Moonlight falls into my arms

Chapter 1: Has she been dead for years?

Ruan Li felt that the world had gone mad, and no one acknowledged her existence.

When she got home, her neighbor teased her, "Your parents don't want you anymore."

Ruan Li took it as a joke, but what awaited her was a key that wouldn't budge no matter how she tried, a neighbor she'd never seen, a phone call that wouldn't go through, and winter weather that arrived in the blink of an eye.

She went to the school, but the security guard wouldn't let her in. She said she was Ruan Li, a student in Class 1 of the third year of high school, but the principal and the homeroom teacher said there was no such person in the school.

Clinging to her last shred of hope, she called the police.

"Ruan Li... passed away ten years ago. Her death was registered with the household registration authority on July 18, 2010, and her household registration was cancelled..."

The policeman's words shattered her completely. Ruan Li walked down the street, looking at the city that was both strange and familiar, with its tall buildings and bustling traffic, all of which seemed out of place to her.

She's been dead for ten years?

Ruan Li squatted in the vast snowfield, seemingly forgotten by everyone and abandoned by the whole world.

All she had was a diary she had found.

The owner of the diary was careful and cautious. There was no name, no date, and not a single entry about himself. All the writing was on a girl.

A diary, filled with her writings.

Ruan Li, her eyes blurred with tears, clutched her diary, with nowhere to go.

The sky was shrouded in a gloomy twilight.

She went to the only place mentioned in the diary.

"Ruan Li".

The man's face was hidden in the shadows and could not be seen clearly, but he was the first and only person to call out Ruan Li's name.

In sight, the girl was wearing a white shirt, and the bright red skirt was particularly eye-catching in the night.

He seemed to find the scene before him unbelievable. Behind his frameless glasses, his beautiful eyes widened slightly, then, after a moment of being out of focus, they fixed intently on Ruan Li, their expression strained and unbearable.

"You, you know me..." Ruan Li's voice choked and hoarse.

It turns out that the most terrifying thing is being forgotten.

Snow fell heavily, all was silent, and the dim streetlights cast long shadows on the ground. The girl standing in the snow had bruises and cuts on her legs.

Ruan Li bit her lip to stop herself from crying, afraid that if her vision blurred, he would disappear.

"Please help me, you're the only one left."

Only you remember me.

The man in front of her stared at her intently, his lips slightly parted, speechless.

In the still of the night, Ruan Li's face was pale, her pupils were bright and clear in the dim yellow light, but they revealed helplessness and grievance. Her slender body was shivering from the cold, and the blood that had seeped from her lips had long since dried.

His eyelashes trembled slightly, and he lowered his eyes to cover his reddened eyelids, murmuring softly, "...Enough is enough, Jiang Yuci."

How could someone who has been dead for ten years possibly reappear?

Perhaps he should see a doctor.

Until the girl in front of him fainted.

He held her body, which was hypothermic, his fingertips touching her breath, listening to her vigorous heartbeat.

He then realized that it wasn't all a hallucination caused by his excessive longing.

Hua'an Hospital.

The two information desk staff huddled together, both staring in one direction. "Is that Dr. Jiang?"

"Yes! I didn't see wrong, did I? Dr. Jiang is carrying a girl? And he looks very anxious. He's the kind of person who wouldn't flinch even if Mount Tai were crushing him. How serious must the girl he's carrying be?"

Not only were outsiders curious, but the doctors who gave Ruan Li emergency treatment were even more curious.

"Fortunately, it's nothing serious. It was just a fainting spell caused by sudden exposure to cold, which constricted blood vessels in the skin and led to heat loss." Dr. Li stared at Jiang Yuci and teased, "However, this is the first time I've seen you so anxious. Is this someone we know?"

"...I don't know him."

The nurse brought a warm blanket and a hot water bottle to cover Ruan Li, and unexpectedly noticed the diary clutched in Ruan Li's hand. "This..."

Jiang Yuci looked at it; the cover of the diary had turned yellow, but Jiang Yuci would remember it for a lifetime.

