Huh? There's a magic school here.
Chapter 65 The Cold February
The night in the Forbidden Forest was bitterly cold, and the prefects on patrol were breathing out white steam. Seeing Joanna shivering from the cold, Bernhard took off his wizard's robe and draped it over her shoulders.
“Thank you, darling. Let’s go warm ourselves by the fire over there.” Joanna pointed to a brazier in the distance for lighting.
"Great! You danced wonderfully tonight. I didn't even know you could dance!" Bernhard gave his girlfriend a small compliment.
"There are many things you don't know, but I had a lot of fun tonight. I wish it could always be like this."
“Yes, it’s a pity we can only stay here for three years. By the way, have you thought about what you’ll do after graduation?” This was the first time Bernhard had discussed the future with his girlfriend.
"Graduation? I haven't thought about it yet. But I think Principal Andres must have some plans. He talked to us before and hoped that we would stay and help. Otherwise, he wouldn't have gone to so much trouble to train us."
"Yes, I can feel how much Professor Flitwick wants to teach us more, afraid that we won't be able to learn it all. What about you?"
"It's the same on my end. Professor McGonagall is very strict in her teaching. But that's a good thing for us, since we don't have much time."
"That's pretty much how this half-semester is going to be. I wonder what changes will happen next semester after Christmas."
And so, time passed quickly in the lovers' casual conversation. The sky over the forbidden forest began to lighten, while the moon inside the tent still hung high in the sky, seemingly tireless.
One day in December, heavy snow began to fall in the Scottish Highlands.
The young wizards woke up to find the world outside had changed completely. Playing in the snow became the new source of joy, replacing their trip to the Forbidden Forest two weeks prior as the main topic of conversation.
In the lobby on the first floor at noon, Anil used his wand to cast a levitation charm, controlling two snowballs to chase after Fabio, who was fleeing ahead. Fabio kept glancing back from time to time as he ran for his life. Then, just as the two turned a corner, an accident occurred: Fabio collided with Darius. Anil, distracted, lost control of his snowball and slammed it hard into Darius's face.
Darius looked at the two and punished them severely, "You two, casting spells and fooling around in the corridor, Slytherin, deduct ten points! Since you love playing in the snow so much, then this afternoon you will go and clean up the snow around the fountain in the courtyard! No magic allowed."
“Yes, Mr. Chairman,” the two replied, their faces ashen.
"What bad luck! We got caught by the male student council president this time. How are the two of us supposed to finish sweeping such a big square!"
"Let's go, Fabio. We're just out of luck, but the two of us definitely can't finish cleaning on our own. How about we go back to the dorm and call Rangnuo and the other guy to help?"
"It can only be this way!"
Before long, the four little snakes of Slytherin borrowed brooms from the house-elves.
"I'm sorry, Jean, Jerome. I'm sorry you two have to be punished along with me!"
"Alright, Fabio. Let's stop talking about this. We're roommates, after all! Helping each other out is only right. Let's get started quickly, or we won't finish before dark."
"By the way, Christmas is just two weeks away. What are your plans?" Jeanne began to change the subject, trying to liven up the atmosphere.
"What else can we do but go home, of course! Jerome, what about you?"
"Me? Of course I'm going home too, but my grandparents will be coming to my house for Christmas. In the past few Christmases, they've been traveling on their own."
"I see. So how will your parents explain to your grandparents that you are a wizard?"
"Oh? That's a good question, but unfortunately I don't know. But I don't need to explain, right?!"
"What's so difficult about that? Look at me! My parents wrote to me asking me to go back and perform the magic I've learned for them!" Noah said proudly.
"Speaking of which, my parents say the same thing. It's a good thing our world doesn't have a Ministry of Magic, otherwise we wouldn't be able to use magic during the holidays. That would be so inconvenient!"
"Yeah, yeah, I just hope there won't be too much homework during winter break! Otherwise, how will I have time to show my old friends what I've learned?"
"Hahaha, you're just showing off! But it's a good idea, I'll try it when I get back!"
In the days that followed, the snow fell intermittently outside Hogwarts Castle. The young wizards' flying lessons were canceled as a result, much to the disappointment of many, as these weekly lessons had become their most anticipated event.
Some young wizards even started writing to Andres, expressing their wish to receive a Nimbus 2000 as a Christmas present.
After receiving the letter, Andres glanced at it with a smile and then ignored it. After all, his points were extremely valuable and should only be spent where necessary, such as upgrading the deans' offices. So Andres redeemed four dean's office cards, two teachers' lounge cards, and two Forbidden Forest guardhouse cards.
While upgrading the two heads' offices, Andres also chatted for a while about the students' recent progress. The young wizards were making good progress, with Charms and Transfiguration classes going very quickly. The most advanced students had already advanced to level two in both subjects, and the prefects who had received extra tutoring were all at level two.
Because these two courses were rated Level 2, while the other subjects were rated Level 0, the system still rated them as Level 1. However, through the conversation, it was clear that Professor McGonagall and Professor Flitwick were very satisfied with them.
Principal Andres, who relied on his own hard work and diligent study, made less than satisfactory progress, only reaching 25% of the required level for promotion. It seems the revolution is not yet complete, and Principal Andres still has much to do.
In the final week leading up to Christmas, notices were posted early on the bulletin boards of each house. All junior wizards who planned to stay on campus were to submit their names to their prefects, who would then forward them to the professors.
"Beretta, aren't you going home for Christmas? Why did we see your name on the list of students staying on campus?"
"Erlinda, you read that right! I plan to stay at Hogwarts Castle for Christmas!"
"But don't you need to go back to be with your family! Waaah~~~~~"
"Shut up, Erlinda. All you ever do is eat! Brains! Where are your brains?!" Wendy covered Erlinda's mouth with one hand and her forehead with the other, looking utterly defeated.
“It’s okay, Wendy. I’m used to it. I’m used to it being just me and Catherine at home.”
"I'm sorry, Beretta. I forgot, I didn't mean to. How about you come over for Christmas?"
“It’s alright, Erlinda. Catherine will be coming to Hogwarts Castle for Christmas this year; she already arranged it with Headmaster Andres last week. Otherwise, why do you think I would stay instead of going back to be with my sister?”
