Huh? There's a magic school here.
Chapter 138 Marion's Wand
Leaving the Lihen Bookstore, the Allens pushed their way through the crowd ahead, while Marion followed behind, clutching the books. Every now and then, exuberant new students passed by, excitedly discussing their experiences with their parents or other young wizards, while some kept stuffing candy into their mouths.
Soon, the Allen family arrived at Ollivanders wand shop, where a sign hung at the entrance. It boldly proclaimed: Ollivanders: Crafting fine wands since 382 BC. A tall, bespectacled young man stood at the entrance, diligently maintaining order in the queue.
"Because some young wizards are very picky, matching wands takes a while. Parents and young wizards, please be patient. I suggest the last few in the queue visit other shops first and come back later to avoid wasting everyone's time by waiting in line for too long!"
Just as the tall young man was trying to calm the people in line, they heard a voice that sounded like chanting from inside the room. The tall young man let out a long breath and muttered something.
"This young lady has finally found a suitable wand; she's been inside for about ten minutes now."
A moment later, a couple came out of the wand shop with a little girl who looked happy. A head popped out of the wand shop and spoke to the tall young man.
"Harvey, call the next one in! Just hold on a little longer, and we'll change shifts!"
"Okay, Drew!"
"Sirs, you may go in now!"
The group moved forward another step amidst the murmurs.
While waiting in line, Mrs. Allen struck up a conversation with the lady in front of her.
"Hello, madam, the necklace you're wearing today is really nice. I wonder where you bought it?"
"Thank you, madam. I bought this on a shopping street in Paris last year; it cost me tens of thousands of pounds..."
After a brief murmur, Mrs. Allen changed the subject to the wand.
"Madam, what's the deal with that little girl? The boy who was maintaining order said she's been inside for a long time?"
"Yes, the previous families went in and came out after three to five minutes, but that little girl was in for more than ten minutes. There was an explosion in the middle of it! I don't know what happened. Is choosing a wand really that dangerous?"
Just as the two were chatting, a strong gust of wind suddenly blew open the door of the wand shop. An old man with gray hair spoke to the young wizard who had just entered.
"Ah, child, this wand may not be suitable for you. Let me think about it again, hmm?! Perhaps this one would be more suitable!"
Just as everyone was eager to see what was going on, the young man named Drew poked his head out again, apologized to everyone, and closed the door.
After chatting for a while, Mrs. Allen spoke to her husband.
"Mrs. Emma said there's an ice cream shop in the village. My son and I will go buy ice cream first. You can wait in line here! We'll come find you in a bit."
Mr. Allen could only nod in agreement. He took the book from his son and continued to wait miserably in line. If Andres had known about this situation, he would have definitely made them set up a numbering system. Or he would have taught them to fire signal flares, sending one flare for each person to enter to remind those behind them to come and wait. Unfortunately, Andres wasn't there, so Mr. Allen could only wait there.
The procession continued slowly, but thankfully, the young wizards following the little girl were quick in choosing their wands, about one every five minutes. When four or five young wizards had gone in, Mrs. Ellen returned with Marion. Each of them was scooping ice cream from a box with a spoon, and they also had a box in their bag.
"Dad, try this! I picked it out especially for you! It's a pity Mom won't let me eat the 'Little Friends in the Forest' one!"
"What are those little friends in the forest?"
Mr. Allen, looking bewildered, took the ice cream and opened the box. Inside were miniature models of azure sea and sand. On the beach, there were several small deck chairs and parasols. Most interestingly, the seawater moved, and the models lapped at the shore like normal waves.
"What is this? Did you get the wrong thing? But it's quite interesting; it looks like a real beach."
"Haha, we knew you'd ask that! It really is ice cream! It's called Romantic Summer, and those seawater droplets are some kind of liqueur, what's it called again? Oh right, it's called Blue Curaçao. As for why it's moving, we don't know, but we thought it looked interesting so we bought it for you to try."
Mr. Allen took the spoon his wife handed him and scooped up a spoonful. "Hmm! Not bad, it has a citrus flavor and a slightly bitter aftertaste." Then he noticed his wife and son looking at him expectantly, so he started sharing his ice cream with them. While eating, he remembered his son mentioning the little friends in the forest and asked him what those were!
Marion looked at his mother with a hint of resentment, while Mrs. Allen said with a look of disgust.
"That's a squirrel! A live squirrel!"
"No, that's ice cream! That pretty girl said it was delicious, and she preferred to call it 'Scream!'"
"How could such a pretty young girl bite such a cute little animal?!"
"But it's ice cream!"
Listening to the argument between the mother and son, and looking at the ice cream in his hand, Mr. Allen seemed to understand something. It was probably an ice cream that looked exactly like a squirrel, which his wife thought was too cruel and didn't buy for their son.
After a while, it was finally their turn in line. Now, another young man named Drew was maintaining order, and he let them in. As soon as they entered, they saw the white-haired old man they had just caught a glimpse of.
"Ah! Another energetic little wizard! So, little one, what's your name?"
"Sir, my name is Marion Allen!"
Which hand do you usually use?
"Of course, it's the right hand!"
"Very good, extend your right hand!"
Marion did as instructed, while Garrick Ollivander took out a tape measure and took a measurement.
“Let me think, let me think, I’ve got it! Maybe it will suit you! Harvey, get me the fifth box in the second row of the cabinet on your right against the wall.”
Harvey Ryan turned around and retrieved the box, handing it to Garrick Ollivander.
Garrick Ollivander carefully opened the box to show the Allen family and explained.
"A combination of nine inches, ash wood, and siren nerves, it allows you to move freely in the water."
Seeing that Marion took the wand but did not react, Ollivander reminded him again.
"Try waving it!"
So Marion obediently waved his wand, and a burst of water splashed out, soaking everyone in the room.
"It's clearly not this wand!"
Garrick Ollivander took the wand back from Marion and began to think again.
"Perhaps it would be more suitable for you!"
After muttering to himself, Ollivander turned around and took a box from a shelf behind him.
