Chapter 220: God fails to fulfill his wishes

The next day, Xiang He woke up early.

I ate some light white porridge last night and then fell asleep again; I'm really weak.

She woke up with a rumbling stomach, threw off the covers, put on her shoes, and got up. The door was pushed open, and when she looked up, she saw He Sui'an.

"I heard your stomach growling, so I figured you should be awake by now."

Xiang He glared at him, annoyed. "Who listens to other people's cries of hunger? Is there any food in the kitchen? You've been sleeping for too long and you look like you've lost a lot of weight. You need to eat something."

He Suian stepped forward and helped her out the door. The morning sun shone down, warming her whole body, and she finally felt real.

As soon as she stepped over the threshold, she felt her legs go weak and almost fell. Fortunately, He Suian caught her in time, put his arm around her waist, and led her to the table to sit down. Xing Ji came out of the kitchen with the food.

“The kitchen always has food prepared,” He Sui’an said, bringing mouthwash and a basin of water. “You’ve been sleeping for so long, it must have scared them.”

"You're acting like you're not scared at all. Haven't you been attending the morning court sessions lately?"

He Sui'an's face was gentle as he wrung out a handkerchief and handed it to her. "I have received the Emperor's permission, but I will have to go to the Ministry of Personnel every day."

"That's good. You've only been in office for a short time, and you're already being passive and uncooperative. That's bad for your reputation."

Seeing that she was still concerned about him at this moment, He Sui'an's eyes softened even more, "Your health is more important than politics."

She paused in wiping her face, pressed her fingers against her eyes a few times, and then put down the towel, revealing a bright and beautiful smile. "You're getting more and more straightforward these days."

"That's how it should be."

Their eyes met, and a deeper meaning, unspoken yet palpable, was revealed in their gazes.

After a long while, Xiang He withdrew her gaze, turned her head to look outside the door, and He Suian took the handkerchief from her hand. Xing Ji came over and took away the basin of water.

Smelling the aroma of the food, Xiang He reached out and brought over a bowl of white rice, listening to the footsteps gradually approaching from outside.

Soon after, Shen Zhuoci appeared, followed by Qin Fuhua and Yuan Qingqiu.

The three of them were delighted to see Xiang He sitting at the table and walked over to sit down around the square table.

"You're finally awake!"

Xiang He smiled at the three of them and said, "Greetings, Your Highness, Princess, and Miss Qin."

"Why are you being so polite now that you've woken up?" Shen Zhuoci picked up the chopsticks on the table without any hesitation. "Were you so unconscious that you lost your mind?"

Xiang He glanced up at him, then lowered her eyes and continued eating. "How can you talk to a patient like that?"

"Hey! It's still the same Miss Xiang."

Qin Fuhua patted his arm lightly, "What nonsense are you talking about?" Her gaze fell on Xiang He's face, "You look so thin, eat more."

"Yes, we will. Why are you here?"

Yuan Qingqiu took the bowl from Zhu Nan and placed it on the table. "Everyone was worried about you. You slept for more than ten days. They were afraid you would..."

Before she could finish speaking, Yuan Qingqiu picked up her chopsticks and put some meat on her plate. "It's good that you're awake. You agreed to Wulu's conditions that day and gave me my freedom. I will always remember this kindness. If you ever need my help, please don't hesitate to ask."

At this moment, Xing Ji spoke up, "Miss Qin sent over quite a few tonics."

Xiang He nodded slightly, "Since you've already given me a gift, then consider it a thank you. Don't worry about it."

"Of course not. Whatever your purpose, young lady, you did save me."

If Yuan Qingqiu had truly embarked on the path of a marriage alliance, she would likely have been depressed for the rest of her life.

Since she kept saying this, Xiang He stopped trying to persuade her. "So, did they send someone else, or did they not send anyone at all?"

"After the Grand Preceptor's defeat, the Grand Tutor and the Minister of Rites advised that now that the defeated enemy troops have been driven away, there is no need to send a princess for a marriage alliance."

