Huh? There's a magic school here.
Chapter 85 Shocking News (Part 1)
In any case, the young wizards had studied for almost a whole year, plus the ability boosts provided by Hogwarts Castle itself.
It's not so hard to understand why the students had to meet the upgrade requirements, and over the next two weeks, the remaining young wizards gradually advanced.
On a weekend at the end of March, Professors Andres and McGonagall convened a meeting of the two student council presidents and the presiding officers from the four colleges. They had discussed the matter, as there were too many new students enrolling the following semester, and almost every one required a home visit, not to mention the international exchange students.
So the two of them whispered and discussed for a long time, and decided to involve the student council presidents and prefects. Since recruiting them was originally intended to supplement the student body, it would be good to give them some work now. So Andres had Dobby inform them, which led to today's meeting.
The meeting was held in a meeting room on the fifth floor. The interior space of Hogwarts Castle had also increased significantly after the upgrade. The most obvious change was the increase in the number of rooms on each floor, ranging in size from small to large. Compared to the somewhat monotonous classrooms and rooms before the upgrade, there were now many rooms with unusual functions.
For example, in this meeting room, Andres discovered that it only appears at specific times each day and disappears after that time.
Darius Pick came with Kalema Molina; they were both Gryffindor lion cubs and roommates, and they got along very well.
"Daris, are you sure this is where the meeting is going to be held?"
"Yes, this is the place Dobby mentioned when he told me!"
"But there's nothing here. To the left is a storage room, and to the right it looks like an alchemy lab!"
"Could it be that Dobby made a mistake in his notification, or is he simply messing with us?"
Just as the two were wondering what was going on, Diane Brian arrived with two Ravenclaw prefects, Melissa Carlson and Ricardo Geese.
"Daris, you're here so early?"
"Diane, we just arrived too. But we can't find the meeting room!"
The three Ravenclaws looked at them with utter bewilderment, their expressions saying, "Are you kidding me?!"
“Darris, this joke isn’t funny at all. The conference room is right behind you!”
Huh? Darius and Calema turned around and were surprised to find that a simple wooden door had appeared on the previously empty stone wall.
Diane ignored the two people standing there dumbfounded and walked over to turn the doorknob!
The room was bathed in a warm, yellow light emanating from the chandelier, its glow complementing the gold trim of the portrait painting on the wall. The crackling wood in the fireplace and the quiet growth of several deep green plants, their leaves appearing particularly lush under the light, brought a touch of life to the otherwise somber atmosphere.
Then everyone went into the conference room and started chatting.
“Diane, I swear! When Calema and I arrived, there was absolutely no such meeting room! We thought Dobby had given us the wrong address!”
"Come to think of it, Melissa and I have never seen this room when we pass by. Could it be something like the Room of Requirement?"
"It might be, the mechanism is probably similar. It requires a trigger condition!"
Just as they were discussing this, Joanna walked in, arm in arm with Bernhard Wiggins.
"Hi everyone, what are you guys discussing? It sounds really interesting!"
"We were discussing this meeting room, and you guys went out for a stroll?"
"Yeah, I dragged Benhard up the mountain!"
In the following minutes, Hufflepuff's Prefect Charlotte Dempsey, Slytherin's Prefect Halken Miller, and Slytherin's Prefect Alinour Morrison also arrived. Besides discussing the meeting room, they also discussed why they had been summoned today; it's worth noting that Andres rarely called them together in meetings, usually just issuing a notification.
Just then, the conference room door opened gently, letting in a faint ray of light. Andres and Professor McGonagall had arrived. Everyone in the conference room stood up to greet Andres and Professor McGonagall.
"Hello, Principal! Hello, Professor!"
Andres responded to everyone with a smile.
"Hello everyone, please sit down! Please sit down!"
Everyone then sat down and waited for Andres to speak.
"I've called you all here today to discuss a few things about next semester. Professor McGonagall and I have discussed it, and we both agree that we should inform you to prepare."
All ten students wore curious expressions. Next semester? Next semester is still a long way off! Next semester will just mean new courses, what else could it be? They guessed some things correctly, but not all of them.
"First of all, the school plans to offer new courses next semester. You've probably all guessed this! We can let you know in advance so you can be mentally prepared. This means your studies next semester may be even more demanding!"
"Secondly, we have big plans for next semester! The school intends to expand its enrollment next semester in order to broaden Hogwarts' influence. We plan to recruit international students to study at Hogwarts. That means there will be many international students living and studying at Hogwarts."
The students didn't react much to the news of the added courses. After all, it was expected. But the second piece of information shocked them. It was certain that new students would be admitted next semester, but what about foreign students? Although they had read the Harry Potter novels and knew that Hogwarts had students of different races, those were all British!
Darius, who reacted the fastest, raised his hand, indicating that there was a problem! Andres nodded to him.
"Principal Andres, does 'admitting foreign students' mean non-British students?"
"Yes, Darius!"
"So, can we find out how many students the school plans to enroll next semester? How many of them will be international students?"
"We expect to have 800 students next semester!"
Hearing this answer, everyone was shocked again. So many people? Keep in mind that there were only 68 students in their year. Subtracting these, 732 more would be added next semester. That means the ratio of new to returning students exceeded one to ten.
"This? Principal Andres, isn't there a lot of new students admitted this time? Won't it affect the teaching?"
“Your concerns are valid, but the school will be prepared. Oh, I forgot to mention, we plan to enroll three hundred international students.”
The students fell silent again. They found Principal Andres's idea of recruiting so many people, half of whom were foreigners, incredible, but they had no right to refuse and could only accept it.
Then Darius raised another question, which caught the students' attention!
"Professor, may we know which country's students you plan to recruit?"
"I plan to recruit people from the other four of the five major powers. I will recruit one hundred people each from China and the United States, and fifty people each from France and Russia."
