Moonlight falls into my arms

Chapter 17 I don't believe you can remain calm and collected when you look at her face.

"You're such a busy person, yet you still have the time to come."

Huo Xingzhou poured him a glass of water. "I made plans with you the day before yesterday when I just got back to China, but you dragged it out until now. It's like you're asking me to have dinner with you after work."

Huo Xingzhou had just finished get off work and was still wearing a formal suit with his tie tossed aside.

"Busy, what do you want to ask me out for?"

Jiang Yuci doesn't drink alcohol. He took the water that Huo Xingzhou poured for him and watched as Huo poured him red wine.

"Ask her about it? Didn't you say you'd talk about it when I got back to China?"

Jiang Yuci turned the glass around. "I can tell you by making a phone call."

"Tsk." Huo Xingzhou glanced at him: "I need to find out the details. How can I possibly get the full picture over just a few words on the phone?"

“Jiang Yuci.” Huo Xingzhou sat up straight, which was unusual for him. “I thought you were just obsessed with her, but now it seems you’re really obsessed to the point of madness.”

Huo Xingzhou leaned back, his eyes filled with helplessness: "What do you mean by having someone who looks exactly like her by your side? I had no idea you'd become into this kind of stand-in act."

“I didn’t find them; they brought them to my side. They don’t want me to continue working at the hospital.” Jiang Yuci picked up a vegetarian dish from the table with her chopsticks.

Huo Xingzhou frowned: "Your parents are crazy, are you going to go crazy too? What's the point of keeping her around? Are you dreaming?"

Jiang Yuci paused in her hand movements, and the vegetable she was about to pick up fell into her bowl.

He pressed down on his lips and explained, "Even without her, they would have found other ways. It's better to keep her by their side; at least I know she's one of their people."

“You know she’s one of their people, yet you still keep her by your side. I don’t believe you can remain calm when you look at her face.”

“Why not? She’s not Ruan Li, I know that very well.” Jiang Yuci drank the water in his glass in one gulp.

Across from him, Huo Xingzhou stared at him with a complex expression: "Do you really know, or are you just making excuses for yourself?"

“If you were truly sober, you should have exposed her immediately and sent her away, instead of playing along with her act and making me buy her clothes and take her to the hospital.”

Huo Xingzhou knew that Jiang Yuci was the kind of person who would never trouble others if he could avoid it. When he heard that Jiang Yuci asked him to help buy clothes and deliver them, he was stunned for three seconds. When he heard that they were small-sized women's clothing, he was speechless.

She didn't even care about the urgent flight; she immediately bought clothes and went to the hospital just to see who he had taken a fancy to. She even bought clothes for him.

Who knew that when they arrived, they would see a face exactly like Ruan Li's.

"I understand that you won't give up your job at the hospital, but have you ever thought that if you pretend for too long, you'll even deceive yourself? Looking at that face, can you guarantee..."

"I can." Jiang Yuci put down her chopsticks. "I'm leaving now."

"Could you take me to the law firm first? I need to go back and get some documents."

Seeing that he was standing still, Huo Xingzhou said matter-of-factly, "I've been drinking, what's wrong with asking you to take me home?"

Jiang Yuci hummed in agreement.

The two went down to the basement level. Huo Xingzhou opened the passenger door and saw a shopping bag on the seat.

He easily spotted the pink shoebox inside.

He chuckled, looking at the person in the driver's seat, "Don't tell me you bought this for yourself?"

Jiang Yuci ran his fingertip along the edge of the steering wheel and explained, "Her shoes were broken, so she asked me to bring them for her."

"Heh." Huo Xingzhou put the things in the back seat.

After getting into the car and closing the door, he noticed a hook hanging on the car.

He fiddled with it for a moment, "When did you learn to make these little things?"

"A gift from someone else."

Huo Xingzhou stared at him; it was obvious who had sent it.

"You make it difficult for me to give a proper evaluation."

"Then shut up."

"..."

Ruan Li's first attempt to enroll in school failed, and she stayed quietly by Jiang Yuci's side for two days.

At noon, Ruan Li followed Jiang Yu to the cafeteria for lunch.

Someone came up to her and asked where she bought her shoes.

Ruan Li stared at the pink and white shoes on her feet, smiled, and looked at Jiang Yuci.

Jiang Yu left without saying a word to get his food.

"I don't know either," Ruan Li replied.

"Dr. Jiang didn't buy it for you, did he?"

"Yes."

The nurse glanced furtively at Jiang Yuci before asking Ruan Li, "Are you really his sister?"

Ruan Li tilted her head: "What, you don't believe me?"

"Then why don't you call me brother?"

Ruan Li thought about it carefully, "I don't like it. Oh, you want to call him brother?"

The nurse blushed at Ruan Li's teasing and lowered her head, smiling shyly.

"Ah, you asked me about shoes just now because you wanted to strike up a conversation with him, right?" Ruan Li said.

"Yes..." The nurse looked at Ruan Li, "Little sister, can you do me a favor?"

"What's the deal?"

"Well... a lot of people at the hospital are saying that Dr. Jiang has someone he likes, but I've never seen her. Is it true? It's making me afraid to pursue him."

Ruan Li pursed her lips, thinking that this really couldn't be more true, and Jiang Yuci even liked that first love, the white moonlight, even more than the rumors in the hospital said.

"Do you want me to go and find out for you?" Ruan Li shook her head: "I really can't do that. He'll get angry, and when he gets angry, he'll kick me out."

The nurse's eyes widened upon hearing her words: "You, you live with him?"

Ruan Li paused.

Oh no, I let it slip.

"Um, I'm staying at his house temporarily because of some special family circumstances. I'll move out once things are over."

"I'm so envious! What's Dr. Jiang like in private?"

Ruan Li had barely uttered a sound when Jiang Yuci walked over with a plate of food, his cold gaze falling on Ruan Li.

Ruan Li abruptly changed the subject, "I'm hungry, I'm going to get some food."

Ruan Li bypassed the nurse and casually took the meal card from Jiang Yuci's pocket.

The nurse naturally took this scene in.

Dr. Jiang usually has a very unapproachable demeanor, but I didn't expect him to be so doting on his younger sister, who can actually touch his pocket so easily.

"Jiang Yu resigned, I have something to attend to."

Ruan Li bit her chopsticks, her clear eyes fixed on him.

Jiang Yuci met her gaze, "I won't listen."

"..." Ruan Li smiled and said, "I still have to say that someone just told me that they are interested in you and also wanted me to find out about you."

Jiang Yuci glanced at her.

Ruan Li's eyes widened. "I didn't say anything! She asked me if you really had a white moonlight in your heart that you couldn't let go of. How could I tell her that?"

"After all... cough cough." Ruan Li suddenly choked on a grain of rice, and she gulped down a mouthful of soup next to her.

Who knew the soup was so hot that it almost burned her tongue and throat.

Jiang Yu stepped aside and took a paper cup to get her some water.

The paper cup was handed to Ruan Li's lips.

Her cheeks and neck flushed red, and she took Jiang Yuci's hand and drank it down.

Jiang Yuci was completely focused on Ruan Li's condition and didn't realize that he, who usually disliked being touched by others, had let Ruan Li hold his hands and drink the whole glass of water.
