Train Survival: You're really trying to survive!
Chapter 432 The Fleet of the Holy City
Following the reef's directions, the train headed towards the island where they lived.
After traveling for a while, Su Li and his group encountered another group of swordfish.
Upon seeing the swordfish, Reef looked puzzled. "There shouldn't be any stabfish here! Why?!"
After much thought, the reef could only attribute it to a chain reaction triggered by the recent unusual island sinking incident.
Su Li felt that this guess was almost certainly correct.
"But encountering a swordfish is a perfect opportunity to test out my new creation!"
Su Li watched as the mutated swordfish gradually surrounded them, and she began to rub her hands together in anticipation.
The train now has several more boxes on the roof than before. The train carriages originally had some openings for securing items, but Su Li never used them.
Su Li took out a mechanical device that looked like a walkie-talkie and pressed the button on it.
This is a simple signal activation device. Once activated, the signal is transmitted to the boxes on the roof of the vehicle.
The signal inside the box triggered an electric current, which sparked the gunpowder filling the box.
The gunpowder was ignited, propelling the internal props outwards.
Several black boxes were ejected and landed in the ocean not far away. Then, the elemental mechanism set up inside Zuli sensed the disappearance of the corresponding runes in the launch boxes and activated.
The wind-attribute crystal fragments activated, blasting the small box open. A large amount of air was generated inside. This air pushed the items inside the box apart.
Several small boats, each about 10 meters long, suddenly appeared on the sea.
Su Li looked around at the mutated swordfish with some anticipation. As expected, the swordfish were attracted by the small boat. After comparing the strange-looking train with the familiar ship, the swordfish turned their heads one by one and rushed towards the small boat.
"Good!" Su Li clenched her fist. "The swordfish bait was a success!"
Several swordfish pierced the bait boat, whose hull was very fragile and shattered instantly upon being pierced.
Taking advantage of the opportunity, Su Li shouted to Ivan, who had come upstairs, "Fire!"
A lava projectile was fired, colliding with the swordfish gathered near the small boat, producing a large amount of water vapor.
Song Mingyu, who was monitoring the vital signs, promptly reported the information: "The swordfish's vital signs have disappeared!"
Zuli raised an eyebrow at Sofia with obvious delight. Sofia clapped her hands, providing emotional support.
The decoy operation was a great success, and the train stopped to collect the spoils. They continued their journey, fighting their way forward, until finally, just before dawn, they approached the island the reef had described.
"It's just ahead." Reef's face was filled with anticipation and hesitation. Of all the people who went out, he was the only one who returned alive. He even had the urge to just leave the island altogether.
Song Mingyu suddenly interjected, "Su Li, I sensed a scanning force coming from ahead, seemingly locking onto some kind of life force. Technically, it's similar to a life-sensing spell."
"Ahead?" Su Li squinted. Under the purple moonlight, all colors began to distort, limiting his vision.
However, there are few obstructions on the sea, and if you have good eyesight, the field of vision is very wide. During World War II, the Japanese even used rare foods such as fish oil to nourish lookouts with exceptional eyesight.
It sounds ridiculous, but due to the limitations of radar technology and operation, a good lookout was even more effective than the shipborne radar at the time. Of course, this uniquely Japanese lookout system was eventually phased out. Japan was forced to use radar, which was criticized as a 'cowardly defensive weapon'.
Though the reef was invisible, Su Li, with his exceptional eyesight, clearly saw five large ships in the far distance under the purple moonlight. Su Li estimated that the largest of these ships was about 400 meters long and 40 meters wide, even larger than an aircraft carrier.
These ships are currently docked on the target island in Zurich.
"Reef, how big is your ship?" Su Li suddenly asked.
The reef reported a number followed by an unfamiliar unit. Fortunately, Sun Lili had familiarized herself with the local unit of measurement when checking the nautical charts earlier. Su Li mentally converted it: "A 40-meter-long wooden sailboat. In this world, such a ship would be considered a behemoth."
Su Li nodded, then asked, "Have you ever seen a ship that's 400 meters long?"
Jiao didn't even think twice: "The Holy City's evangelistic fleet has such a large ship!"
“It seems we’ve encountered that evangelistic fleet.” Zuli turned to Ivan and said, “There are five large ships, each a hundred meters long, ahead. Control your speed and get ready.”
Preparation, naturally, means preparing to overturn the table and fight the other side.
The train approached the ship, and the ship on the sea naturally spotted Zuli and his group.
However, as they drew closer, Sofia, with her best eyesight and acting as the lookout, suddenly released a mental link and said, "Something's wrong. These ships are slaughtering the island's inhabitants and looting supplies. I saw them cleaning up the corpses!"
Su Li's expression darkened, and he asked Jiao, "Jiao, how do the ships of Holy City treat you people?"
Jiao was puzzled by the question, but still answered, "They look down on us and don't take us seriously. It feels like they live in a different world from us."
"Would they attack you on their own initiative?"
“Most of the time they won’t. They look at us like we’re small fish on the side of the road. Occasionally they’ll have a moment of madness and attack us, but most of the time they just ignore us. There are many unique technologies in Holy City, and they don’t even care about our little bit of resources.”
Su Li's lips twitched. "It seems something's happened in Holy City too, otherwise these people wouldn't be collecting things they don't even want."
After Jiao finished answering, he thought for a few seconds and suddenly realized why Su Li would ask that question.
"Mr. Su, have you discovered something?" Jiao asked, his voice trembling slightly.
“…Sigh.” Su Li patted the reef’s head.
