"grown ups……"

Ah Chen's voice remained low, with an undisguised tremor. His gaze remained fixed on the ground, and he dared not meet her eyes.

His heart was pounding so hard it felt like it would burst out of his chest, and a deep emptiness washed over him like a tidal wave, almost suffocating him.

From childhood to adulthood, he had lived in darkness and oppression. His status as a slave had molded him into someone who only knew how to obey.

He never dared to hope that any female would want him, even for a moment of warmth.

Every expectation is shattered by the cruelty of reality.

Until now, until I met Yan Shu.

There was tenderness and concern in her eyes, and at that moment, he actually dared to believe that he might one day be needed.

But she said he was free, that he could return to the homeland of the mermaids, to the sea he had never seen before.

So for him, it wasn't freedom, but abandonment.

He had been used to being abandoned since he was a child, and he felt that even if he could return to his hometown, he would still be an abandoned being.

He didn't want to go back.

Ah Chen clenched his fists tightly, his knuckles turning white, as he tried to suppress the fear and unease in his heart.

He dared not look up at Yan Shu, afraid of seeing the coldness and disgust in her eyes.

Just as he was lost in deep thought, Yan Shu looked at his wounded little animal-like appearance and felt a sense of helplessness.

She couldn't stand seeing others so pitiful, and she disliked seeing people groveling in fear, especially in front of her.

With a soft sigh, she could only turn to the tribal elder and say, "Elder, please make a pact between me and Achen."

The elder remained silent for a moment after hearing this, then glanced at Achen with a deep look, knowing that he was one of the fathers of the twin mermaids.

A strange power suddenly gathered in the air, and Achen felt as if he was being pulled by some invisible force.

As soon as the contract was completed, Ah Chen's heart pounded. He instantly and clearly felt the connection between himself and Yan Shu, a connection that seemed to engulf all his senses.

His eyes widened, his face almost screaming with shock and disbelief.

Ah Chen originally thought he would be driven away, but the female master not only did not drive him away, but also made a contract with him, giving him an opportunity that he never dared to hope for.

Ah Chen's emotions were instantly turned upside down, from the deepest fear and despair to unbelievable joy.

He was stunned, his expression so excited he couldn't control himself. He wanted to say something, but he was too excited to utter a single word.

What he saw made Ah Chen's heart pound so hard it felt like it would leap out of his chest. He lowered his head, his voice choked with emotion, his shoulders trembling slightly, "M-Master...I...I really..."

At this moment, he was breathing rapidly, and his words were incoherent, completely unable to form a complete sentence.

The emotional turmoil was almost unbearable for him. He knelt on the ground, his eyes filled with a mixture of shock and excitement, and tears streamed down his face.

Yan Shu was stunned by his appearance, even though she was usually calm.

Ah Chen's excitement surprised her, and the scene before her made her feel a little embarrassed.

"Don't do this, Ah Chen,"

Yan Shu sighed softly, her tone reassuring, "From now on, you're mine. You don't need to be afraid anymore."

Seeing his pitiful appearance, she couldn't bear it any longer. As if possessed, she reached out and gently lifted his chin, forcing him to look at her.

Ah Chen's tearful eyes were filled with shock, as if he couldn't believe he had such an opportunity.

"You don't need to worry about being abandoned anymore, Ah Chen, I won't abandon you."

Her voice softened, and a hint of tenderness appeared in her eyes. "Now, stand up."

Ah Chen looked at her, seemingly not quite able to react for a moment, but seeing her eyes, the feeling of relying on her suddenly gained a different kind of strength.

His hands trembled slightly, but he eventually stood up slowly with her help.

Even after he regained his footing, he still couldn't quite believe his current situation.

He lowered his head, his heart filled with gratitude, yet words failed him.

Yan Shu patted his shoulder, a simple yet powerful gesture that seemed to offer him comfort and strength.

After Yan Shu calmed A Chen down, she glanced at the three people next to her out of the corner of her eye.

Ah Xu, Ah Hou, and Ah Ling's eyes fell on her almost simultaneously. In that instant, she could almost feel the helplessness and longing in their eyes.

Their gazes were as if bound tightly by invisible ropes, full of expectation yet tinged with unease.

The three people exchanged glances, as if making a tacit decision. Then, almost simultaneously, the three figures slowly knelt down, as if they had finally mustered the courage to ask her for the same reassurance.

Yan Shu: "..."

-

Yan Shu finally returned home and breathed a sigh of relief.

Her steps were heavy, and she looked exhausted.

The quiet room looked exceptionally cozy, and she almost immediately lay down on the bed, closed her eyes, and pretended to be asleep.

If she doesn't lie down sooner, what kind of trouble will they cause?

The thought that the three of them had actually knelt on the ground so that she would help them up one by one just to make her pinch their chins was enough to give him a headache.

The softness of the bedding instantly relaxed her body, yet her mind still couldn't help but wander to those thoughts, leaving her feeling helpless and at a loss for words...

As those few animals walked in, she quickly suppressed these distracting thoughts, tried to relax, and her feigned sleep became more and more natural.

After only a short while, her breathing became steady, her eyelids grew heavy, and slowly, she truly drifted off to sleep.

The room was quiet, save for her soft breathing and the occasional whistling of the wind outside the window.

-

When Yan Shu woke up, she felt dizzy and weak, and her body felt even weaker than before.

She barely opened her eyes and saw light streaming into the room through the curtains. The air felt somewhat stuffy, as if her physical condition was affecting the atmosphere around her.

She shifted slightly, feeling noticeably uncomfortable due to the drop in her health values.

"Shushu, you're awake?" Axu's voice rang in her ear, carrying a hint of tenderness and worry.

She turned her head and saw that Ah Xu was sitting on the edge of the bed, his gaze fixed on her. He breathed a slight sigh of relief when he saw that she had woken up.

"Shushu, come on, have some water."

Ah-Xu reached out to touch her forehead.

Yan Shu took a sip from his water glass.

As Xu watched her finish half a cup of hot water, he said softly, "Ah Hou and Ah Ling have already gone to find medicinal herbs. When they come back, the elder can brew medicine for you."

After he finished speaking, he gently helped her lean back against the pillow and covered her with the blanket. His thoughtfulness and care eased Zhou Su's mood slightly.

She nodded and replied softly, "Okay."

But when her gaze unconsciously swept to a corner of the room, her eyes froze for a moment.

Ah Chen was kneeling on the ground, head down, intently wiping the floor.

Yan Shu was taken aback, a hint of doubt in her mind. She then realized that Ah Chen had started to do these chores voluntarily, which must have been due to some kind of hint.

Seeing her gaze, Ah Xu sighed softly, "It's not that I'm abusing him, he just insists on doing it himself."
