Chapter 28 Fallen Angel
mercy.
power.
wisdom.
This is a miracle.
Peng Fei then went to the Shenzhen Museum and stood alone in front of the small display case.
The garment lying quietly inside the tempered glass symbolizes the vicissitudes of the deer tribe over thousands of years.
He didn't know who it once belonged to, in what form it was worn by its owner, or what it went through with that person.
The existence of the deer tribe is still too difficult for people today to understand.
Ancient records and scarce physical evidence have led experts to doubt whether such a race ever truly existed on Earth.
Peng Fei couldn't help but sigh when he thought of the deer people in movies and documentaries who could fly and dive into the earth.
However, from the moment he first saw the garment, he was inexplicably drawn to it, as if the garment was speaking to him, its gentle murmur transcending time and space to reach his ears.
"This is a fake. The real one has already been replaced."
The sudden voice snapped Peng Fei out of his reverie. He turned around to see who had struck up a conversation with him.
A tall woman appeared beside him at some point, standing side by side with him, gazing up at the deer-tribe royal robe.
She wore a red coat that seemed to only appear in fashion magazines, and her unique aura reminded Peng Fei of an ancient Egyptian queen. Her jet-black hair was meticulously styled into a bun, and the pearl necklace around her neck reflected the warm yellow light from the hall's ceiling. These features all pointed to her noble origins.
"How do you know?" Peng Fei questioned her statement. If she didn't know the inside story, how could she be so sure?
"I used to be a researcher of the Lost Deer Clan culture, but now that I'm not well-regarded in society, I've come here to work as a guide," she said with a touch of self-deprecation.
"But how many people are willing to stop and learn about this once incredibly glorious nation?"
Sensing the hidden meaning in her words, Peng Fei pressed further:
"Who are you working for, a woman like you?" He asked this deliberately, making his words sound somewhat aggressive, because this person was definitely not as simple as he seemed.
"Does it matter?"
She interrupted Peng Fei's attempt to probe further without hesitation. She was so unfathomable.
"The little boy just doesn't know how to be reserved; he always pretends to be a wolf in sheep's clothing."
Then, she sighed, turned around, and deliberately turned her back to Peng Fei. Half of her face, hidden by the long fur of her coat, was faintly visible.
"I know who you work for..."
“Right? Mr. Peng Fei?” she said deliberately, raising her voice.
Without pausing, she strode away and disappeared into the crowd as if she had never been there.
Peng Fei didn't understand why she called him by his name, and the short conversation ended in this strange way.
Peng Fei then touched the business card that had somehow been slipped into his shirt pocket.
"New Generation" Art Museum.
The back of the business card reads in neat handwriting:
"We cordially invite Ms. An Han to be our guest."
……
“Why have you fallen from heaven, you bright star, son of the morning? Why have you been cast down to the earth, you who have conquered the nations? You said in your heart, ‘I will ascend to the heavens; I will raise my throne above the stars of God; I will sit on the mountain of assembly, on the highest of the north. I will ascend above the highest clouds; I will make myself like the Most High.’ But you have fallen to Sheol, to the deepest depths of the pit.”
Isaiah
The solemn stone walls and tall buildings make this cemetery more like a castle, while the tall pointed windows and marble columns add to its grandeur.
Whenever the storm has passed, that's when she quietly reappears.
Holding a bouquet of flowers, An Han stepped across the withered lawn and arrived at the two somber tombstones. She had dreamt of this scene countless times, but actually being here still filled her with sorrow.
This is probably the last time she will come here as a good daughter.
Carl parked his car a short distance away and silently followed behind.
He had been taking meticulous care of this girl ever since she was adopted from the orphanage.
At that time, she was only eight years old and had no name. The An couple named her An Han.
The gloomy sky brought an atmosphere of solitude to the cemetery, and to her as well.
The hem of her coat swayed wildly in the wind. An Han was completely enveloped in shadow.
"Karl, why did Mom and Dad choose to be buried here?"
He had anticipated An Han's question, so he answered in a very casual tone:
"Usually I'm used to the hustle and bustle, so at the last minute I naturally want to go to a quiet place."
"What if I let you choose for me?"
He frowned, but understood what she meant in an instant.
“Miss, you are the apple of my eye, I will not be there for you in your final moments.”
“We’ve discussed that matter—” Karl’s attitude remained resolute, refusing to budge an inch.
"What the sunset needs is An Han, not..."
“A fallen angel,” Karl called the man.
An Han had her back to him, and no one saw the fleeting look of infatuation on her slightly tired face.
“Before Lucifer fell and became Satan, he was also an angel…”
"It seems you've read quite a few books on this subject," the old butler said, approaching her and earnestly advising her. "Miss, you must find another path."
“There is no other way,” An Han thought. “I don’t have one. There won’t be another.”
“I remember you told me before about your plans to retire,” he reminded me. “With Mr. Peng Fei.”
“I lied to you, Karl,” An Han said bitterly. She shifted uncomfortably, a strange expression on her face, as if she were struggling with something inside. “Peng Fei won’t accept me. My past experiences… no one will unconditionally forgive me.”
"What if he can accept it?" After much struggle, he finally asked. "What if one day he finds out all that, but still chooses you?"
“This is impossible! Karl! I have been defiled by those beasts! That’s an unchangeable fact!!” She turned around, ignoring his hint, and roared uncontrollably.
The feeling of her wound being ripped open was devastating; all her years of avoidance and selective amnesia had been for nothing.
“What if I told you he already knew?” Carl chose to lay out the facts, letting out a weary sigh, feeling a sense of relief.
What if I said I didn't tell you so as not to hurt you?
Hearing this, An Han's eyes widened in shock as she stared at Karl. She felt dizzy and her beliefs crumbled. She had tried so hard to hide all this from him to make Peng Fei believe she was doing well and capable of handling things on her own.
A cold anger rose within him. This was different from ordinary annoyance; it concerned An Han's private affair.
"Why did you tell him?" An Han questioned him.
“Because I didn’t want to see you go down a path of no return, Miss,” Carl said. “Because I considered you my own child. I swore to your parents that I would protect you… but I didn’t.”
"So you used Peng Fei as an excuse to stop me?" An Han was filled with grief and indignation. Even the person she trusted most was fabricating lies to deceive her...
To hell with all white lies!
An Han left without looking back.
