Boonie Bears: Another World Fantasy
On the Eve of Chapter 80 (Part 2)
Winter seems to have arrived early in Shenzhen this year, and the cold weather after autumn caught people off guard.
After a hangover, An Han woke up feeling unwell and turned over, trying to grab the warmth beside her, but found nothing. When she opened her eyes, she found a letter and a key on her pillow.
An Han frowned, trying hard to recall what had happened last night. That argument that shouldn't have happened resurfaced in her mind.
"How much longer are you going to deceive me, An Han?" In her hazy memory, Peng Fei walked over and stood in the dark corner of the room, coldly questioning her. The curtains beside her fluttered wildly in the wind, making the whole room look messy.
"You told me you were going to the company dance, but instead you sneaked into the V Group building to steal things? And you almost got caught and used as a guinea pig?" Peng Fei's voice was filled with anger and disappointment. "And what's with this outfit of yours?"
An Han looked at Peng Fei, her heart sinking. She knew her hidden identity could no longer be concealed. She pulled off her mask, revealing a weary face, and walked up to him, attempting to explain, "There's a conspiracy behind this, Peng Fei! Sunset Group exchanged a majority stake for Zixing's separate listing qualification, and they even plan to release unrefined Zixing into Shenzhen's underground water storage system. This is a crime!"
"What does all this have to do with you? Are those sheriffs blind?" Peng Fei's face grew even darker as he retorted sharply, "You're wearing this outfit and playing a game of cat and mouse with a bunch of arrogant, delusional scientists, but have you ever considered that this is Yu Lian's plan all along? To lure you into the trap and then eliminate you like last time?"
An Han felt a sharp pain in her head; she hadn't expected Peng Fei to be so cold and ruthless.
“Are you just going to stand by and watch them do this? This is my father’s company, and people are destroying it bit by bit… I can’t just stand by and do nothing!” she said, her eyes wide and her voice trembling.
Seeing her resolute expression, Peng Fei struggled internally, but still blurted out those shameless words:
"What if your father never intended for you to take over all of this? What if he was just putting on a show for others?"
Peng Fei regretted his impulsive actions the moment he uttered those words.
"..."
An Han clenched her fists in disbelief, her eyes slightly red, tears glistening in them.
What Peng Fei said was simply a fact she had always refused to acknowledge.
Perhaps, she really should let go.
With the remaining wine in her glass, An Han swallowed the painkillers from the box.
Just then, the doorbell rang at the most inopportune moment, ringing incessantly and giving her a headache. She rolled over impatiently on the bed, then turned to lie face down, closing her eyes and waiting for Carl to open the door.
But then she suddenly remembered that Carl seemed to have gone out as well.
What a coincidence.
An Han irritably smoothed her hair, slowly sat up, and casually grabbed a morning robe from the bedside and draped it over herself.
When she got to the dining room, she realized there was no breakfast that morning—probably because Carl wasn't home. She sighed, and felt that the room seemed colder than usual.
An Han tightened the belt of her morning robe, quickened her pace toward the door, and reached out to open it without hesitation.
The man standing outside the door was Xie Jingxing, one of the shareholders of the board of directors. He leaned on his cane, his face showing obvious surprise, and looked An Han up and down: "Your place is really well hidden, Miss."
"It's passable, I suppose." An Han's tone was flat and concise; she really wasn't in the mood for small talk. "Have you looked at the information on the USB drive I gave you?"
“Of course, not a single word was missed.” He pulled the USB drive from his jacket pocket, his expression complex. “Xiaohan, I’m sorry for keeping this from you all this time. We already knew the chairman’s intentions. Selling Sunset’s shares was the idea of most of the board members…”
"How could this happen..." An Han became more and more frustrated as she listened. She leaned weakly against the side of the corridor, her eyes vacant.
"Sunset Group has indeed reached the edge of a precipice. Various departments have begun to reduce production capacity, and some are even going bankrupt. If we want to extend the group's lifespan, we have no other choice but to merge with V Group, which means being acquired by them," Xie Jingxing said, shaking his head helplessly.
Hearing this, An Han felt as if her heart had been struck a heavy blow, the pain excruciating. "Uncle Xie, this is a crime! Zi Xing will bring disaster to this place!"
However, faced with this situation, An Han knew she was powerless to change it. Despite her efforts, the result was unsatisfactory. Now, the outcome was decided; in this contest with the V Group, Sunset had indeed lost.
"Xiao Han, you've done very well. Don't worry about what others think of you." As he spoke, Xie Jingxing gently patted An Han's shoulder, a complex expression in his eyes.
An Han understood what that meant. In Xie Jingxing's eyes, there was only compromise with something that couldn't be undone. This saddened An Han.
……
When An Han finished dressing and was about to go out for a walk, she was surprised to find that the main entrance of the building was already "surrounded" by a crowd, although this was not the first or second time.
As soon as An Han stepped out of the building, the angry citizens and enthusiastic reporters immediately began to shout at her.
They waved placards and chanted slogans in protest against the security personnel. Television cameras were also on site, broadcasting the chaotic scene live to various channels.
"Ms. An Han!" a reporter from the Shenzhen Daily called out, "What does it feel like to see your company acquired by the V Group?"
“We want to know your opinion on this merger!” another reporter shouted.
"Will you continue as CEO? Or will V Corporation send someone to replace you?"
"Please tell us, Miss An Han!"
An Han looked at these people expressionlessly. Her gaze swept across the crowd and she saw many familiar faces, but she did not stop to greet them. Instead, she walked straight to the other side.
"Excuse me, miss," a parking attendant from the company said timidly, "they've completely blocked the road, and cars can't get out—"
"It's okay, I don't need a car." She left without lingering, pulled up the hood of her sweatshirt to cover herself, and walked towards the nearby streets.
The roar of a car engine reached her ears, and a small, exquisite convertible sports car drove up to An Han's vicinity and walked alongside her.
The car window slowly rolled down, and the person inside smiled at An Han.
"Hey beautiful, wanna hitch a ride?" Han Shaoyi said smugly, a bandage on his face.
An Han glanced at him, a strong sense of disgust rising within her. She tried to calm herself, but the coldness in her voice was hard to conceal: "Get out of here."
However, Han Shaoyi was not intimidated by her indifference. Instead, he grinned and approached her, continuing to pester her: "Really don't want to? It's so windy, it's so cold walking on the street. My car is very warm."
She didn't even bother to look at him again and continued walking forward on her own.
Unexpectedly, Han Shaoyi stepped on the gas and made a sharp turn, blocking An Han's path.
"Then I'll be frank. Our boss wants you to visit her and, by the way, discuss your future position with her," he said slowly, feigning nonchalance.
"By the way, Peng Fei is here too," he reminded her.
Upon hearing this, An Han's expression instantly turned ugly. Han Shaoyi noticed the change in An Han's expression and smiled.
"What did you do to him?" An Han asked anxiously.
Noticing that this was An Han's weakness, Han Shaoyi pressed his advantage, pressuring her further: "Don't worry, we didn't do anything bad, like kidnapping. He's our guest, and so are you. So, how about we do you the honor of discussing your future job?" He then gestured for her to get in the car.
An Han sighed heavily and reluctantly opened the car door.
"Cheer up, Xiaohan."
Han Shaoyi hummed a song, turned up the volume of the car's music a bit, and drove arrogantly toward the V Group building.
