Boonie Bears: Another World Fantasy
Chapter 24 Arrival
The hot July wind, mixed with a touch of dryness, swept across the mountain path.
"It's so hot..."
Sharp, with his messy long hair, sat helplessly on the old bus heading to the town.
Luckily, he had a few dozen yuan in change with him when he transmigrated; otherwise, he would have had to rely on his memory of Bear Ridge to find his way there. The long and bumpy journey made him feel nauseous, and coupled with the fact that he hadn't eaten for days, he was practically starving.
How could a protagonist who transmigrates end up worse off than in the real world?
To be honest, Sharp does miss his messy little apartment.
Thinking back to when he finally managed to flag down the bus, and the driver gave him a strange look, staring at him and Naya hiding behind him, the awkward, frozen atmosphere was really triggering Sharp's social anxiety.
Good heavens, how am I, a penniless person, supposed to survive this pioneering life with a deer tribesman who knows absolutely nothing about this world?
"Cough cough."
Naya, who was standing to the side, covered her mouth and coughed lightly twice.
Looking at her slightly furrowed eyebrows, Sharp knew that the air quality here was on a completely different level from that of the Enchanted Forest.
Indeed, for a girl who had never set foot in such an environment before, this place was quite terrible.
Not far away, thick smoke billowed from the factory chimneys, swirling around the valley. Bear Ridge has now been transformed into a massive factory, filled with flea markets and repair shops.
The long drainage ditch smelled like rotting garbage, a thick stench filling her throat and making her eyes water. Vehicles and people squeezed through the heavy iron bridge toward the town.
“This place is so strange,” Naya whispered in Sharp’s ear.
He shrugged helplessly and explained the purpose of those "ugly things" to her one by one. There was no other way; after all, Naya had lived in the untouched Garden of Eden from beginning to end. Since she could no longer return to the Enchanted Forest, she had to accept this cultural shock. The same applied to Sharp, who was entering this world for the first time.
The bus slowly drove into the town of Bear Ridge, and the unique scenery on both sides of the street aroused Naya's curiosity.
Sharp had no interest in looking at any of this, because this wasn't a forest where you could just stay wherever you wanted. Given their financial situation, they couldn't even afford the cheapest hotel here. Besides, they had to constantly be wary of Anar Lefève, that terrifyingly powerful deer-tribe man; if a fight broke out here, he could probably tear down their foundations.
Right now, the most important thing is to find a job that can earn money so that we can make a living.
There was another problem that was giving him a headache.
How can we resolve Naya's identity issue?
As soon as she got out of the car, her attire, so out of place with the local area, seemed quite incongruous.
A car honked at Naya, who was standing there bewildered. Just as she was about to swerve, Sharp protectively pulled her aside.
"Don't get distracted, Na."
This was probably the first time I'd given her a nickname like this, but she nodded nonchalantly.
Does this count as acceptance?
She turned and watched the car drive away, a look of incomprehension on her face. A group of young people had gathered in front of the convenience store, and her passing by caused a stir; some even whistled at her.
"Little beauty, that's a nice dress."
Seeing them leering at Naya's white legs under her short skirt, Shapra urged her to hurry away.
"What's wrong, Sharp?" Naya asked, puzzled.
"Nothing much," he replied dismissively, unable to explain the reason behind it.
"I need to get you an outfit that isn't too conspicuous."
He wanted to prevent any perverts from trying to peek at her slender and graceful body. That's what he thought.
"Why are they dressed so warmly? Doesn't that make it inconvenient for fighting?" she asked Sharp after observing for a while.
“Uh…” Sharp was amused by her naivety and was thinking about how to give her the perfect answer.
“Not everyone has to fight, Xiao Na, including me,” he said, pointing to the elderly and young people by the roadside. “Now it’s a time of peace, everyone lives and works in peace, and the disputes of the past are gradually decreasing.”
She blinked, seemingly understanding but not quite.
Although the environment here isn't great, it's lively. Compared to the desolate fantasy forest, this place makes Naya feel more at ease, as she's no longer alone.
so good.
Is this the prosperous era that Grandpa talked about?
"Meow~"
A clean white kitten darted out and trotted past the two of them.
"It's a cat!" Naya suddenly shouted and ran towards the cat.
"Don't...don't run around!" Sharp said almost pleadingly, gently pulling her arm to lead her away from the crowded sidewalk.
"That's not the monkey head mushroom fairy."
