Chapter 1: A Shocking Change on the Street!

Brain storage space (?˙ー˙?)

------------

In the sweltering summer, people walking on the city streets feel as if the air around them is distorted, listening to the weather forecast on the radio saying that the temperature will reach 53 degrees Celsius today.

"Damn it, this weather is unbearably hot!"

The complaints rang in her ears. Lin Xiyue turned around and saw a man walking beside her. After he said those words, he suddenly fell forward. People around him exclaimed and scattered. Some dialed 120, while others shouted loudly if anyone nearby knew first aid.

Seeing the chaotic scene before her, Lin Xiyue felt something was amiss. The words she heard had been spoken with such vigor and strength. How could someone with such a strong voice collapse to the ground the very next second? She stood carefully beside him, observing the person who had fallen.

"What is that?" she exclaimed.

There seemed to be something wriggling inside the trouser leg of the person who had fallen to the ground. Despite the noise around them, Lin Xiyue could still clearly hear the rustling sound.

The next second after her scream, a deep purple, glowing tentacle emerged from her trouser leg, seemingly unseen by the others. The tentacle probed its surroundings, as if sensing something, before lunging at the nearest person and swiftly coiling around their body, disappearing through the gaps in their clothing. The next second, the person convulsed, foaming at the mouth, and collapsed to the ground. Then, two more tentacles emerged from this person's body, repeating the process to the two closest individuals. And so, like a contagious disease, those around them collapsed one after another.

The moment Lin Xiyue saw the second person fall, she sensed something was wrong and quickly ran towards the edge of the crowd. Soon after, the panicked crowd scattered and fled.

Half an hour later, Lin Xiyue, hiding in an empty shop, saw countless unmanned helicopters open fire, spraying bullets at the tentacles in the middle of the road that were still searching for prey or absorbing the yin and yang energy from corpses. The weapons, some kind of weapon, emitted a ghostly purple light, instantly killing almost all of the tentacles. Only then did a broadcast begin.

"Dear residents, please rest assured that the new foreign objects that fled to the central area during the chaos have been cleared out. However, to avoid any remaining escapees, please stay inside the building, close the doors and windows, and wait for further instructions. You may leave approximately one hour later."

Upon hearing this broadcast, Lin Xiyue suddenly realized that this was no longer the Earth she used to live on, but a world that had entered the interstellar age but was full of crises.

An hour later, Lin Xiyue finally left the small shop and returned home, still feeling anxious and fearful.

She collapsed onto the sofa, reminiscing about everything she had experienced since coming into this world.

She transmigrated here about three months ago. The original owner of this body died suddenly after working overtime and suffering from malnutrition, so she transmigrated here.

Anyway, back on Earth, Lin Xiyue was already suffering terribly from chemotherapy due to cancer, and here she got a body for free. At first, she was quite happy, even knowing that she was also an orphan in this world and heavily in debt. But having a healthy body was still something to be happy about. She carefully asked for a day off to review the basic knowledge of this world.

Two centuries ago, a chaotic and devastating war decimated the population. Nations launched devastating weapons at each other, forcing the survivors to unite and form a new political system to barely survive this chilling self-inflicted crisis. Afterwards, scientists collaborated to develop technology, leading to tremendous advancements. Over the next 200 years, humanity gradually conquered the universe—perhaps? In any case, just when humanity thought it had conquered the universe, it discovered another life form, its intelligence uncertain. They rapidly multiplied by absorbing nutrients from carbon-based organisms, becoming a new threat to humanity.

Of course, humans have also achieved some evolution by extracting some of their genes, resulting in some super soldiers who can fight against them. This time, humanity has also entered an era of rapid improvement in individual combat power.

Of course, none of this had anything to do with Lin Xiyue, because she was just an orphan and had not awakened these powers; she was even worried about tomorrow's lunch.

"Sigh, why don't I have any kind of system or anything? Everyone else who transmigrates has all the standard equipment they're supposed to have." Lin Xiyue muttered to herself as she sighed and got up to cook herself a bowl of instant noodles.

"Knock knock knock, is anyone home?" A knocking sound suddenly rang out.

"Who's here?"

As Lin Xiyue wiped her hands as she came out of the kitchen, she asked loudly.

"Hello, Ms. Lin Xiyue. We are from the Investigation Bureau. Were you the first person to discover the alien species on Anna Street at 2:25 PM today?" The man at the door, wearing a dark green work uniform, showed his work ID to Lin Xiyue as he asked.

"Uh, actually, this is the first time I've seen it either. I just thought it was strange, so I called out."

"Don't be nervous. It's like this: the moment you can see something, you should have already awakened. It's just that you don't know what your ability is yet."

"Well, so what brings you here?"

"That's right, for late-stage awakeners like yourself, we have a set of relevant regulations..."