He strode toward the hospital bed, looking somewhat anxious, and tried to take the diary, but it was held tightly in his hand, and he couldn't pull it out at all.

"Hey, Dr. Jiang, what are you doing? You can't touch the patient's things." A nurse stopped him from the side.

Dr. Li walked over, his eyes fixed on Jiang Yuci. Today, Jiang Yuci seemed like a different person. First, he rushed over to bring the person here, and then he tried to snatch the little girl's diary.

"You still say you don't know her? You're not the kind of person who would just take other people's things. And who is this? Your younger sister?"

Dr. Li had suspected she was his girlfriend, but Jiang Yuci's usual demeanor suggested he had absolutely no interest in women, and the girl looked to be only about an adult.

"No." Jiang Yuci let go of her hand and didn't try to snatch the diary again. She looked at Dr. Li and said, "You guys go ahead with your work. I'll take care of this."

Dr. Li worried about him: "You traveled more than 20 hours across borders to get back to the hospital, and then performed more than 10 hours of surgery. The head doctor told you not to go to work tomorrow and to have a good rest. Are you trying to get yourself killed by not going home to sleep? I'm on duty here. Do you need me?"

Jiang Yuci stared blankly at the person on the bed and said, "She won't be asleep for long. I'll go back when she wakes up."

Dr. Li looked at him helplessly and sighed, then went out with the nurse and closed the door.

Jiang Yuci gazed quietly at the person lying on the hospital bed.

His gaze traced her eyebrows, eyes, lips, and nose; the long, curved eyebrows, the arc of her eyes, and even the mole at the corner of her eye were exactly the same.

But he was perfectly clear-headed; the girl with the youthful and innocent face in front of him could not possibly be Ruan Li.

Jiang Yuci scanned her face repeatedly, scrutinizing every detail, as if trying to find some flaw.

If the two people already look 80% alike, minor adjustments might achieve this level of similarity.

Moles on the cheeks can also be caused by doping.

Jiang Yu could not find any other reason to resign.

Jiang Yuci stared for a long time until his eyes stung with tears. He then looked away and pressed his temples.

A few days ago, he was called home and forced to give up his job at the hospital, which he refused.

Tonight, a person who looked exactly like Ruan Li appeared and stood in front of him.

Jiang Yuci dialed a number.

Before she could even open her lips, harsh and forceful words came crashing down on her: "I've made myself perfectly clear to you. If you don't come back and insist on competing with your brother for that department head position, then don't blame your father and me for using other means to bring you back."

Jiang Yuci remained expressionless, her tone cold and stern: "Is she even an adult? To achieve your goals, she's willing to use any means necessary..."

"Dudududu..."

After the call was disconnected, Jiang Yuci took a breath and put down her phone.

The person in the hospital bed also woke up and stared at him timidly.

"I am an adult."

"What's your parents' phone number? Or I can take you home."

“I…have nowhere to go.” Ruan Li lowered her head, her eyes fixed on her diary.

At this moment, Ruan Li was so envious of the girl in this diary, who was being thought of, missed, and loved.

As for herself, she had no family, no place to live, and no one remembered her.

Except for the person in front of you.

"How much money do you want? I'll give it to you," he asked.

Ruan Li looked up. "I'm not trying to extort money. They all say they don't know me. I can't find my family, and I can't go home. Only you remember my name. Have we known each other before?"

Jiang Yuci pursed her lips, clearly not believing her and not intending to play along.

"Did they give you the diary too?" Jiang Yuci reached out to take the diary, but Ruan Li held it tightly.

"I found these. Who are they?"

Jiang Yuci stared at her bewildered face. "Something that's been lost for ten years, and you just happened to find it? And then you just happened to appear in front of me?"

"Give me back my diary." Jiang Yuci didn't want to waste any more time playing along with her act.

Ruan Li looked at the person in front of her, as if she had grasped at the last straw, "As long as you help me, I will give it back to you."

Jiang Yuci remained indifferent, but even the slightest bit of pity she had felt for a child in desperation at the beginning was gone.
