Chapter 492 The Unknown Divine Kingdom (7)
In reality, being able to read and write independently on the continent of Karen is considered a sign of a relatively cultured person. Considering the decorations in this house, this family should be considered of average means. No one cares about the people who come in to search, nor does anyone care that everyone is looking for potentially useful items.
Darius, who was waiting outside for news, had received a lot of information in return. It was said that these houses were in a state from ten thousand years ago. Although there was no one in the houses, it was clear that the owners of these houses had left in a great hurry, as many of their tasks had been left unfinished.
Besides these, everyone also discovered many books, but because of their antiquity, they couldn't be translated immediately, so the wizards collected them to take back and translate. The remaining items were various weapons and equipment piled up in the open space, all buried in ice, but still clearly incredibly sharp.
Darius selected one of the weapons, examined it, then placed it on the ground, drew his wand, and chanted a spell. A blazing fireball landed on the weapon, and the surrounding ice began to melt as the flames burned. After a while, the longsword finally broke free from its ice bindings. Grasping the still slightly damp hilt, Darius swung it. It felt somewhat heavy, indicating that the sword's owner must possess considerable strength. Darius then lightly touched the blade with his finger, and blood immediately welled up from his fingers.
Darius praised as he cast a spell on his finger with his wand.
"This is a decent weapon, much better than the ones used by orcs! If the orcs also use weapons like this, they'll cause us a lot of trouble!"
"Perhaps we can send this to the City of Rest and let the natives of the Karen Continent study it. Their technology seems to have regressed!"
Just as Darius, Professor McGonagall, and the others were playing with their weapons, a wizard walked over carrying an ice sculpture.
“Professor McGonagall, Mr. Darius! We found this in a nearby room. We discovered that almost every house has this idol. These idols are basically the same, with only a few sitting on a throne, so I picked out an ordinary one.”
Darius glanced at the statue in his hand and handed it to Professor McGonagall. Professor McGonagall cast a few spells on the statue but found nothing, so she passed it on to the others. After everyone thoroughly examined the statue, they discovered it was worthless; it was just an ordinary ice sculpture. So they didn't pay much attention and placed the ice sculpture with the weapons and equipment. Half an hour later, the search team returned.
"Alright, everyone, two of you stay here to guard these things. The rest of you, come with us to the city center. We probably won't find anything of value in these ordinary houses. The temples are where we should focus our efforts. Wizards in front, Muggles behind, that's it! Let's go!"
The expedition team set off again, more than an hour after the lich Bolvar had broken away from the group. Darius felt it was time to head to the temple; any later and the lich might escape their control. The expedition team began their exploration, and although they no longer searched inside buildings, they still spent some time on the road.
Along the way, a wizard was drawing on parchment, using spells to direct a quill to write and draw with. Curious onlookers approached to see that he was creating a simple map, recording everything he had seen since entering. As Jackson peered closer, the quill was drawing weapons and shields on a building on the parchment—clearly a weapons shop.
The procession quickly slowed down as they arrived at the plaza in front of the temple. The reason for this slowdown was the sheer number of kneeling ice sculptures covering the vast plaza. Within these sculptures were countless desiccated, skeletal corpses. Everyone understood then where the inhabitants of this divine kingdom had gone; they had all come to the temple and become mummies. But what had they experienced in life? Why had this happened? These questions had become dust in the annals of history, awaiting discovery by future generations.
At this moment, no one in the expedition dared to take a step forward, because the scene was too eerie. Although they were all wizards and not afraid of mummies, they were still wary of the unknown and the bizarre. Who knew what was hidden here? What if there was a problem? Then everyone looked at Darris. Darris thought for a moment and decided to ignore the situation for now. He led the expedition around the square and directly to the temple.
The majestic temple stands silently in the very center of the city, the only stone building here. Thirty-three stone steps lead up to the temple, and four tall warrior statues stand at its four corners, all in defensive stances as if protecting the temple.
Once the main group climbs the steps, they can see that the temple's massive stone pillars are carved with various stories, all depicting the life of a mysterious girl in blue. There are scenes of her birth, her learning magic, and her leading soldiers to defend against invaders. These images densely cover the stone pillars and walls.
Further on, they discovered that the temple doors were slightly ajar, with only enough space for one person to pass through. The temple, which should have been silent, was now filled with sounds of fighting and cursing. The expedition team was bewildered. Weren't they supposed to be the first group to arrive? What were those sounds coming from inside? Had someone sneaked in before them?
Darius, of course, understood the situation, so he remained calm.
"Don't worry, our old friends are inside! Everyone stay here and rest. Send a team of Aurors in with me to check the situation. If we don't come out within an hour, send in a second team of Aurors! If neither team of Aurors comes in and there's still no news, try to notify Principal Andres and have him come and figure something out!"
"Daris, I'll go! I'm a professor, how can I let my student take the risk for me!"
"No, Professor McGonagall! I'm the leader now, and I need to think about everyone's safety. Besides, someone needs to stay here to take care of things, just in case there's any emergency!"
Professor McGonagall stopped arguing when she saw that Darius was so insistent, and the rest of the expedition watched silently as the wizards entered the temple and disappeared into the darkness.
