Chapter 42 Selling Lingzhi
Song Zhili slept soundly through the night without any dreams. After washing up in the morning, she practiced a set of Baduanjin exercises in the courtyard before going to the kitchen to help Hu Cuicui make breakfast.
After finishing her meal, Song Zhili told Hu Cuicui that she was going to the back mountain to collect some herbs. She then went to the courtyard, picked up her basket, and headed towards the back mountain.
Song Qiqi originally wanted to go with her, but Song Zhili wanted to take out ginseng and lingzhi today, so she didn't take her along.
Upon arriving at the back mountain, Song Zhili first pretended to gather some herbs, and then she went to her and Song Fang's secret base.
She glanced around and, finding no one nearby, quickly slipped into her spatial dimension and took out the ginseng and lingzhi mushrooms, unpacking them.
Then she placed the two items at the bottom of her basket, covered them with some herbs as a cover, and after doing all this, she began to walk down the mountain.
When she got home, she saw Aunt Zhang, Zhao Shi, and Sun Taohua had already arrived. Hu Cuicui was making fish balls with them in the yard.
In a corner of the courtyard, Song Qiqi was playing with Zhao's two children, and Song Fang also came over with Aunt Zhang.
When she learned that her mother was coming to help them make fish balls, she volunteered to help as well, and she said she didn't need any reward.
Hu Cuicui didn't say anything. She knew that Song Fang and Song Zhili had a good relationship, so she simply let her come along.
"Hey, Da Ya, you're back. Honestly, when you needed help at your house, why didn't you call me over to help?"
When Song Fang saw Song Zhili return, she was initially happy to greet her. However, she then changed her expression, pouting and pretending to be angry.
Song Zhili knew she wasn't really angry, so she smiled and stepped forward. "Hehe, I knew you'd come even if I didn't tell you."
After she finished speaking to Song Fang, she greeted Aunt Zhang and nodded to Zhao Shi and Sun Taohua.
"Song Fang, you stay here and do your work. I'm going back to my room."
Song Zhili patted Song Fang on the shoulder, and she walked into the house with her basket on her back and put it down.
Afterwards, she went to the backyard to wash her hands, then found a chair and sat down next to Song Fang, making fish balls with them.
The group chatted and laughed as they worked in the courtyard. Everyone was very happy. After Heidan and his group brought the fish over, Song Zhili gave them copper coins. Heidan did not leave, but stayed to help Zhao Shi and the others make fish balls.
Around noon, Song Zhili got up, washed her hands, and went to the kitchen to cook. The aroma of the food quickly spread into the courtyard.
She cooked extra rice, and when the food was ready, Song Zhili asked everyone to stay for lunch so they could continue working in the afternoon.
At first, the group was a little embarrassed, but after being persuaded by Hu Cuicui and Song Zhili, they stayed. They were all surprised when they saw the food on the table.
Sun Taohua, in particular, gently tugged at Ji Qingqing's sleeve and whispered in her ear, "Qingqing, is the food you usually eat this good? There's even meat in it."
Actually, Song Zhili didn't cook too much meat. She just put some in the cabbage, steamed an egg custard, and made a big bowl of fish ball soup.
"Cousin, it's because my sister-in-law is so capable. When she earns money, she asks my husband to buy some meat. You should eat more later, look how thin you are."
As Ji Qingqing spoke, her eyes were filled with heartache. She remembered seeing Sun Taohua before, and she wasn't as thin as she is now.
Song Zhili's cooking was delicious, and the group enjoyed their meal immensely, especially Song Fang, who, after finishing one steamed bun, unceremoniously asked Song Zhili for another.
Seeing her rudeness, Zhang immediately said, "Da Ya, one cornbread is enough for Song Fang, don't give her any more."
Upon hearing Zhang's words, Song Fang realized that she might have gone too far. She reluctantly shut her mouth and quickly waved her hand at Song Zhili.
"Da Ya, that's enough, you don't need to get me any more."
Song Zhili acted as if she hadn't heard her. She stuffed a cornbread into her hand and said, "It's okay, eat it. You'll have the energy to work this afternoon if you're full."
Seeing the cornbread in her hand, Song Fang secretly glanced at Zhang Shi. Seeing that Zhang Shi didn't react, she put the cornbread in her mouth and took a bite.
"Mmm, it smells so good, hehe."
Everyone laughed when they heard her say that.
Everyone enjoyed their meal and then continued working in the courtyard until almost dark, when they finally finished making all the fish balls that Manager Xu had ordered.
Before they left that evening, Song Zhili paid each of them their wages.
She even gave some to Song Fang, who originally refused to accept anything but wanted to come and help.
However, Song Zhili told her that if she didn't want the wages, she wouldn't be allowed to come and help next time, so Song Fang had no choice but to accept the wages.
After they all left, Song Zhili returned to the kitchen to cook dinner. He Chengjing and Song Ziming would come back together for dinner at their house.
After dinner, Song Zhili found Song Zidong and told him that she would go to town with him the next day, and asked him to wait for her when he left.
Song Zidong readily agreed, and the group went back to their respective rooms to sleep.
Before going to sleep, Song Zhili entered the space and set an alarm on her phone.
The next day, when the alarm clock rang, she groggily turned it off, turned over, and went back to sleep.
Just as she was sleeping, she suddenly felt something was wrong, and she abruptly opened her eyes, sat up in bed, and became fully awake.
She rubbed her eyes, got up, changed her clothes, and went out of her room to fetch water to wash up.
Just as she finished packing and put her basket on her back, Song Zidong returned from outside, and then they rode together in Song Feng's oxcart to the town.
Upon arriving in town, Song Zhili parted ways with Song Zidong.
Song Zidong went to Jixiang Restaurant to deliver fish balls, while Song Zhili headed towards the only pharmacy in town.
Song Zhili arrived at the entrance of the pharmacy and went inside. She saw the shop assistant grinding herbs and gently tapped the counter with her hand.
"Excuse me, sir, do you buy Ganoderma lucidum here?"
Upon hearing the question, the shop assistant looked up, sized Song Zhili up and down, and then politely replied, "We do buy Ganoderma lucidum. May I take a look at it, young lady?"
Song Zhili nodded, took the basket off her back, took out the Ganoderma lucidum at the bottom, and handed it to the shopkeeper.
"Here you go."
