high-rise buildings reflecting on his face, making his profile even more defined, and his dark eyes were very gentle: "I like... the kind of weather you like."

I was stunned for a full minute.

"They're going to set off fireworks." He was calmer than me.

Before I could even react, huge and brilliant fireworks burst forth before my eyes, a riot of colors, a fleeting beauty, an ultimate splendor.

At this point, the audience had already started chanting a countdown.

"Ten, nine, eight, seven..."

"Huo Yushen..."

"Six, five, four, three..."

"I……"

"Two, one!"

"I like you!"

The enormous sound seemed to drown out my voice. Although I had the courage to speak, I was also afraid that Huo Yushen would reject me.

But I don't want to have any regrets.

He froze.

no respond.

Don't know what to think.

Fireworks are going off.

Everyone is wishing each other a Happy New Year.

And my heart seems to be breaking too.

Suddenly.

He lowered his head and placed a warm kiss on my lips.

I closed my eyes, and a little more force came from my waist.

After a few seconds.

He let go of me.

I opened my eyes, and our eyes met. I could hear my own excited heartbeat.

"Let's go, the fireworks are over." He held out his hand to me: "Girlfriend."

I looked at him happily and placed my hand in his cool palm: "Mmm!"

As we stepped out of the elevator at the lighthouse, we let go of each other's hands.

Because most of the people had already left.

We were also afraid of being seen by acquaintances.

We walked side by side down the road. Although there were no sweet words exchanged, a joyful feeling spread between us.

He walked me downstairs.

"Tomorrow is the first day of the lunar new year, I have to go back." His eyes were gentle.

"Okay." I nodded obediently. "Although we can't see each other often, I'll send you photos, and you will too."

"Okay." He suddenly raised his hand and gently touched my face, seemingly reluctant to let me go.

His actions made my nose tingle.

"Shen Yan, I'll be waiting for you at university." He bowed slightly. "Happy New Year, my little girl."

I felt his tenderness. "Ah Shen, Happy New Year. I hope you will always be happy."

His expression paused slightly, as if he couldn't believe he could be happy.

"With me here, I will make you happy." I smiled warmly.

At this moment, Huo Fei drove up to pick up Huo Yushen.

He parked his car on the side of the road and honked the horn once.

"Go ahead," I said, looking at him with reluctance.

"Sweetie, you go upstairs first." Huo Yushen explained, "I want to watch you go up."

There was nothing I could do but walk in, turning back every three steps.

Huo Yushen breathed a sigh of relief after I left.

He went straight to Huo Fei's car.

"You've been deceiving that girl's feelings again, haven't you?" Huo Fei teased.

Huo Yushen remained silent.

"You should settle down." Huo Yu's deep black eyes turned sharp and sinister: "I don't need you to remind me, has the investigation into the car accident been completed?"

“It was your stepmother who did it, but there’s no direct evidence. Relying solely on witness testimony makes it easy for her to find fault,” Huo Fei replied.

Huo Yushen said coldly, "I will not let her go."

"But you promised the old man, you must keep your promise, otherwise Shen Yan's life will be in danger," Huo Fei kindly reminded her.
