Chapter Twenty-Four: You just want to be someone's sister-in-law!

“I consider him a friend,” I said speechlessly. “Don’t always think of relationships between men and women as that kind of thing. We can also be friends and family.”

"Relatives?" Mu Xi was completely confused: "It's not like you're going to marry someone from his family."

"No, that's not true." I explained, "He really helped Liu Shengyan a lot with that matter, so of course I want to thank him in every way I can."

Mu Xi still expressed disbelief.

I have no way.

Back in the exam room.

Gu Heng noticed that I seemed to be in a much better mood.

He frowned: "You went to see Huo Yubai?"

I ignored him.

Seeing Huo Yubai means that Huo Yushen should also be in Haicheng.

After the morning exams ended.

I went to the last exam room to find Huo Yubai.

He was obedient; he packed his schoolbag and sat down to wait.

"Let's go." I walked over. "Xixi is already at the school gate."

Huo Yubai stood up.

There were hardly any people in the examination room at that time.

"Shen Yan, it would be best if you kept your distance from me at school." His handsome brows furrowed deeply, revealing a hint of arrogance and unruliness.

“You’re not a monster,” I refused.

He sighed softly, thinking I couldn't hear him.

"Let's go," I urged.

He slung his backpack over his shoulder and followed me out of the exam room.

school entrance.

Mu Xi saw them: "Shen Yan, Huo Yubai, over here!"

When everyone heard her call Huo Yubai, they all stopped and looked back.

Huo Yubai cleared his throat, feeling somewhat uncomfortable.

At school, no one dared to speak to Huo Yubai, and Huo Yubai disdained to pay attention to those people.

He did have a good relationship with two boys in his class.

However, it seems they recently transferred schools.

So no one dared to talk to him in class anymore.

I'm wondering if the reason he hasn't been coming to class is because he doesn't have anyone he can talk to?

Regardless, Huo Yubai obediently came home with me.

I entered the house.

"There are disposable slippers in the shoe cabinet, please help yourselves. I'm going to the restroom first!" I put down my backpack and left.

Mu Xi was visiting for the first time. She opened the shoe cabinet, looking puzzled: "Why don't I see any disposable slippers?"

She simply couldn't find it.

"Yan..." she wanted to call out.

"It's over here." Huo Yubai opened the cabinet next to him.

"How did you know?!" Mu Xi exclaimed in surprise. "You were here?"

"I guessed." Huo Yubai took out two pairs of disposable slippers and handed one pair to Mu Xi.

"Thank you." Mu Xi looked Huo Yubai up and down.

Upon closer inspection, she discovered that Huo Yubai was not as eccentric, violent, or unpredictable as the rumors suggested.

On the contrary, she felt that the boy in front of her, who was the same age as her, had a kind of hidden madness and unfathomable depth.

That kind of unruly demeanor seemed more like an act.

It's camouflage.

The reason she had this idea was because her parents had taught her a lot about judging people and situations.

Huo Yubai changed into slippers and went to sit in the living room, as if he were at home.

Mu Xi followed.

The aunt came out of the kitchen: "Teacher Huo is here too."

Huo Yubai paused, then said, "I am not Huo Yushen."

The auntie exclaimed in surprise, "Oh, you're Teacher Huo's younger brother!"

Auntie knows.

Huo Yubai nodded.

"What Teacher Huo?" Mu Xi didn't understand.

By this time, I had already come out of the bathroom.

Mu Xi glanced at me, then at Huo Yubai, her brows furrowed.

"What's wrong?" I asked.

"It's nothing," Huo Yubai said. "I'm hungry."

"Then come and eat, don't be shy, make yourself at home." I gestured for Mu Xi to quickly put down her schoolbag.

Mu Xi rolled her eyes, put down her schoolbag, and went to the restaurant.

We sat down to eat with my aunt.

Seeing how much we enjoyed our meal, the auntie smiled warmly, looking very kind.

After dinner, the three of us sat in the living room.

For a moment, I didn't know what to say.

"Why don't we review the subjects we have for this afternoon's exam?" I said, taking out my books.

Huo Yubai and Mu Xi both agreed.

after awhile.

Huo Yubai got up and went to the bathroom.

Mu Xi grabbed my arm, her eyes questioning: "Who is Huo Yushen? What's the deal with Teacher Huo?"

I knew I couldn't hide this from her.

"I'm telling you, but you can't tell anyone," I warned.

"Don't you believe me?" Mu Xi exclaimed excitedly. "Tell me now!"

"Huo Yushen is Huo Yubai's twin brother. My recent rapid improvement in grades is all thanks to Huo Yushen," I explained.

Mu Xi exclaimed in surprise, "He actually has a twin brother! I had no idea!"

"Huo Yubai doesn't want anyone to know, so Huo Yushen has been telling me not to tell anyone," I replied.

"You can't keep this from me too!" Mu Xi punched me with her little fist. "I knew you had ulterior motives towards him. So you wanted to be his sister-in-law."

"What sister-in-law? Don't talk nonsense!" My face turned red instantly.

"I knew you were looking at him like he was a junior," Mu Xi teased again.

I couldn't stand it: "What do you mean 'junior'? We're peers!"

"See, you admit it now, you just want to be someone's sister-in-law!" Mu Xi said with a grin.

I was speechless. To punish her, I started tickling her.

"Ah!" Mu Xi giggled, "You just wanted to! Haha! It's so itchy!"

We joked around for a while.

It wasn't until Huo Yubai came out of the bathroom.

When the time came, the three of us went out together.

The next two days followed the same itinerary.

At noon, I invited Huo Yubai to my home for lunch.

After finishing her exams, Mu Xi went to the Maldives with her parents.

I heard that her parents celebrated their 20th wedding anniversary.

She went along to be a third wheel.

Mu Xi's parents' marriage is enviable.

After she left.

On the way back, only Huo Yubai and I remained.

After holding back for several days, I couldn't help but ask, "Huo Yubai, did Huo Yushen come back with you this time?"

Huo Yubai said calmly, "You want to see him?"

"No, it's not that. I know he's busy." I pursed my lips. "It's just that he hasn't been replying to my messages much these past couple of days."

Huo Yubai paused: "He is indeed very busy, after all, he is the older brother."

They will bear a lot of responsibility.

"So it really is something that happened to your family this time?" I didn't dare to ask Huo Yushen, but I considered Huo Yubai a friend, so I could ask him anything.

He nodded: "Why don't you ask him?"

“I…” I paused, “You don’t understand.”

"Then why are you asking me?" he frowned.

"I consider you a friend," I explained.

Perhaps, as Mu Xi said, in my heart, I never considered him an outsider.

He twitched the corner of his mouth slightly.

"Is it your mother who needs him to take care of her?" I asked.

He frowned slightly: "You know?"

“Last time you had an injury on your face, I asked him about it. Although he didn’t say it explicitly, I had a feeling that he had guessed something.” I explained, “And I learned from your homeroom teacher that your mother has always been in poor health.”
