Train Survival: You're really trying to survive!
Chapter 53 Attack in the Fog
The young Russian boy, Ivan, naturally wouldn't pick up on the joke and say, "Sir, there must be something fishy about this."
Ivan considered for a moment and said, "It's possible that those people accidentally summoned a monster and caused the world to perish."
All the fragments of the world were captured and reshaped by the system using its immense power after the world's destruction. The fact that this city can be used as a game setting indicates that this world must have already been destroyed.
Sofia continued, "If it were just a pack of wolves, it wouldn't be a problem. But the energy level here is 0.8, so I think it might be more than just a pack of wolves."
“That’s what I think too.” Su Li nodded. “The prophecy of hell at the end of the century and the ritual to summon hell in the city center are two possible clues. But this clue came too coincidentally. Let’s wait until we meet more survivors.”
Su Li and the others locked the door. Once the train is locked, it is protected by the system and cannot be opened unless the train is forcibly damaged or the train conductor is killed.
After getting everything sorted out, Su Li and the other two headed towards the subway exit.
Upon stepping outside, I saw a thick fog covering the area, with visibility less than 5 meters in the white expanse.
Su Li looked around and found a newsstand near the subway station entrance. "I knew it! There were so many newsstands back then, before the internet was so widespread!"
The three arrived at the newsstand, which was already closed. Through the window, they could see that there were many books and magazines inside.
Su Li broke the glass of the newsstand with the hilt of her sword and went inside to search.
When he came out, he was holding three local maps and several newspapers.
Hand a copy of the map to Ivan and Sofia, and let Ivan study it and plan his route.
Zuli then opened the newspaper.
The headline in the [Norfforest Daily] is: "Young people are about to hold a cross-century hell party in the city center square."
Subheading: [Many citizens expressed dissatisfaction with this behavior]
[The mystery of the end of the century? No! A shopping spree for the end of the century!]
I flipped through the pages again, and there were quite a few reports about the end of the century. It was clear that nobody took it seriously; most people were just using this opportunity to have some fun.
Su Li flipped through the pages and came across the entertainment section.
Perhaps it's the end of the century, but some movies have seized on this trend and created some sensational films.
"999," "Fusion Titan," and "The Insectoids" are currently showing in theaters.
Su Li shook her head, then saw an announcement.
A chemical plant in our city experienced a mixed acid leak. Those responsible have been held accountable, and the perpetrator is currently at large.
"Mixed acid...is that an acid mixture of multiple acids? It could contain sulfuric acid and nitric acid." Su Li carefully read the news and memorized the factory's name.
Setting down the newspaper, Zuli asked Ivan, "How did it go?"
“Brother Su, this is a city called Norfolk.” Ivan handed over the map.
Su Li opened the map, on which a red line was drawn. "If we take this road, we'll come across a police station where we can look for weapons. There's also a shopping mall and a bank along the way."
Zuli handed the map back to Ivan. "Okay. Also, look for the XX chemical plant; they have mixed acid there. Which way do we go now?"
"Just follow this road. You'll pass a university along the way. After crossing the university, turn left and walk a short distance to reach the police station."
The three maintained their formation, discerning their surroundings, and groped their way forward through the thick fog.
Walking in thick fog, especially fog where you know there might be monsters, is truly agonizing. Especially when the fog seems alive, constantly churning and rolling. Each movement feels like an animal moving within the fog.
It's incredibly depressing.
Sofia focused her attention and walked in the middle. Of the three, her senses were the most acute, so she acted as a scout.
Suddenly, Sofia stopped in her tracks. "Be on guard, something's coming."
Ivan stepped back, shielding Sofia behind him.
Su Li stepped forward with her sword, observing her surroundings. The fog churned even faster, and she could see some monsters.
"No matter what happens, don't run around," Su Li instructed. "Retreat to the side, stay close to the wall, and reduce your contact with the enemy."
The three quickly moved closer to the wall, waiting patiently for the enemy to make their move.
Time ticked by, and suddenly, Sofia drew her bow and shot an arrow into the mist.
"Ouch, ouch, ouch~"
The sound of dogs howling came from inside. It seems the shot hit.
Once their deception was discovered, the dogs seemed to become ferocious, howling as they pounced out of the mist—six gray wolves, each about half a person's height.
"An old friend!"
Su Li brandished the Storm Crystal Sword in her hand, the greatsword whistling through the air as it danced around her body, creating an impenetrable defense while simultaneously protecting everyone behind her. This was a defensive sword technique, using a dense sword dance to force enemies to stay away.
Then, Sofia drew her bow and shot an arrow. The arrow struck one of the wolves in the lung.
Surprisingly, the wolf was unharmed. "This is strange. At this depth, it should have already started vomiting blood and suffocating!" Sophia exclaimed.
Su Li's eyes narrowed. Attacking the weakness was ineffective? Then she'd have to dismember him.
So Su Li abandoned her original strategy of having Sophia snipe instead of using her guard swordsmanship, and instead strode forward to meet an oncoming gray wolf.
With a light touch, the crystal sword in his hand touched the wolf's claws, then he brushed aside the wolf's paws, spun the sword in an arc in his hand, and slashed fiercely at the wolf's neck.
This sword strike directly beheaded the wolf.
With another swift movement, he disemboweled a wolf. He was no longer the same person he was two weeks ago. With the combined aid of the secret food and magical energy, he was nearing becoming a Black Iron-level warrior, making dealing with ordinary wolves a piece of cake.
The conservative approach we took just now was because we were afraid the enemy wasn't just these wolves.
The sound of wind reached her ears, but Su Li ignored it. Then, an arrow pierced the wolf's eye with precision, sending the wolf flying.
Then, Su Li felt a layer of solid magical energy appear on her body; this was Ivan's magical energy shield.
One, two, three, four, a total of 10 wolves were killed by Su Li.
The remaining wolves howled and retreated.
Sophia stared intently at the swirling mist. "The wolves haven't left."
"Yes, I know." Su Li stared into the mist. He didn't hear the wolf's howl, but he felt a strange, pricking sensation, like needles pricking him. "Is this the perception of killing intent? Am I evolving into Killing Intent Su?"
Su Li deliberately made a joke, feigning relaxation. Then, the next second, a huge monster, at least 2 meters tall, pounced at an incredibly fast speed.
Su Li stepped back and attacked from the side, heading straight for the shadowy figure's chest and abdomen.
Ivan stepped forward, taking Sully's place, and successfully blocked the monster's attack with his shield.
The monster gripped Ivan's shield with its claws, opened its mouth, and bit down hard on Ivan's head.
"Hah!" Ivan swung his shield, unleashing magical energy. A recoil force slammed into the monster's head. This wasn't a skill, but a basic shield-using technique for guardians.
Su Li also extracted the magic energy from her body, attached it to her sword, and unleashed a downward magic energy slash at the monster.
The blue-glowing slash ripped open the monster's flesh. A layer of red blood energy suddenly appeared on the monster's body, and then the monster roared abruptly.
"Ow~"
Su Li felt a sudden, inexplicable panic and couldn't help but take a few steps back, wanting to turn and run away. Looking at Ivan, his face was also filled with fear, and his legs were trembling.
With a "whoosh!" a streak of blue light struck the monster that was about to bite. The magic-powered arrow entered the monster's mouth and exited from its head.
Su Li's inexplicable fear vanished, and he quickly stepped forward, severing the monster's head with a single sword stroke.
He took a breath and looked back. Sophia was kneeling on one knee and winking at him.
"So cool!" Su Li gave a thumbs up.
