Huh? There's a magic school here.
Chapter 164 Divination Lesson
Just as Pang Minghui was attending Defense Against the Dark Arts class, a dozen or so first and second-year students who had taken the divination course as an elective arrived at classroom number eleven, opposite the main auditorium on the first floor.
Melissa Carlson had chosen Divination, the only sophomore prefect to take this seemingly impractical course. When Melissa and a dozen others entered the dilapidated classroom, they found themselves as if they had entered the Forbidden Forest. They were stunned; the classroom floor and carpet were covered in soft moss.
Several trees grew out from under the moss. The branches of these large trees were covered with lush leaves, which fanned out across the ceiling and windows, so that soft, dappled green light poured into the whole room, and the entire classroom was enveloped in leaves.
When the students entered, they didn't see the desks and chairs they usually used in class. They could only sit on the muddy ground with their backs to tree trunks or large rocks. Because their seating was so casual, they also seemed casual; some had their arms wrapped around their knees, while others had their arms tightly crossed in front of their chests, all appearing quite tense. Ferencze stood in the middle of the treeless open space.
"Welcome! Okay, let's begin our first divination lesson. First of all, I apologize for not being able to attend last week's class. It was because my divination indicated that it was not advisable to go out. You wouldn't want anything to happen to me because of this, would you?"
The young wizards chuckled softly upon hearing this.
"Alright, let's get back to the main topic. Actually, I didn't expect to be giving you a divination lesson, because, to be honest, the magic of us centaurs and you humans is fundamentally different. But then I realized that we don't actually use magic when we're divining. The more important thing is whether each of you here has the talent in this area. When a creature has this talent, it can use various mediums to divine certain things, people, or objects."
Then we glean clues to interpret them. For example, humans like to use crystal balls, tea leaves, palmistry, tortoise shells, coins, and other items for divination, while we centaurs prefer to use fire for divination!
After saying this, Ferrenze paused to see if any of the young wizards had any questions. Sure enough, one of the young wizards raised his hand!
"Professor Ferenczer, if one doesn't have the talent, is there any other way to acquire this ability?"
"I'm sorry, child! This talent is very rare and cannot be acquired from the outside world! It's innate!"
"I understand, Professor. As there's an old saying in our Dragon Country, it all depends on whether our ancestors are willing to grant us this opportunity!"
"Although I don't quite understand what you're saying, the general idea is the same. So I wouldn't be surprised if some of you stopped coming to class after a few months, after all, you can't force that."
As Ferenzie interacted with the young wizards, the students became more and more relaxed and chatted more and more happily. It was as if they weren't there for class, but rather to have afternoon tea with the centaur Ferenzie. However, the topic was entirely about divination.
Ferenze's first lesson didn't involve any divination. Instead, it helped the young wizards understand what divination was all about, and that even talent in this field wasn't omnipotent. It was more of a hint; how to choose and how the future unfolded were still up to the individual.
And so the young wizards finished their first divination class. Before get out of class ended, Ferenze told them to go back and think about whether they really wanted to take the divination class. If anyone wanted to quit, they could come to him anytime. The course was all about doing whatever you wanted.
That evening, Bernhard wore an extra layer under his cloak because the second-year students were having astronomy class in the North Tower. When all the second-year students from all the houses gathered in the astronomy classroom, they all regretted not wearing enough clothes—it was too cold on the terrace.
Joanna quietly pulled Bernhard down to the back of the group, snuggling into his arms for warmth. No one else said anything; after all, everyone knew they were a couple, and they were almost twenty, so it wouldn't be strange if they got married.
Today's astronomy lesson was a very novel one for these young wizards from the Muggle world. Although they had all learned about the planets in the solar system from a Muggle perspective, this was the first time they had seen them through a telescope.
Aurora Sinister knew it was too cold today, so after showing everyone the nine planets of the solar system, she dismissed the class. However, she assigned a lot of homework: a 30-inch assignment about the solar system.
While the students braved the cold wind to gaze at the planets, our Headmaster Andres was preparing for his Animagus transformation. Andres had long coveted this skill, but his magic level hadn't been high enough to give it a try. Now that he had reached level five, he could finally attempt it, but he didn't have the time.
After consulting Professor McGonagall extensively about the Animagus, he finally began his preparations. First, Andres sought out Professor Sprout and obtained a mandrake leaf to hold in his mouth. For the next month, Andres was to remain in his mouth with this leaf constantly, causing him to be extremely cautious, fearing he might accidentally swallow it.
On the night of the full moon a month later, Andres took the leaf and placed it in a small crystal vial filled with saliva. He added a strand of his own hair and a small spoonful of dew, which was no easy feat to obtain. This spoonful of dew required seven full days without sunlight or human contact, and collecting it took Andres a full ten days.
After doing all this, Andres added a pupa of a hawk moth. Once Andres had finished, he carefully stored the vial in a basement, waiting for the storm to arrive.
One day in February, the magical weather bottle that Andreas had placed on the headmaster's desk suddenly began to change. When he saw the storm slowly approaching Hogwarts from the edge of the weather bottle, Andreas knew that the time had come; whether he could learn Animagus depended on this day.
He didn't rush into transforming, but instead, to be on the safe side, he summoned Professor McGonagall, Professor Flitwick, and Professor Snape. These three were essentially the top warriors in the wizarding world; if anything went wrong during the transformation, they could help. Once everyone was there, he even placed his photograph on the headmaster's desk.
This photo was taken so that he could easily transform back into human form, so that he wouldn't be too nervous and forget what he looked like.
"Are you ready, Principal Andres?"
"Ready, Professor McGonagall! I'm about to begin my transformation. The rest is up to you all."
Then Andres pointed his wand at his heart and recited the entire incantation.
"Amado, Animo, Animado, Animagus!"
Then he drank the potion.
"My God!"
