Chapter 53 Thunder
Another week passed quickly with the ebb and flow of the tide. That evening...
Andres and Dobby arrived at the lazy man's travel tent in the principal's office. Inside, a thunderstorm raged. Andres walked ahead, holding an umbrella, while Dobby seemed to be enveloped by an invisible membrane, the rain sliding away from him. Dobby carried a porcelain bowl containing strips of raw meat.
They stood beside a makeshift bird's nest, quietly watching the Thunderbird egg inside, which crackled with electricity. Yes, today was the day the Thunderbird hatched, so Andreas had specifically called Dobby to come and check on things.
They had also prepared clean water and food, and to be honest, Andres was quite looking forward to it. They waited in the rain for about half an hour, and finally, the egg stirred.
The egg began to shake violently, then a crack appeared in its shell, as if something inside was hitting the outer shell. The crack then began to spread throughout the egg.
Soon, with a snap, the eggshell broke. A tiny head poked out, and instead of stopping chirping, it began cleaning the shell. In no time, the newborn creature had eaten all the eggshell that had once protected it.
The little guy hadn't opened his eyes yet; he was just instinctively barking at the outside as if he wasn't full. Seeing this, Andres quickly took a small piece of raw meat from Dobby's ceramic plate and fed it to the little guy. The little guy didn't stand on ceremony and swallowed the whole piece of meat in two or three bites, then continued barking at the outside.
Andres quickly picked up more raw meat strips and started feeding it, but after seeing the little guy eat three or four strips and still cry incessantly, Andres dared not feed it anymore. He was afraid of overfeeding the little guy, so he dipped his finger in water and started dripping it into the little guy's mouth.
Looking at this newborn life, Andres felt a mix of emotions. After a moment's thought, he said, "Since you're a Thunderbird and love thunder and lightning, I'll call you Thunder from now on. It's a bit of a common name, but it suits your character, doesn't it? Well, if you don't object, that means you agree! It's settled then!"
The shameless Andres didn't care whether the little thunderbird understood what it had just said, and forcibly gave it a name. Andres looked at the thunderbird that was calling out happily, thought for a moment, and first cast a spell on the sky.
Soon the rain stopped and the sky turned overcast. Then, looking at Dobby, he asked, "Who do you think would be best to take care of the little guy?"
Dobby stared wide-eyed for a moment, then said, "Principal Andres, Thunder is too small. The house-elves have so many things to do, they can't take it with them all the time. So, how about we try an owl?"
"owl?"
"Yes, owls! First of all, they are birds, and the kind of birds that are predatory and aggressive. We just need to find a gentle female owl and prepare food and water for them, and I think the owl can take good care of young Thunder."
When Thunder grows up and learns to live on its own, the principal can take it with him and raise it.
“Yes, that’s a good idea. Let’s go to the Owl Tower now.” Andres said, placing the little guy on his shoulder, while Thunder clung tightly to Andres’s clothes to keep from falling.
Soon, Andres arrived at the Owl Tower with the little guy and Dobby carrying the little guy's lazy travel tent.
The owls, who had been sleeping with their eyes half-closed, suddenly opened their eyes and stared at the entrance when they heard someone enter. Andres was startled by the scene as he walked in.
Being stared at by dozens of green eyes so late at night would scare anyone. Luckily, Dobby came in too; having someone with him gave him courage! Andres went up to the owls, took Thunder off his shoulder, and held it in his palm.
The owls, seeing a young bird with its eyes still closed, swarmed over. They circled Andres, tilting their heads to look at Thunder. Andres's lips twitched as he thought, "Who says only humans gossip? Animals do too!"
Andres cleared his throat and said, "Do any of you have female owls who could help me take care of this little guy? You know, I'm human and have no experience caring for baby birds, so I need help."
"Of course I won't let you help for nothing. The owl helping to care for the chicks doesn't need to go out to deliver messages. I'll prepare food and water, and you can come and go as you please in that tent. The main thing is that this little guy is a bit picky about his environment, so I'll have Dobby build a simple hut inside as a habitat. So, anyone willing to step forward and help?"
After listening to Andres's words, the owls stared at each other, then cooed a few times, as if discussing something. A moment later, a snowy white snowy owl hopped down to Andres, who quickly recognized it as Snowflake, an owl that shared a name with a beer from a certain major Eastern country.
Andres named it Snowflake because owls are all white. However, Andres didn't consider its gender at the time and just named it after a beer. Now it seems Snowflake is a girl; should they change its name?
Never mind that for now, let the snowflake land on your shoulder. Andres led Snowflake and Thunder back to the Lazy One's travel tent, where the sky was still overcast. They arrived at the bird's nest they had seen before, and Andres turned to Snowflake and asked, "Is this alright?"
Snowflake chirped, picked up the makeshift bird's nest from the ground, and flew to a large tree nearby. It placed the nest on a dense branch and chirped down at Andres below.
“You want to live in a tree? Fine, you’re the boss, you call the shots!” Andres then raised the hand holding the thunder above his head and placed his palm flat.
Snowflake cried out and glided down. As it flew over, it picked up the whining Thunder in its beak, turned, and flew back to the tree. It placed Thunder in the nest, then cried out twice more to Andres.
"What? You want me to cast a drying spell on the nest? You think it's too damp?" Andres asked, puzzled. Snowflake nodded rather humanly, then looked at Andres with an expression that said, "You're not completely stupid."
So Andres took out his wand and cast a drying spell on the nest, and just like that, the nest was dry and cozy again.
Andres turned to Dobby and said, "Build a shelter for them up there, and remember to bring them food and water regularly. Try to meet their needs, understand?"
“Yes, Principal Andres. We will do our best to take care of them.”
After explaining everything, Andres waved and left with Dobby. Snowflake, meanwhile, looked at Little Thunder with a beaming, maternal smile.
