Su Ling's Time Travel
Chapter 72 Crime and Punishment
His crimes were finally exposed, and those he had oppressed and harmed now stood against him, staring at him with indifference and anger. He knew he could no longer escape the law, and those evil deeds would ultimately make him pay the price.
"Murong Yunhai, do you have anything else to say?" a police officer asked coldly, his tone revealing a hint of disdain and mockery. He had long since lost any sympathy or pity for such a person.
Murong Yunhai raised his head, his eyes flashing with a complex light. "I...I have nothing to say." His voice was low and hoarse, as if every word contained endless pain and regret. He knew that his explanations and pleas were futile, because those crimes were already deeply imprinted on his soul.
Meanwhile, Ouyang Zetian was also plunged into deep self-blame and anguish. He had lost everything because of his mistakes, including his status, wealth, and dignity. He sat in the dimly lit room, clutching a yellowed photograph in his hand—a picture of him and Su Ling. Their smiles were so radiant, as if they could illuminate the entire world. Yet now, everything had vanished like smoke.
"Why did I become like this?" Ouyang Zetian murmured to himself, his tone revealing a hint of confusion and helplessness. He knew that his greed and selfishness had led him down a path of no return, and Su Ling's departure had deprived him of his last chance for redemption.
Meanwhile, Su Ling stood outside Jing Zheqing's cell, her eyes flashing with complex emotions. This man who had once plunged her into such a predicament was now like a tiger with its teeth pulled, posing no threat to her whatsoever. Yet, she couldn't muster any hatred for him.
"Su Ling, you're here." Jing Zhe looked up, a hint of surprise and joy flashing in his eyes. He knew that Su Ling was the only one who would still come to see him.
Su Ling smiled slightly, her smile carrying a hint of warmth and care. "Yes, I'm here. How have you been lately?" Her tone was gentle and concerned, as if she were greeting a long-lost friend.
Jingzhe shook his head, a hint of helplessness and resignation in his eyes. "What else can I do? I'm here, living the same life every day. But with you here, I feel much better." His voice was low and hoarse, as if every word contained endless gratitude and warmth.
Looking at Jing Zheqing, Su Ling felt a complex mix of emotions. She knew this man had caused her endless pain and distress, but she also knew he wasn't entirely bad. There was still warmth and kindness in him, only hidden by greed and selfishness.
“Jingzhe, do you know? I don’t actually hate you,” Su Ling said softly, her tone revealing sincerity and frankness. “What I hate is the environment that put me in this predicament, the fate that prevented me from choosing freely. But I also understand that everyone has their own choices and responsibilities. If you choose that path, you have to bear the corresponding consequences.” Her voice was gentle yet firm, as if she were stating a profound truth.
As Jing listened to Su Ling's words, a flicker of surprise and emotion crossed his eyes. "Su Ling, thank you. Thank you for coming to see me, thank you for saying these things to me. I know I've done many wrong things, but I hope you can forgive me." His voice was low and sincere, as if he were pleading for Su Ling's forgiveness.
Looking at Jing Zheqing, Su Ling felt a strange emotion welling up inside her. She knew that this man had received his due punishment, and she had completed her mission. However, she couldn't feel any hatred towards him; instead, a subtle feeling was quietly growing between them.
“Jing Zhe, I will forgive you. But you must understand that some mistakes are irreversible. You must take responsibility for your actions, and also for those who have been hurt,” Su Ling said softly, her tone serious and earnest. “However, I also hope that you can start anew and find your own path.” Her voice was gentle and warm, as if offering Jing Zhe a final bit of care and encouragement.
As Jing listened to Su Ling's words, a tear and gratitude welled up in his eyes. "Thank you, Su Ling. I will remember your words, and I will try my best to start over." His voice was low and firm, as if he were making an important promise.
Su Ling visits Jing Zheqing in prison every month, bringing books and daily necessities each time. She hopes that even in such an environment, Jing Zheqing can maintain his enthusiasm for learning and prevent his spiritual world from becoming barren.
"Please, Jingzhe, I brought you some new books and daily necessities this month. Just tell me what you need," Su Ling said calmly, placing the items on the table.
Jingzhe looked up, a hint of gratitude flashing in his eyes. "Su Ling, you always care about me so much. Actually, I'm already very content. With you here, I don't feel like I've been completely abandoned by the world."
Su Ling smiled slightly. She knew that this subtle emotion had transcended grudges and transformed into a special kind of friendship. "Jing, please, we do have a complicated past, but I also believe that everyone has the potential to change and grow. I hope you can find your true self here."
