Chapter 58 To Know When Rain Is Coming, Listen for the Clanging of the Sword (Part 1)
"Where is that deer girl now, Miss Zhao?" Chen Guangming's face showed an expression that said, "I have already told you so much information, and you still have doubts about me?"
Zhao Lin hesitated for a moment, then stammered, "There was a little accident... I... can't find her..."
"You lost her again? You know, last time she pried open the shackles I used to restrain her with just her bare hands; those shackles couldn't even be burned by a flame!" At this moment, Chen Guangming really didn't want to continue playing the role of a rogue cop in this situation, so he chose to ignore it. "Stop beating around the bush, Reporter Zhao. Do you think I'm going to tie you up hand and foot?"
"All I can confirm right now is that they're in this town... Sigh! It's all my fault. I went to visit my uncle a few days ago, and then I couldn't find him anywhere—" she said, filled with guilt and self-reproach.
"What are you waiting for?" In the blink of an eye, he strode forward, pushed open the car door, and nimbly got into the driver's seat. Then, he skillfully started the car.
"What are you trying to do?" Upon seeing this, Zhao Lin's mind immediately went on high alert.
"There's no time to lose, of course we need to find someone right away!" he replied succinctly.
A deafening roar of engines echoed through the sky as a helicopter painted in military green hovered like a giant dragonfly over the remote town. Such a scene was extremely rare for this peaceful town.
"Why did you do this? This is a violation of your duty!" Zhao Lin stared at the police officer in front of her, who had changed so much compared to a few days ago, and a wave of emotion surged in her heart.
“If it’s really as reported on TV, and those deer people are indeed capable of razing the entire area to the ground…” He paused slightly, as if recalling something from the past. “Then why don’t we take the initiative and try to seize some opportunities? And what if the military really captures her, and the person who made the statement goes back on their word?”
Zhao Lin frowned deeply. She knew things were becoming increasingly complicated and dangerous, but she also understood that Chen Guangming's concerns were not unfounded. However, choosing either path seemed to bring unpredictable consequences.
"Team Leader Chen, there's a situation on Beida Street!" The walkie-talkie on the car seat suddenly roared.
Zhao Lin and Chen Guangming exchanged a glance, and the latter immediately stepped on the gas.
......
"Let's walk a little further," Sharp thought to himself. "Maybe we'll find a way out if we keep walking, and that way we can avoid them for a while."
"Hey!" A voice shouted loudly behind them, "Hey! You two! Don't move! Stand still!"
"Damn it! Run!" Abu glanced back and shouted anxiously. Hearing this, Sharp grabbed Naya's hand and sprinted away. The agents in hot pursuit kept shouting urgently. As Sharp ran, he silently prayed that the agents hadn't received authorization to use lethal force.
"stop!!"
Just as they were about to reach the end of the alley, another black SUV suddenly appeared on the roadside, blocking their path. Immediately afterward, a group of agents in suits and soldiers in bulletproof vests rushed out of the vehicle, brandishing automatic weapons. They quickly pounced on Naya.
"Get down! Get down right now! Put your hands behind your back and cover your head!"
No matter how hard you struggle, it will be in vain.
Abu ultimately failed to escape the pursuit of those burly agents. It was tightly gripped by these hulking men, who mercilessly grabbed the scruff of its neck, attempting to roughly shove it into the trunk of a car.
Meanwhile, poor Sharp was ruthlessly pressed down on the filthy sidewalk, surrounded by a group of menacing people. In the blink of an eye, his wrists were firmly handcuffed, and he was roughly dragged to his feet and slowly pulled toward the waiting car. Just then, a familiar face appeared before him.
This man was the same young entrepreneur who had claimed to be a "genius" that he had seen while lying in his hospital bed flipping through a magazine. He swaggered forward with a smug look on his face, lightly pushed up his round-rimmed glasses, and then looked down at Sharp with an air of superiority.
