Huh? There's a magic school here.

Chapter 413 Soul Attack

The remaining psychics directly controlled the soldiers still on guard duty using mental magic. These soldiers, lacking magical protection, were easily subdued. Although the psychics could control the soldiers, they didn't understand human technology, so they could only issue attack commands and couldn't perform actions that their controllers couldn't comprehend.

For example, sabotaging the entire base's control system or cutting off the power supply. These are blind spots for mind mages, so the manipulated will not do these things but simply kill.

The problem was first discovered by the Aurors on night patrol. Because they were wizards with strong mental abilities, they weren't on the psionicists' control list. However, during their patrol, they suddenly found that all the sentry posts that should have been manned were completely empty.

This greatly surprised the patrolling Aurors, as it was simply unbelievable to the Chinese military! Of course, even if it weren't the Chinese military, even the people of sub-Saharan Africa would know that sentry posts must be set up! But now there were no sentry posts, which aroused the vigilance of the Auror squad leader.

"Ling, go to the duty room now and ask if there's been any emergency. Otherwise, why is no one on guard duty? The rest of you, search the surrounding area with me. Everyone, be careful!"

After the squad leader gave his orders, the entire squad began to disperse in pairs. Clearly, they intended to conduct a quick search of the surrounding area, but they soon encountered an unexpected situation. Just a few minutes into their search, one group of team members ran into a patrol of the Chinese military.

The group of wizards had just tried to communicate with their opponents about what they had discovered when they were immediately attacked. To the two wizards, this was utterly baffling; the Dragon Kingdom soldiers not only didn't answer but also launched a direct attack.

Fortunately, the Aurors always carried protective alchemical artifacts when on missions, a habit that allowed them to escape unscathed. The two wizards immediately retaliated, choosing a Stunning Charm instead of the Unforgivable Curse because something was amiss. They needed to capture some prisoners to find out what was going on, and the crisp sound of gunfire soon shattered the tranquility of the night.

Because this was a military-controlled area, most people were sleeping in their dormitories, and in the quiet night, gunfire could carry very far. As the saying goes, gunfire is an order. The gunfire didn't last long and quickly stopped, as the soldiers had all been taken down by the two wizards.

The other wizards in the patrol rushed over to provide support upon hearing the gunshots, and they did not let their guard down when they saw the soldiers lying on the ground. The Auror squad leader, who had just arrived, led the others to inspect the scene, briefly inquired about the situation, and then temporarily confiscated the wands of the two wizards.

Confiscating his team members' wands was for everyone's safety, since the gunfight had just taken place between the Dragon Kingdom soldiers and his two men. One of their groups must have gotten into trouble, but since the Dragon Kingdom soldiers were already under control, temporarily subduing his own men would be enough to keep both sides in check.

The rest is simple; we'll just have to verify it when we get back. This method might seem a bit strange, but it's the normal procedure. Whether you're innocent or not, you have to cooperate with the investigation first, and once it's over, those who deserve rewards will be rewarded, and those who deserve punishment will be punished.

However, the idea was nice, but reality was harsh. Just as they were about to turn back, gunfire erupted in other parts of the base, but those places weren't as lucky as theirs and suffered casualties.

The casualties were suffered by soldiers from the Dragon Kingdom. They were awakened by the gunfire and rushed to the scene. Unfortunately, they encountered another group of soldiers controlled by mind sorcerers. Caught off guard, this group of soldiers was mercilessly slaughtered by their own comrades.

This situation continued to unfold throughout the base until large groups of Aurors arrived and finally subdued the remaining soldiers. Just when everyone thought the matter was resolved, they suddenly realized that Liu Changzhi, the base's supreme commander, had not yet appeared.

The lower-ranking soldiers were fine; they hadn't realized the problem. They didn't see the base commander often, but the command of the Chinese army sensed something was wrong. Given the magnitude of the incident at the base, it was highly unusual that Liu Changzhi, as the base's commander, hadn't shown up to take charge.

When the base chief of staff arrived at the command post from the scene of the incident, he found it completely empty. This sight sent a chill down his spine; the command post was staffed with the elite of the elite, whose loyalty was absolutely reliable.

But now? There's not a single person here. Even if there weren't any officers or soldiers on duty, surely someone would have come to the command post after the incident? But now he found that there was no one there, so he immediately turned around and looked at the soldiers behind him.

"Go, notify all officers of colonel rank and above in the base to report to command!"

"Yes!"

"The rest of you, follow me to the commander's quarters!"

Sensing that the situation was serious, the group quickened their pace and rushed to Liu Changzhi's dormitory, where they began to knock on the door.

But a strange thing happened: no matter how hard they knocked, there was no response. If Liu Changzhi had already left the dormitory, why hadn't anyone notified them? So only one possibility remained: the commander was still inside but, for some reason, couldn't answer them.

Soon, the base's technicians arrived and used a computer to brute-force open the access to Liu Changzhi's dormitory, opening the door. The chief of staff and the others immediately rushed into the room. Then they saw a surprising scene: Liu Changzhi was still sleeping, and he seemed to be sleeping very soundly.

This is strange, considering they are soldiers, normally very sensitive to all kinds of bells and whistles. There's a joke that if someone has served in the military, even if they become a vegetable, it doesn't matter; just play all the emergency assembly whistles for them and they'll wake up on their own!

While that statement was somewhat exaggerated, it did highlight a crucial point: the will of the Chinese soldiers. They would crawl towards the enemy, even if it meant crawling, once the bugle sounded. But I digress. When the chief of staff and others couldn't wake Liu Changzhi no matter what they did, the situation became quite serious.

Because the commander may have been attacked by the enemy, and while they were trying their best to wake Liu Changzhi, the officers below also reported similar incidents, and the number of such incidents was still being counted.
