Horror games? Whatever, I'll die.

Chapter 16 Checking the Water Meter

Liang Zaibing had originally intended to make some kind of move, but after seeing the police uniform on the newcomer, she simply threw away the small dumbbell.

It wouldn't be good to be mistaken for assaulting a police officer.

He didn't even get a clear look at the policeman's face before his arm was twisted and he was slammed against the wardrobe, his knees locked from behind.

"Behave yourself." The young police officer's voice wasn't rough; instead, it had a jade-like quality. He deliberately lowered his voice as it came from behind his ear, and his breath sent a reflexive shiver down his spine.

The slightly bitter minty aroma gradually spread.

Liang Zaibing struggled symbolically for a moment, then exaggeratedly cried out, "Sir, I'm a law-abiding citizen!"

There was no response except for being pressed down even harder.

Liang Zaibing could even clearly feel the irritating metallic police badge and the tense, strained muscles.

The door had been locked from the inside at some point. Huang Fang was taken in by another policeman, looking completely bewildered. His eyes clearly asked, "Boss, what did you do wrong?"

I was going to ask you what you did wrong!

The officer who had restrained Liang Zaibing spoke first, "We received a tip from the public that the people in your dormitory are suspected of being involved in the recent serial murders."

A serial killer???

It's like being caught in a trap.

Which bastard made that false police report? Do you hate him that much?

Huang Fang was so frightened that he could barely speak. "Your Honor, I'm innocent! We have classes from 8 a.m. to 9 p.m. every day, and we just collapse into bed as soon as we get back to the dorm. How could we have time to do this?"

The young policeman almost couldn't hold back his laughter; his chest was pounding, but he managed to keep from chuckling.

Feeling the restraints loosen slightly, Liang Zaibing tried to turn her head and negotiate with the officer, "Officer, can you let me go first? Let's sit down and talk. I promise I won't run away."

A few seconds later, the police officer released them both.

Only then was Liang Zaibing able to see the other person's face clearly.

At the age of twenty-five or twenty-six, his features were exquisite, and his fair skin made him look unlike a policeman. Although he had amorous peach blossom eyes, when he put on a stern face, he exuded a noble and dignified air.

The police officer next to Huang Fang was quite handsome, with a neat buzz cut and bulging muscles inside his police uniform.

Both officers took out their police badges from their breast pockets and showed them to them.

Jiang Qingjian.

Liang Zaibing glanced at it and memorized the name and police number.

The young police officer smiled at him, his eyes crinkling, "Why do you need my badge number? Do you want to report me for using excessive force?"

Caught off guard, Liang Zaibing gave an embarrassed smile. "How could that be? I was just thinking about how I could report any useful information to Officer Jiang as soon as I came up with it."

"Sorry, we didn't originally intend to control you, but when we heard you dawdling around hiding things and delaying opening the door, we thought you were planning to escape."

Liang Zaibing was both amused and exasperated. Could this be considered a case of being too clever for one's own good?

Jiang Qingjian didn't say anything more, and put away his smile to begin recounting the case.

“In recent years, a huge illegal group has suddenly emerged. Most of its members are mentally unstable, and some have even committed a number of tragedies.”

"And their most distinctive feature is that each member has a unique barcode tattoo."

Upon hearing this, Liang Zaibing's heart skipped a beat. He didn't doubt that some horror game players could do such a thing in real life, but the police arrived too quickly.

Even he himself didn't know he had a new tattoo, but the police, as if they had foreseen it, came knocking on his door the moment he left the game.

Either they have special equipment that can detect the new player's real-world location;

Alternatively, they might have an inside agent within the horror game, constantly monitoring newly appearing players and reporting their personal information to the real-world police to carry out operations.

If that's the case, then there's no need to worry so much.

Given the sheer number of horror game players, it's unlikely the authorities will completely ban them; they'll probably just use it as a scare tactic and continue to monitor and track them.

Having figured this out, Liang Zaibing stopped panicking and regained some of his usual carefree attitude.

Huang Fangke doesn't have such a big heart.

When Huang Fang heard the barcode, he paused for a second. Although he didn't say it aloud, his subconscious gaze falling on Liang Zaibing's lower back betrayed him completely.

Jiang Qingjian keenly caught his gaze and looked at Liang Zaibing as well, "Is there something on your waist?"

Liang Zaibing pretended to be nonchalant, lifting the hem of her hospital gown to reveal half a plaster, "I twisted my back."

Jiang Qingjian wasn't fooled. He gently pressed the spot where the plaster was applied with his right hand.

Liang Zaibing hissed in agreement.

"How did you get hurt?"

"I did it by moving bricks," Liang Zaibing blurted out, making it up immediately.

Jiang Qingjian neither confirmed nor denied, neither saying he believed nor disbelieved.

Feeling the hand on her lower back moving downwards, Liang Zaibing quickly stopped him, revealing a set of white teeth with a forced smile, "How about I pull it down a little more, so you can see my butt too?"

Jiang Qingjian paused on the plaster for a moment before withdrawing his hand, showing no intention of tearing it off.

"No need, but we must invite you to the bureau for tea."

Seeing the two policemen following Liang Zaibing like they were escorting him to an execution ground, Huang Fang became anxious. "Why are you taking him away? He hasn't done anything wrong!"

Liang Zaibing patted his shoulder, "Relax, I'm just going to assist with the investigation, I'll be back soon."

Huang Fangxi came up with the same script, "The wind howls, the Yi River is cold, the hero departs never to return," and with tears in his eyes, solemnly told him to take care.

Liang Zaibing was speechless.

The accompanying police officer burst out laughing as soon as he stepped outside, saying, "Your friend is quite interesting."

Liang Zaibing sincerely corrected him, "No need to be so polite, just call him an idiot."

Anyway, that's what we usually call him in the dorm.

Jiang Qingjian didn't laugh along, but gave him a faint glance. "We're going to the police station soon, aren't you nervous?"

Liang Zaibing remained cheerful and carefree, saying, "It's about police-community cooperation, why would I be nervous? I have nothing to hide."

"Watch less Hong Kong movies, you're always spouting gangster lines."

Liang Zaibing immediately saluted, "Yes, sir."

Well, this chuunibyou (middle school syndrome) is hopeless.

As Liang Zaibing walked out of the dormitory, she received a lot of stares.

The whispers were full of all sorts of things, from heroic acts to witnessing murders, and the most outrageous one was that he had been scammed by a nude chat scam and reported it to the police.

Liang Zaibing turned to Jiang Qingjian indignantly, "Damn it, officer, he's slandering me, are you going to arrest him or not?"

"Sorry, I didn't hear you clearly."

"..."

He finally understood that this guy surnamed Jiang was definitely here to mess with him.

Once inside the police car, Liang Zaibing watched as the car veered further and further off course, about to turn into the suburbs, and her heart began to pound with anxiety.

Why didn't they go to the city police station instead of driving to the remote countryside? Are these police officers imposters?

"We've arrived. Get off the bus."

Standing in front of the wooden house in the grove, Liang Zaibing's doubts deepened, and he even began to wonder if this was a new scam in northern Myanmar, where people impersonate police officers to take them to remote suburbs to kill them and harvest their organs.

But once he entered the cabin's basement, his doubts were completely dispelled.