Then, he turned his greedy gaze to Naya, who was cornered against the wall, and couldn't help but laugh, "Haha, it seems she wasn't lying. You really are still alive." At this moment, Wei's face, which had been listless due to exhaustion, vanished instantly upon seeing Naya, replaced by undisguised excitement and joy. His gaze at Naya seemed to want to devour her whole; his burning gaze was almost scalding.
"Finally found the real deal—you guys better be gentle! She's more valuable than any of us," he shouted at the soldiers.
"Hello, I think we've met before, haven't we?" Wei's voice was icy, sending chills down one's spine. His eyes held a contemptuous and disdainful look, as if he were looking at prey about to be captured. "Unfortunately, those gentlemen you sent earlier seemed to have been rather incompetent, as you dealt with them so miserably..."
Will slowly strolled up to Sharp, who was being held captive. He looked at Sharp with a mocking expression, his eyes gleaming with shrewdness and calculation. He smiled slightly and gestured for the agents to release Sharp.
“Young man, I’m afraid I’ll have to trouble you to come with me. Only then will she behave.” Wei’s tone was calm, but it contained an undeniable authority. He seemed to have anticipated Sharp’s resistance, which was why he appeared so composed.
“You people… She’s not some puppet you can manipulate. You’ll pay a heavy price for your arrogance!” Sharp stared sharply at Will, his anger rising. He keenly noticed an astonishing energy brewing in Naya’s palm; the dazzling golden light seemed like an inexhaustible source of power, gradually devouring the surrounding space.
"And also..." His tone lightened slightly. He continued his tirade. "She's really angry right now, you'd better stand back."
Hearing this, Wei turned around curiously. He saw that Naya had already taken off her outer garment, revealing the magnificent armor that was already poised for battle. She stood tall and straight, exuding an unparalleled majesty, like a warrior about to go into battle. She was intently searching for the power within her body.
That powerful force.
The aura emanating from the golden antlers surged within her body like a raging torrent. Naya closed her eyes tightly, adjusted her breathing, and concentrated all her energy on this force, as if to break through all constraints and reveal its true power.
"boom!"
In the bright sky, lightning struck down with a thunderous roar!
……
"That's it!"
Zhao Lin was startled by the sudden, deafening roar, which seemed to come from the heavens. Instinctively, she covered her ears tightly with one hand, while her other hand trembled as she pointed towards the street not far ahead. At that moment, the once bustling street was in complete chaos, with people fleeing in panic as if something terrifying was chasing them.
Amidst this chaos, the most striking feature was the area that had just been struck by lightning. From a distance, a large, charred crater could be seen in the ground. The surrounding buildings also suffered varying degrees of damage; shattered glass, collapsed walls, and a scene of utter devastation.
"Stop the car!" Realizing that what had happened was related to Sharp and his group, Zhao Lin slammed her hand on the seat. Before Chen Guangming could even stop the car, she opened the door and jumped out.
"Hey! Seriously!" He slammed the car aside, tossed it haphazardly on the side of the road, and chased after it.
Sharp flashed forward, lunging at the group of agents and nimbly snatching the immobile Abu from their grasp. He then rolled behind the car, narrowly escaping the sudden and fierce attack.
"No...don't come any closer!" Terrified screams echoed from all around.
Amidst billowing smoke, Naya held a long spear, its shaft shimmering with flowing golden light. Her armor sparkled with tiny sparks, radiating a powerful aura; she herself appeared completely transformed.
In the fierce air currents, Naya's high ponytail swayed in the wind, like an unyielding flag. Her eyes, usually so gentle, now looked unusually fierce, and her pupils were covered with a faint golden hue.
"Wow! So cool!" Abu exclaimed in Sharp's arms. "Is it just my imagination? Why does she seem taller and stronger?"
"Little Naya?" Faced with such an unfamiliar Naya, Sharp was also somewhat puzzled. He cautiously tried to call out to her. However, Naya only gave him a cold glance, as if she had completely become a different person.
