Rebirth in Another World: The Ultimate Legend
Chapter 60 The mysterious old man
As Lin Yu and the others fled, their hearts grew heavier. Lin Yu ran desperately, silently vowing in his heart, "Old Wang, don't worry, we will definitely come back to save you." His face was covered with sweat and dust, forming streaks of mud, but his eyes burned with an unwavering flame, a resolute determination to achieve his goal.
Xiao Jinzhi was panting heavily, her chest heaving violently. She said with difficulty, "Lin Yu, we can't keep running like this. We need to find a place to hide." Her face was full of exhaustion and anxiety, her brows were tightly furrowed, and her eyes showed helplessness and confusion. Her once delicate face now looked disheveled.
Lin Yu frowned, his eyes quickly scanning the surroundings. After a moment's thought, he said, "There's a cave ahead. Let's hide there for a while." His gaze turned towards a ravine not far ahead, where a cave entrance could be vaguely seen. A glimmer of hope shone in his eyes.
Despite their extreme exhaustion, the group stumbled and staggered into the cave. Upon entering, Lin Yu quickly pressed himself against the entrance, cautiously observing the surroundings. His body was taut like a fully drawn bow, every muscle on high alert, his eyes wary and sharp, like a beast ready to pounce on its prey.
"Brother Lin Yu, we can't just abandon Lao Wang like this," Ling'er said, tears welling in her eyes. Her tears kept swirling in her eyes, her voice trembling with sobs, and she could barely speak a complete sentence. Her once bright eyes were now bloodshot, and her hands gripped the hem of her clothes tightly, her knuckles turning white from the force.
Lin Yu clenched his fists, his knuckles cracking, and gritted his teeth as he said, "I know, but we're barely able to save ourselves right now. We need to find a way to recover our strength before making any further plans." His expression was serious and pained, his brows furrowed into a deep knot, and his tone was filled with helplessness and resentment, but his determined eyes showed that his resolve had never wavered.
Lin Feng's face was filled with resentment, his eyes wide open as if they were about to spit fire: "Ouyang Kuishan and the others are too hateful, this debt must be settled." His teeth were grinding, the muscles on his face were trembling with anger, and the veins on his forehead were bulging, like winding earthworms.
Just then, a faint sound of footsteps came from outside the cave.
"Quiet down, everyone." Lin Yu hurriedly gestured for everyone to be quiet. His eyes instantly turned sharp, one hand made a shushing gesture, the other hand gripped his sword tightly, and his body leaned slightly forward, ready to fight at any moment.
The footsteps grew closer, and everyone's hearts leaped into their throats. Each person held their breath, afraid to make a sound, staring intently at the cave entrance, as if time itself had frozen.
However, it was a mysterious old man who entered. The old man had white hair, but it was neatly combed, and his beard flowed, giving him an air of otherworldly grace. His eyes were deep and bright, as if they could see through everything. The old man wore a simple long robe, which, although somewhat old, was clean and tidy, and a coarse cloth belt was tied around his waist, which added to his ancient and rustic air.
The old man looked at them, a hint of surprise flashing in his eyes before he regained his composure: "How did you all end up here?" His voice was deep and gentle, his face filled with curiosity as he scanned the group.
Lin Yu looked at the old man warily, his body still in a defensive posture, his eyes fixed on the old man, and asked cautiously, "Who are you?"
The old man smiled gently, a smile as warm and comforting as a spring breeze: "Don't be nervous, children. I am a hermit from these mountains and have no intention of harming you." He spread his hands to indicate that he meant no harm, his eyes filled with sincerity.
Lin Yu and the others remained vigilant, their eyes still filled with suspicion as they scrutinized the old man.
The old man seemed to see through their thoughts and said, "I know you are being hunted by Ouyang Kuishan. I can help you." His eyes were sincere and firm, and his tone was full of earnestness.
Lin Yu asked in confusion, "Why are you helping us?" His eyebrows were slightly raised, his eyes showing incomprehension and wariness.
The old man sighed, his gaze becoming distant and profound, as if lost in memories: "Ouyang Kuishan has committed numerous evils, oppressing the local people and causing them to suffer greatly. Although I have lived in seclusion here, I have long wanted to get rid of him, but I have never had the opportunity. Seeing you all fighting against him, I feel it is time to lend a helping hand." A trace of anger and helplessness appeared on his face, and his hands unconsciously clenched.
Lin Yu thought for a moment and decided that he could trust the old man. His expression relaxed slightly, and he said, "Thank you, senior." He bowed slightly to express his gratitude, and the wariness in his eyes lessened.
