Chapter Twenty-Seven: Who is my father?

“He was in charge of taking care of my mother during this time,” Huo Yushen explained.

I looked at him awkwardly. "He told you everything?"

Huo Yushen looked at me with a smile: "I'm not angry. You can ask me directly if you have any questions in the future."

"Okay." I nodded in agreement, but I didn't know how to say it.

We both suddenly became very silent.

"Is your mother's leg any better?" Huo Yushen asked with concern.

“Much better.” I nodded. “She’s even started going to work in a wheelchair.”

“Your mother is a very strong-willed person.” Huo Yushen looked at me meaningfully. “She is also a good mother.”

I smiled and said, "Yes, Mom is one of the best people in the world."

Huo Yushen was somewhat puzzled.

“You are the best person in the world too,” I said with a smile.

He smiled faintly and said, "What kind of good person am I?"

“You’re such a good person.” I explained, “If it weren’t for you, my grades wouldn’t have improved so much. Don’t be modest.”

Huo Yushen's dark eyes were deep: "Just because I tutored you, does that make me a good person?"

I was taken aback. "Of course not, it's because of the feeling I get from you. My feeling tells me that you are a good person!"

These are my true feelings.

Huo Yushen gives me a great sense of security.

Huo Yushen suddenly raised his hand and placed it on my head. The warmth of his palm was transmitted to the top of my head, and then spread throughout my body, all the way to the soles of my feet.

"Shen Yan, remember, you can't judge a person by their appearance alone," Huo Yushen patiently advised. "Otherwise, you'll easily be deceived."

"But who can resist a good-looking person?" I muttered to myself.

He heard this and a helpless yet indulgent smile appeared on his lips: "Good-looking people aren't necessarily kind."

I looked at him, puzzled. "Huo Yushen, you're acting strange today."

For some reason, I sensed a deep and powerful sense of powerlessness in his words.

"You're too sensitive, little girl," Huo Yushen mocked me.

"You're making fun of me? Aren't you the same age as me?" I scoffed.

Huo Yushen's eyes were full of tenderness. "Alright, alright, I misspoke."

Looking at his gentle and refined expression, I realized I must have been mistaken.

How could Huo Yushen and Huo Yubai be the same person?

-

There is one day left until the New Year.

Although my mother still has difficulty moving around, she still goes to buy New Year's goods in a wheelchair.

I couldn't stop them, so I could only follow.

Luckily, Xia Zhe came to help, otherwise I really wouldn't know what to do.

Xia Zhe stood in front of my mother and cleared his throat: "President Han, have you forgotten that you asked me to come today? Shouldn't we be working? Why are you going out to shop?"

"I asked you to come here to do some shopping. I know you're not going home for Chinese New Year this year." My mother said with a smile, "Anyway, you're alone. We'll all celebrate the New Year together. Don't worry, my daughter doesn't mind."

Xia Zhe looked at me.

I gave him an awkward smile.

I don't mind, but it's really outrageous that my mom tricked them into coming here like that.

Xia Zhe frowned: "What's wrong with spending the New Year alone? The shopping mall doesn't care. There are so many entertainment options: eating, drinking, watching movies, and singing karaoke. I don't feel lonely."

“I just asked you to come over for the New Year, why are you asking so many questions? Do you still want to work for me next year?” My mom suddenly became very serious.

Xia Zhe: "..."

I'm speechless for Xia Zhe.

"Mr. Han, which shopping mall do you want to go to?" Xia Zhe gave in.

I carried my own bag, helped my mom carry hers, and followed them out the door.

Half an hour later.

We finally arrived at the mall.

My mom bought a lot of things and asked if they could deliver them to her door.

"Mom, didn't we buy too much?" I asked in surprise. "Even with Assistant Xia and Auntie, there are only four of us. What are you trying to do?"

“Who said there were four people? I also invited Huo Yushen. He’s spending the New Year alone too,” my mom said with a smile.

Does Huo Yushen spend the Chinese New Year alone?

He didn't tell me.

We meet and chat often, but he didn't tell me a single word!

"Isn't his uncle Huo Fei in Haicheng?" I asked in surprise.

"I heard he went abroad before the New Year, I wonder when he'll be back." My mother looked at me meaningfully: "I heard that Lao Shen invited him to his home for the New Year."

Old Shen.

"Also, didn't you know your father is already living with Secretary Liu?" my mother reminded me. "It will be very troublesome if Huo Yushen goes there for the New Year."

I was silent.

It turned out to be the case.

Huo Yushen didn't want others to know about his relationship with Huo Yubai as twin brothers. Liu Shengyan was Gu Heng's cousin, and if Liu Shengyan met Huo Yushen, she would definitely tell Gu Heng, and then things would get out of control.

"Mom, you did the right thing!" I gave her a thumbs up.

My mom smiled smugly.

"Then let's buy more! This one is good, Huo Yushen loves to eat this, and this one too!" I started to look forward to tomorrow.

They watched me walk away.

Xia Zhe said slowly, "Is it okay to lie to her like this?"

"As long as my daughter is happy." Han Li's eyes turned somewhat gloomy: "You need to make sure this is done flawlessly."

"Don't worry, Mr. Han." Xia Zhe nodded.

After we finished shopping, we went to pay.

Unexpectedly, I ran into Lao Shen and Secretary Liu.

Secretary Liu was settling the bill, while Old Shen stood to the side with his hands behind his back.

“Old Shen.” I walked over and said, “It really is true love. You never used to go shopping with my mom, but now you’re going to great lengths for your mistress.”

Today, everyone is out shopping for New Year's goods; there are many people around.

As soon as I said that, everyone turned to look at me.

Old Shen was speechless: "What nonsense are you talking about! I haven't seen you for a long time, what happened to you?"

"How so?" I looked at him with a smile: "She's definitely not as considerate as your illegitimate daughter. I hope she'll still be this kind to you when you're old."

Old Shen was furious, but he didn't dare to lay a hand on me.

I learned from Mu Xi that the project that Lao Shen was really looking forward to didn't have the expected return; on the contrary, he lost a lot of money.

A few days ago, Lao Shen sold several houses and cars to raise some money to keep the company running.

However, if there are no new projects or investments after the New Year, I'm afraid he will be powerless to help.

He's eyeing those two houses I own now, so he definitely won't dare to lay a hand on me.

"Have you been studying properly lately? Stop being so carefree!" Old Shen started poking at my sore spots.

But he didn't know that was all in the past.

At this moment, Secretary Liu finished paying the bill and returned pushing the shopping cart.

When she saw me, she looked a little unhappy: "Oh, it's Shen Yan. You haven't come to see your father in a long time."

"Who is my father?" I asked in surprise, then pointed at Old Shen: "You mean this old man who severed ties with me for money?"

Who does she think she is? Do you think I'd indulge her?