"You... what kind of monster are you..." Not far away, several soldiers who hadn't had time to dodge were knocked away and struggled to their feet, firing wildly at Naya. But these attacks had no effect on Naya; she simply raised her wrist and deflected all the bullets.
Naya continued striding forward, her body slightly shifting with each step, easily dodging the oncoming bullets. Meanwhile, more and more soldiers, recovering from their initial shock, joined the firing. They had initially thought Naya was an easy target, confident they could take her down and eliminate her. However, they were completely wrong.
With each attack, Naya's understanding of how to cope with and absorb the impact deepened. She moved steadily forward, skillfully using her armor to withstand the fierce barrage of fire from the agents. No matter how many bullets were fired, they couldn't inflict any real damage on her; on the contrary, the bullets were easily destroyed the moment they touched her. Gradually, Naya's pace quickened, from a brisk walk to a jog, and finally to a full-speed sprint. Her figure moved nimbly through the hail of bullets, transforming into an unstoppable whirlwind.
Sharp watched helplessly as Naya sped away like a missile, crashing into the bunker vehicle blocking the soldiers' path at an astonishing speed and smashing it to pieces.
The soldiers began to retreat, hastily moving behind the empty delivery trucks, hoping they would provide some cover. However, Naya gave them no chance to catch their breath. She easily overturned truck after truck, leaving the soldiers completely exposed and without any cover.
Faced with such a fierce attack, the soldiers had no choice but to flee in disarray, trying their best to find a safe place to hide from Naya's pursuit, not knowing when they would be able to get rid of this terrifying deer tribesman.
"Sharp!!"
A loud roar exploded in the air, abruptly pulling Sharp, who had been standing there for a long time, back to reality. But before he could react, he felt as if he were being dragged by a huge force and was involuntarily pulled behind the phone booth next to him.
"Are you out of your mind?!" A crisp and loud voice echoed in his ears, making them ring.
"Ouch! It hurts!!" He groaned in pain, rubbing his shoulder where Zhao Lin had pinched him hard, while pleading, "Sister Lin, have mercy! Be gentle, be gentle..."
However, Zhao Lin didn't seem to have any intention of letting him off easily. She continued to scold him relentlessly, "I've only been gone for a few days, and you dare to run around behind my back!! Have your injuries healed yet?!" As she spoke, Zhao Lin's eyes gradually reddened, and tears welled up and slid down her fair cheeks like a burst dam.
"Wow, Sister Lin, Sister Lin, I know I was wrong, please don't cry—" Seeing this scene, Sharp's heart was filled with shock, and he froze completely, not even daring to breathe.
"Liar!" Zhao Lin shouted angrily, then, seemingly realizing she looked too pathetic and out of control, she turned her head away, not wanting others to see her vulnerable side. She forcefully wiped away the tears on her cheeks.
At the same time, Chen Guangming was standing not far away, waving his arms and shouting at Sharp, "Hey! You two get out of there right now! It's dangerous!"
A dark blue pickup truck crashed backwards onto the already crumpled police car. With the violent impact, countless fragments flew in all directions like bullets, sweeping towards the phone booth at incredible speed.
"Lie down!" Sharp didn't have time to think. He quickly hugged Zhao Lin and used all his strength to hold her tightly under his body.
Sharp shards of glass mercilessly sliced through his clothes on his back, tearing them apart instantly, and they tumbled to the side. At that moment, raging flames filled the surroundings, the scorching flames dancing like demons, engulfing everything in their burning embrace.
Faced with the ineffectiveness of gunfire, the soldiers resolutely decided to resort to more drastic measures—throwing grenades at her. These deadly devices, once detonated, would unleash an extremely powerful shockwave, enough to destroy a group of targets. However, Naya paid no heed to these grenades; as the explosions occurred and shrapnel flew everywhere, they failed to even cause the slightest damage to her incredibly sturdy armor.
She pushed aside the flames and walked toward Will, who was lying on the ground.
