Chapter 13 Peng Jiahe's Transformation

Peng Jiahe pondered for a while, then looked at Yang Chu and said, "When do you think Lu Yuan will leave? Will he leave after I turn eighteen?"

Yang Chu shook his head and said, "I have no idea about that. I don't know what happened to you, so even if I wanted to guess, I wouldn't have any reason to."

Peng Jiahe thought it made sense, so she recounted in detail the grievances between her and Lu Yuan.

It's nothing more than that Lu Yuan became successful after becoming a Michelin three-star chef in the Ugly Country, but later fell from grace. After his downfall, he drank every day. Peng Jiahe's father got into a car accident while picking up Peng Hai. Peng Hai died, but Lu Yuan survived. Peng Hai entrusted his orphan to Lu Yuan.

Lu Yuan and Peng Jiahe returned this time for two reasons: one was to bring back Peng Hai's ashes, and the other was to find Peng Jiahe's grandmother.

After Peng Jiahe finished speaking, she asked Yang Chu, "After I turn eighteen, will Lu Yuan really abandon me?"

Yang Chu pondered for a moment, then shook his head and said, "It's impossible to ignore you, but there's a limit to how much you can 'manage'."

"what does it mean?"

"According to your description, Lu Yuan should indeed leave the country after you turn eighteen. I guess he wants to continue developing his career in the United States! As for you! He will also consider your opinion. If you want to go to the United States with him, he will take you with him. If you want to stay in the country, Lu Yuan will respect your opinion."

Why should I stay in China?

Yang Chu rolled her eyes at Peng Jiahe speechlessly and said, "You still have a mother and a grandmother! If you can't bear to leave them and want to stay in the country, Lu Yuan won't force you to leave."

Peng Jiahe nodded knowingly and said, "Yes, yes, and my grandma and my mom too!"

Peng Jiahe understood all this, and then looked at Yang Chu and asked, "Then why can't Lu Yuan stay?"

"I don't know about that. I'm not Lu Yuan. Besides, you saw what happened last night. Lu Yuan probably has some obsessions. It's hard to say whether he can stay."

"You mean Sister Gan Jing?"

Yang Chu nodded and said, "That's right! The problem lies with Gan Jing. If Gan Jing is with Lu Yuan, Lu Yuan might stay for her sake. Or maybe Gan Jing and Lu Yuan won't be able to face Jiang Haokun, and they'll go to the Ugly Country together."

Peng Jiahe, somewhat agitated, said, "How can it be so chaotic! Lu Yuan is going to leave no matter what, right?"

Yang Chu shrugged and said, "Yes! People are inherently fickle! Speaking of which, why are you so insistent on Lu Yuan staying?"

Peng Jiahe lowered his head, looking somewhat dejected, upon hearing Yang Chu's question.

After asking the question, Yang Chu realized he had asked a stupid one. A girl under eighteen years old had been living with her father in the Ugly Country for so many years, and suddenly her father was gone. She had also encountered a rather unreliable guardian. If she didn't hold on to this guardian soon, she might really become an orphan.

"Alright! Stop being sad. If Lu Yuan doesn't care about you, I will! Anyway, I'm going to settle down in Shanghai, so I won't miss your chopsticks. I'm all alone anyway, so it's not bad to stick together with you."

Peng Jiahe raised her eyes and looked at Yang Chu suspiciously, saying, "Are you really willing to take care of me?"

"Really! I may not be a billionaire, but I can still afford to support you."

Upon hearing Yang Chu's words, Peng Jiahe's lips curled up, and she said arrogantly, "Seeing how sincere you are, I'll reluctantly agree to stick together with you for warmth."

"Is it really that difficult? Maybe we should just forget about it!"

When Peng Jiahe heard Yang Chu say "forget it," he immediately became anxious.

"How can this be left unresolved! You've already promised to take care of me; you're a man, you have to keep your word."

"But you're forcing yourself, and I don't like forcing others."

"It wasn't very difficult, just a little bit."

"It's a little bit of a stretch, but it's still a stretch! Never mind! I hate forcing others the most."

Peng Jiahe realized that Director Yang was teasing her, and said irritably, "Fine, I won't force you! Honestly! I have my pride too, you know."

Yang Chu chuckled, picked up the fruit peel cup, clinked it against Peng Jiahe's, and said, "Then I wish us a pleasant time dining together!"

"What do you mean by 'working together'? We're talking about walking towards a bright future together."

"It's whatever you say!"

After finishing her fruit beer, Peng Jiahe let out a long sigh of relief, as if a huge weight had been lifted from her heart. She felt much more relaxed, and even her demeanor was completely different from before; she had returned to being a lively and cheerful eighteen-year-old girl.

As Yang Chu observed Peng Jiahe's transformation, he secretly thought, 'Since he's come to this world, why doesn't he try to change the fate of some people?'

Just as Peng Jiahe was happily enjoying his skewers, his phone suddenly rang.

Peng Jiahe picked up his phone and said to Yang Chu, "It's Sister Gan Jing calling!"

Yang Chu smiled but didn't say much before Peng Jiahe answered the phone.

"What's wrong, Sister Gan Jing?"

"Jiahe, where have you gone?"

"Yang Chu and I were eating barbecue by the roadside? What's wrong? Did something happen?"

"Nothing happened, you scared me to death! Lu Yuan and I went out today to find out where your grandma lives, and when we came back we didn't see you, so we thought something had happened to you!"

Upon hearing Gan Jing's explanation, Peng Jiahe said somewhat embarrassedly, "I'm sorry, Sister Gan Jing, I'm in a bad mood today, so I came to find Yang Chu."

"Okay! I'm glad you're alright, no need to apologize. When are you coming back?"

"Wait a moment!"

After finishing her conversation on the phone, Peng Jiahe looked at Yang Chu and asked, "When are we going back?"

"It's your decision. You can go back anytime."

Peng Jiahe nodded and said into the phone, "I'll go back now."

"Okay! I'll hang up then!"

After hanging up the phone, Peng Jiahe looked at Yang Chu, shrugged, and said, "Let's go, take me home!"

Yang Chu nodded, paid the bill, and then took a taxi to send Peng Jiahe to Gan Jing's place.

After getting into the car, Yang Chu sighed and said, "I thought I wouldn't have to take taxis anymore after buying a car, but I didn't expect that I would still have to take taxis after just buying a car today."

Peng Jiahe said with a smile, "It's your own fault for not clarifying the driver's license issue!"

Yang Chu sighed and looked at the driver, asking, "Sir, do I need to retake the driving test in China if I have a US driver's license?"

Upon hearing Yang Chu's question, the taxi driver thought for a moment, then shook his head and said, "I really don't know, but it seems that it's not as complicated as taking exams in China. You should go to the test center and ask them yourself!"
