Chapter 587 Monster Siege
Sofia looked away.
The sheer number of caves and stalagmites here proves that there are quite a few monsters in this area.
She didn't know why the monsters hadn't come out. Were they resting? Or was it due to environmental factors? But the best course of action was to leave quickly before the monsters made a move.
"Let's go." Sofia put down her gun and said to Sun Lili, "Let's get out of here quickly."
Sofia jumped down from the rock pillar, and Sun Lili slowly floated down as well.
The two people moved quickly across the ground.
Fearing they might awaken the monsters and be attacked by them, Sophia and her companions chose a route that kept them away from the numerous stalagmites. Furthermore, their movement was virtually noiseless.
In just a few minutes, they ran several kilometers—and that was only because of poor visibility and their silence.
However, the surrounding underground stalagmite structures remained unchanged, as if they had entered an endless maze copied and pasted from another source.
The further Sophia went, the more alarmed she became. She had already seen dozens of stalagmites along the way, and based on the current density and the length of the cave's cross-section she had just observed, this section of the cave probably contained 400 stalagmites. She didn't know how many more lay ahead.
The entrances and exits of the stalagmites are all in parallel rows, which is consistent with the style of a den of gregarious monsters.
Thousands, or even tens of thousands, of monsters?
If what she thinks is true, even if these monsters are all of the Iron level, they have no way to fight them head-on.
Sophia prayed silently: "I hope I don't alert the monsters here."
But often, the more you pray, the more likely it is to happen.
Like someone suddenly turning on a silent speaker, a rustling sound came from inside the cave. It was the sound of chitinous carapaces rubbing against each other.
Sophia glanced around and saw numerous small red dots appearing in the surrounding stalagmite caves. With the vision provided by her magic eye, Sophia was able to capture the bodies of those monsters.
This is a monster covered in smooth, obsidian-like armor. The surface of this armor is like a mirror, reflecting the light in the eyes of its companions.
They quickly crawled out from inside the stalagmite, each one about half a person's height, resembling a kind of jumping bead. The foremost chelicerae had transformed into the shape of a human hand, grasping the hair hanging down from its head. Their faces were like sharks, and some of the monsters opened their mouths, their teeth even able to extend forward out of their mouths.
They looked terrible, but Sophia could tell that these weren't cursed corpses, but some kind of demonic creature, and their strength was roughly at the Black Iron level.
However, the number far exceeded Sophia's expectations; at least 20 or more demonic spiders emerged from each stalagmite, and they were still continuously appearing.
At the same time, there are some even larger stalagmites, from which some silver-level individuals emerge. The ratio of silver-level individuals to iron-level individuals is roughly 1:20.
These monsters had discovered Sophia and her companions, or rather, they had known them for a long time. They simply sensed the power spreading from the sand and were too afraid to come out.
When the power within the sand dissipated, they could no longer suppress their greed and emerged to hunt down the intruders to their lair.
The flesh and blood of these invaders are far more nutritious than the monsters they painstakingly cultivated!
Accompanied by the hissing sound of the spiders rubbing their chelicerae, countless spiders swarmed towards Sophia and her companions from all directions like a tide.
“Pick me up and fly away,” Sophia shouted to Sun Lili.
Sun Lili put one arm around Sophia's waist and lifted her into the air. Then she fixed the space beneath her feet, forming a hardened platform.
Sofia stood on the platform and fired a grenade into the air.
The grenade exploded in the air, forming a ball of light that emitted countless rays of light, illuminating the dark cave.
Now that it has been discovered, there is no need to continue trying to cover it up in the dark.
These spiders are cave creatures and might be afraid of light. Maintaining darkness would actually be disadvantageous for Sophia.
Switching to enchanted bullets, Sophia pulled the trigger at the ceiling, and several grenades bombarded the ceiling. The special effect of the lion's roar instantly created an elemental terrain in the sky.
This time, Sophia chose a fire-elemental terrain. Chunks of lava adhered to the ceiling, forming an isolation circle. The liquefied lava slowly dripped from the sky, forming a thick rain of fire.
Meanwhile, the spiders that had climbed onto the ceiling, intending to ambush Sophia and the others, hesitated to advance beyond the lava circle, fearing the lava terrain.
Sofia continued bombarding the ground, leaving behind a large area of lava.
Seeing the spiders around them that dared not approach, Sun Lili asked Sophia, "What should we do?"
Sophia calmly said, "These guys aren't cursed corpses, they're monsters, and they have brains. Although we don't know how they resist the curse. Let's try to scare them first, preferably by killing the leader or something to intimidate them. Who knows how big this place is? If we run around like headless flies and get lost, we'll only waste our magic energy."
"We'll rely on my elemental creations for positional warfare, which will consume less resources. Be prepared to teleport long distances at any time. If anything goes wrong, we'll immediately switch from positional warfare to guerrilla warfare."