Even though we have already won the war, why send the princess to another country for a political marriage? Isn't this just showing weakness and trying to curry favor with other countries?

No one knows what Wulu said that made the emperor agree so readily.

"That's good. Now, where is Wulu?"

He Sui'an sat down next to her and thoughtfully served her some food. "You and Xiaoyao are locked up in the imperial prison, heavily guarded. The emperor is also waiting for you to wake up so he can question the two of them."

Xiang He's open mouth froze for a moment, her eyes darkening with helplessness. "Really, you can't just keep taking advantage of me... The abbot of Ci'an Temple is quite capable, why don't you go to him?"

"The abbot met him once, but no matter how he asked him questions, Wulu remained as foolish as ever and wouldn't respond to anyone. Not to mention the officials, they didn't dare to approach him for fear of being tricked."

It's only natural that Wu Lu had the ability to make the emperor sick, so naturally he was afraid that Wu Lu might have other ways to do something.

The group remained silent. Shen Zhuoci ate while glancing around, and when he saw the large umbrella on the stool next to Xiang He, he casually picked it up.

"Well!"

His face turned deathly pale, and his hand holding the rice bowl went limp, causing the bowl to fall and spill onto the table.

Xiang He immediately took the large umbrella away, "What are you doing here..."

After chanting incantations and making a few strokes in front of his forehead, his complexion improved.

Shen Zhuoci gasped for breath, his chest heaving. Qin Fuhua reached out and held his wrist. "Brother Shen, what's wrong?"

Xiang He silently put the large umbrella back in its place and continued eating. "Ordinary people shouldn't touch this umbrella."

Shen Zhuoci was still panting heavily, and it took him a while to catch his breath. His face was not yet rosy, and he felt weak all over, with a somewhat unfocused gaze.

"But... but I've taken it before..."

Xiang He glared at him, annoyed. "That was when I wasn't there. Don't touch it again."

Shen Zhuoci nodded repeatedly at these words, "I just saw that Xiaoyao kept mentioning wanting an umbrella, and I wanted to see if there was any hidden meaning behind it..."

Xiang He silently pulled the stool with the umbrella further away. "The Yin-Yang Umbrella can nourish Yin and store Yang. There are also four ghosts inside. If you touch it, you will only transfer your Yang energy to them."

Shen Zhuoci's eyes widened. "So amazing..."

Xiang He ignored him and ate her rice in big mouthfuls. She finished the whole bowl in no time, patted her stomach and felt that she was almost full, so she didn't ask for more rice.

"Have a bowl of soup, Xinyue made it last night."

“Alright,” Xiang He pushed the rice bowl on the table away a little, “Where is Ye Shuyao’s soul? Has it come here? Or is it still in the Ye residence?”

“She comes occasionally; she can’t return to her own body, and she comes to see you every night.”

It turns out that not only humans, but even ghosts were hoping for her to wake up.

"Wait a couple of days. I can barely walk right now, and I don't want to bother."

She was in low spirits; she felt exhausted after calming Shen Zhuoci down and really didn't want to deal with these things anymore.

He Sui'an, who was blowing hot air on her soup, looked at her with a hint of heartache in her eyes. She gently stirred the soup with a spoon and said, "No rush, she needs to rest for a while."

"Did you not tell your parents about my coma?"

She didn't want the Su family to worry, lest they return home not long ago and then have to rush back to the capital again. This round trip would be too tiring, and they wouldn't be able to do any business.

"Don't worry, only we know about this, and we won't talk about it in the future."

"That's good."

Xiang He took the stew and tasted it; the rich flavor was indeed sweet.

Everyone ate in silence when a white ball of fur jumped in from the vegetable garden outside, bouncing and landing on Qin Fuhua's lap, where Qin Fuhua stroked its fur.

"She's become a relative now."

A tender glint appeared in Qin Fuhua's eyes. "He wouldn't let me touch him before, but now he's more willing to get close."
