Huh? There's a magic school here.

Chapter 190 Diane's Course Analysis

"That would be really interesting, wouldn't it?"

"Yes, but my senior wasn't angry, probably because she's seen this kind of thing a lot. She just showed us the magic. I knew then that my life was on a different path."

"Can you two talk as you walk? I finally managed to sneak out of the house, and I don't want to waste any more time."

“Alright, Talia! Let’s talk as we walk! Let’s go to Florin’s Ice Cream Parlor for a drink first.”

So the three of them headed to Florin's Ice Cream Shop. It was only a short holiday, and most students had gone home. Only a few prefects or apprentices were still at Hogwarts and Hogsmeade Village. They were out today only because Talia didn't have to look after her younger brother.

Unlike Marion and his two companions who were strolling around, Diane and Jean got out of the car and walked towards Hogwarts, chatting as they went. They were both walking on a dirt path covered with fallen leaves and branches; Diane was heading to the castle, while Jean was going to the Forbidden Forest. Along the way, Diane was still explaining to Jean how to choose his elective courses for the year.

"Jean-Nau, you'll be starting elective courses in the fall semester. Have you decided which electives you want to take?"

"I haven't decided yet. Do you have any suggestions, Sister Diane?"

"There are only a few elective courses, and we basically tried them all last semester. I originally planned to compile them and share them with you on MSN, but it doesn't hurt to tell you in advance."

"First is Professor Ferenze's Divination class. Professor Ferenze's classes are quite relaxed and humorous, and there isn't much homework. If you're just taking the elective Divination class, it's undoubtedly the best choice. However, Professor Ferenze has clearly told us that Divination class is very dependent on talent. Unless a young wizard has vision, it's difficult to develop in the field of Divination. In fact, as far as I know, none of the people currently taking Divination class have this talent; everyone is just taking the course to get by."

As Jeanne walked along, he listened to Diane's explanation, and couldn't help but comment when he heard Diane's evaluation of the divination class.

"I think I probably don't have that talent either."

"Oh? How do you know you don't have that talent?"

"It's simple. When I was taking exams at my old school, I rarely got multiple-choice questions right when I was just guessing. You have to understand, it was a four-option test! If you can't even guess right, how can you talk about divination!"

“Oh, I see. What you said makes some sense, but I suggest you try it first and then discuss it with Professor Ferencze. Professor Ferencze is very easy to talk to.”

"I'll think about it again later."

"Alright, let me tell you about arithmetic divination. This lesson is quite interesting. How should I put it? It's calculated using mathematical logic, so whether or not you have a field of vision doesn't matter. However, this also indirectly shows that it's not very accurate, because you're not predicting the future by looking, but rather getting a general direction through logical calculations. Professor Ophelia Quinn, who teaches this course, comes from the Department of Mysteries, and according to her, divination is based on causality."

Essentially, it's because you first believe in a certain outcome, and once things begin, your mind inevitably starts to gravitate towards that outcome. This can lead you to unconsciously make decisions that resemble the final result when making choices.

Jeanne felt a bit dizzy from hearing what sounded like a tongue twister.

"Senior, I recognize every single word you say. But when they're put together, I don't understand what you're saying."

"Jeanno, it seems you weren't very good at science in your old school?"

"I'm an Arsenal youth academy player, so as long as my academic performance is decent, that's fine!"

"Oh, I see. I know that all the kids who make it into the youth academy are pretty good. So, do you regret it now? If you hadn't come to be a wizard, maybe you would have been a big star in the future."

"No regrets. Playing football is fun, but it's not as meaningful as becoming a wizard. And who says wizards can't play football? I can play regularly and return to Arsenal after graduating from Hogwarts!"

Jeanne spoke with obvious confidence. Diane didn't tell him that after graduation, he would likely be recruited by Principal Andres to work as a laborer.

"Right, where were we? Oh right, arithmetic divination. In short, this course prioritizes logical reasoning over prophecy! Professor Ophelia Quinn is usually quite amiable."

Let's talk about the Magical Creatures Conservation class. It looks dangerous, but it's not. It's dirty, tiring, and dangerous for girls, but it's very popular with you boys. Especially the young wizards from the Dragon Kingdom. Once, when I passed by the library, Pang Minghui and his friends from Slytherin seemed to be discussing a dragon knight named Yang Guo from their history.

The other young wizards laughed heartily at the mention of dragon knights, so I guess they probably have a thing for them.

"Dragon knights, I used to dream about that too! What boy wouldn't want to have his own dragon? But I wonder if Hogwarts will have dragons in the future. If Hogwarts doesn't have one, then it'll be very difficult."

"Yes, that's what I think too. Hogwarts is unlikely to be available anytime soon; it'll probably be more like it after you graduate."

"The remaining two courses are Ancient Magic and Alchemy! Let's talk about Ancient Magic first. Personally, I don't think Ancient Magic is very practical. Why do I say that? Well, I don't deny that some ancient spells and runes may be very powerful. But why have they been phased out? Saying they've been phased out isn't accurate; it's more accurate to say that most modern wizards have abandoned them."

Either it was because wizards replaced it with safer and more effective magic during the course of history, or because wizards discovered simpler and more practical magic. In short, it was abandoned for various reasons. Since our ancestors have already selected practical and effective methods for us, why should we study those ancient and abandoned things?

Of course, if you're interested in ancient things, you can certainly study them. However, I must warn you that Professor Baburin seems a bit eccentric; he often gets quite agitated while speaking.

After Diane finished speaking, she noticed that Jeanne seemed to be deep in thought, so Diane continued her explanation.

"Finally, let's talk about Professor Lucian Wright's Alchemy course, which is probably the most difficult course in Hogwarts. In fact, its requirements are so high that none of us dared to take it last semester. However, Professor Lucian Wright is very enthusiastic; he often pulls together the young wizards he meets to discuss alchemy."

Although none of us are attending class, we estimate it's a pretty broad course. If you're interested, you could contact Professor Lucian Wright; I'm sure he'd be happy to help you.
