Rebirth in Another World: The Ultimate Legend

Chapter 181 Meeting the King (Part 2)

The tightly closed door was slowly and gently pushed open, making a soft creaking sound. With that sound, a graceful palace maid cautiously entered. She carried a delicate tray steadily in both hands, upon which were laid out a variety of tempting foods and fragrant drinks.

The palace maid moved with light steps, as if afraid of disturbing the people inside. She approached, bowed slightly, and said in a voice as soft as a breeze across a lake, "His Majesty specially instructed me to bring this to you two. Please enjoy." After speaking, she gracefully placed the tray on the exquisitely carved table, then bowed to Lin Yu and the woman before quietly retreating.

Lin Yu and the woman beside him exchanged a glance, both seeing a slight easing of tension in each other's eyes. After all, in such an unfamiliar and unknown environment, such sudden kindness was somewhat reassuring.

Lin Yu broke the silence first, saying, "Let's not think too much about it. Let's ignore everything else for now and quickly eat something to replenish our energy. We might still have a lot of things to deal with next." As he spoke, he walked towards the table and gestured for the woman to come over with him.

The woman nodded slightly, indicating her agreement with Lin Yu's suggestion. The two then walked side-by-side to the table, each pulling up a chair and sitting down.

Just as the woman reached out to pick up a seemingly delicious pastry, a sudden, inexplicable unease washed over her. Her hand froze in mid-air, her gaze fixed on the pastry, her brow furrowed, her face filled with vigilance. She said in a serious tone, "Wait! I have a feeling something's not right… Could there be something wrong with this food?"

Lin Yu slowly stopped what he was doing. His sharp eyes, like those of a hawk, were fixed on the neatly arranged food in front of him. His brows furrowed slightly, as if he wanted to find some clues in the seemingly ordinary food, but after careful observation, he did not notice anything unusual.

"Perhaps we're just overthinking it," Lin Yu said gently, shaking his head with a hint of doubt. However, the woman standing beside him still looked worried, her beautiful eyes flashing with unease. She remained hesitant to try the food before her, still harboring doubts.

Just as the two were locked in a stalemate, a very faint noise suddenly came from outside the window not far away. Although the sound was very soft, it was exceptionally clear and jarring in the quiet atmosphere. Lin Yu's heart tightened, and his body reacted instantly, leaping up like an arrow and rushing to the window in a few strides. He cautiously peeked out, looking left and right, trying to find the source of the sound. However, to his surprise, apart from the complete silence outside, he saw no suspicious figures or objects whatsoever.

"Was I really too nervous?" The woman muttered to herself as she looked at Lin Yu, who had returned to the house empty-handed. At this moment, she felt increasingly uneasy, as if an invisible pressure was weighing heavily on her chest.

Just then, the previously closed door was suddenly pushed open forcefully once more. With a dull thud, a tall, stern-faced man strode in. This was one of the king's most trusted confidants. He looked solemnly at Lin Yu and the woman, then said in a deep, powerful voice, "His Majesty the King requests your immediate audience!"

Upon hearing this, Lin Yu and the woman exchanged a glance, both seeing surprise and fear in each other's eyes. They knew that the king's summons must have a reason, and there was no time to lose. So they quickly agreed and hurriedly followed the minister towards the king's location. All the way, their hearts were heavy, their minds constantly racing, wondering what kind of situation they would face next…
