Chapter 365 Entering the Library
So, this is the truth behind the evolution of superpowers in this zombie apocalypse.
In the end, all that's left is a virus that looks like a human.
By then, the mastermind behind the virus will likely be reaping the rewards.
Su Li frowned. "The waters run deep. And the mastermind behind it all probably won in the end. This civilization was completely destroyed."
“What’s worse is that we could very well encounter such a major event on the sixth or seventh day,” Sofia sighed. “Isn’t this clearly a fragment of a world event that’s destined to be a major one?”
“That’s the troublesome part.” Su Li scratched the back of his head in frustration. “With such a large ranch, what kind of monsters can it possibly raise? I’d even think it’s possible to raise a gold-level monster. We need to find a way to make this plan fail, or at least delay it for a few days.”
“There’s a simple way,” Song Mingyu said. “I can develop an effective vaccine and vaccinate the powerful superhumans. Or we can wipe out a large number of zombies.”
“But the root of their superpowers is the symbiotic virus within their bodies. Vaccinating them means taking away their superpowers,” Ivan analyzed. “I’m afraid they won’t agree to that.”
“Let’s take it one step at a time,” Su Li sighed. “We’ll figure something out when we get back. Let’s finish the exploration mission first.”
After the discussion ended, Su Li and his group began looting the spoils of war.
The group had quite a few weapons and firearms, but none of them could compare to the equipment Su Li had brought with him. Su Li rummaged through them and put them aside, planning to take them back later if he had time, otherwise he would just leave them be.
Next, they collected a lot of zombie crystals on the ground and put them into their inventory.
After walking in the predetermined direction for a while, as they moved further away from Zhao Zheng's stronghold, the condition of the surrounding cars improved, and everyone began to check the condition of their vehicles.
A moment later, Ivan called out from a short distance away, "There's a car over there that looks pretty good!"
Upon hearing this, everyone immediately gathered around. It was a white SUV, more than six months old, covered in black bloodstains and mud. Although the exterior had some scratches, the interior was generally intact. Su Li opened the car door and checked the interior, finding the key still in the ignition, clearly abandoned hastily when the apocalypse struck.
"Let's see if it can start. But I don't think it will work," Su Li said.
They left the keys, so the engine was probably still running.
Ivan got into the driver's seat, turned the key, and the engine emitted a low roar, but it didn't start. However, the battery still had power.
"The car's in pretty good condition. Add some gas, and it should still run." Ivan grinned and patted the steering wheel.
Su Li walked to the mailbox; the car's mailbox had been pried open, and the lid wasn't even closed.
Su Li took a can of gasoline from his inventory and began filling the tank. He had expected this, so he had brought some gasoline with him.
There was another rumbling sound, and then the SUV started successfully. The only problem was the sound.
Su Li sat in the passenger seat and turned on the car's navigation system. It seemed that the satellites in this world were gone, and the navigation system had entered offline mode.
Su Li peeked out and looked around, spotting a bank. After the screen lit up, he quickly entered several keywords, including "food city," "bank," and "company name," successfully locating his current position.
He then began searching the map for nearby locations of interest. Soon, Zuli discovered that the navigation indicated a library was nearby, about 4 kilometers from their location.
“The library…” Su Li’s face lit up with joy. Libraries usually store a large number of books and materials, which might be more valuable than supplies in the apocalypse. The library could provide them with information about the Crystal Stone and also give them paper maps. He looked up at the others and said decisively, “Let’s go to the library and see if we can find anything useful.”
Everyone agreed and quickly got into the car. Ivan drove the SUV slowly along the deserted streets. The scenery outside the car window remained desolate; the city shrouded in white fog resembled a dead city, with only the occasional low growls of zombies reminding them that danger still lurked everywhere.
The journey was far from peaceful, as zombies were often drawn by the SUV's groans and charged towards Su Li and his companions.
Zurich could only travel slowly, stopping occasionally to greet these hospitable locals.
About ten minutes later, they arrived at the library. It was an old building with vines climbing its exterior walls and the door half-open, as if waiting for someone to arrive.
There was a lot of blood and roadblocks at the entrance.
Su Li got out of the car first, gripped the greatsword in her hand, and scanned her surroundings warily.
"It has that zombie game vibe, like the haunted mansion from Resident Evil. Be careful, there might be zombies lurking here," he whispered a warning. He couldn't help but joke, "Hopefully there aren't too many puzzle-solving elements inside."
When Capcom was a child, he had to play a game at the east and west ends of the police station to get two gems and put them in the mouth of a stone sculpture in the lobby before he could enter the police station lobby.
The team members got out of the car and followed Su Li carefully into the library entrance.
The library is only four stories high, meaning that when the white fog rises during the day, the library remains hidden beneath it. To survivors, this is hardly a good base; it's highly likely there's no one there.
Ivan went up and tried to push the door, but it didn't budge.
He looked around and saw that some of the windows were sealed off with wooden panels, while others were broken and covered in blood.
Ivan walked to a window and climbed inside.
A moment later, the inner door was opened.
As Su Li and the others entered the library, Ivan was taking the table and chairs blocking the door out of his inventory and putting them aside.
Inside the gate was a dimly lit hall, with bookshelves overturned and books scattered all over the floor, and the air filled with a musty and rotten smell.
Su Li's gaze swept across the hall, taking in the books on the first floor, mostly magazines and various novels, self-help books—generally speaking, they were more entertainment-oriented.
Suddenly, his ears twitched slightly as he heard a faint sound. He raised his hand to signal everyone to stop, his gaze fixed on the back of a bookshelf not far away.
"Something's there." He had already slightly raised his greatsword, ready to meet the attack at any moment.
Just then, a small, thin zombie leaped out from behind the bookshelf, baring its fangs and claws as it charged at them. With a swift swing of his greatsword, Su Li decapitated the zombie, its body collapsing limply to the ground.
"Judging from their clothes, they seem to be staff members." Sophia stepped forward, flipped over the zombie's corpse, and took a tag from its neck. "This looks like an electronic card."
"Take it. We need to access the library's electronic archives, and we might need an electronic card."