……
Night fell once again.
When the plane wobbled and swayed as it landed on the runway, Zhao Lin, who had been asleep for almost four hours, finally woke up groggily.
The lush forest and the towering White Bear Mountain against the sky gave her a sense of belonging after wandering for so long.
As the vibrations from the plane's engines subsided, a soothing female voice began broadcasting some important information. Zhao Lin stretched, took down her meager luggage, and turned on her headphones to play the audio on repeat.
This time she came back not just for a vacation, but because she hoped to understand some things.
Sigh, it's an occupational hazard... I can't stay idle even when I'm not busy.
The warm yellow streetlights shone on the deserted roadside, calming the restlessness in the girl's heart. Shenzhen was indeed modern, and certainly a place where dreams could be realized, but it was too big, too big to see its true nature. This small town, seemingly still existing in the 80s and 90s, offered a sliver of solace to her wounded heart.
A cool evening breeze brushed against Zhao Lin's face, reminding her of playing with her neighbors on the street when she was a child. They would play tag tirelessly until it was completely dark.
I really miss those days.
The aroma of meat wafting from nearby instantly made Zhao Lin unable to move.
"Niu's Ramen?"
Because the airplane food was so bad, she barely ate anything the whole way.
I don't remember there being a noodle shop in this town.
Zhao Lin lifted the curtain and went inside, just to give it a try.
"Hello, one bowl of ramen—"
"Wife, wife, I'll kneel down for you, okay?"
A burly man with a thick beard was dragged out of the kitchen by the ear by a glamorous blonde woman. She treated Zhao Lin as if she were family.
"Well, you tycoon, you've been keeping such a big thing from me, haven't you?!"
"No... I just wanted to tell you later..."
Upon seeing that it was the couple's "crematorium," Zhao Lin, looking extremely embarrassed, could only shrink into a corner.
Am I here at the wrong time?
The atmosphere immediately took a 360-degree turn after the couple noticed Zhao Lin's presence.
"Ah... beautiful lady, we're already closed—"
He was only halfway through his sentence when the blonde woman forcefully shoved the large man aside, immediately interrupting him and continuing:
"Little sister, what would you like to eat?"
Zhao Lin was intimidated by her powerful aura, subconsciously shrank her neck, and weakly pointed to the ramen on the menu.
"Aren't you going to do it yet?" She raised her eyebrows and said to the big guy in a sarcastic tone.
Despite his seemingly burly appearance, he turned out to be henpecked. Zhao Lin was immediately intrigued by this contrast.
However, the more the proprietress looks, the more she seems like a villain.
I wonder who's more ruthless, her or An Han...
......
"A startling scene unfolded last night in the southern part of Bear Ridge: an unidentified golden object streaked across the sky above the town, leaving a scorched ring on the ground... Witnesses in multiple areas have reported seeing the same phenomenon—"
Zhao Lin, who was slurping her ramen with her head down, immediately looked up when she heard this and stared intently at the content on the hanging TV.
“These are all minor matters.” Madam Niu pouted and started calculating the accounts at the front desk. “Back in the day, when our Niu family was at its peak, we had everything from spaceships to priceless treasures.”
Seemingly thinking she was joking, Zhao Lin didn't take it seriously and replied:
"Actually, selling beef noodles here wouldn't be bad either."
“You’re right, sister,” she agreed.
"One should not be too greedy..."
Beside him, Niu Daheng nodded vigorously, thinking to himself: My wife has finally come to her senses.
"Oh, by the way, Old Niu, did you see that girl today?" Mrs. Niu casually asked, putting down her ledger. Because the memory was so vivid, she couldn't help but praise her.
"No, no, no, Madam, I don't look at any woman other than you..." How could Niu Daheng dare to answer such a potentially fatal question so casually?
"Oh, look how proud you are." She was already immune to this kind of talk countless times.
"It's that girl with the inverted triangle symbol drawn on her face." Mrs. Niu recalled it in her mind again; it was indeed that feature. "It's quite strange."
What? A triangle symbol?
The more Zhao Lin listened, the more uneasy she felt; the anonymous email once again assaulted her mind.
No one can prove that the Deer Clan has become extinct.
"Sister, did you see it clearly?" she asked tentatively, suppressing her inner unease.
"Of course, I've observed it carefully as well."
Mrs. Niu gestured at the air.
"You don't know, little sister, that girl is so beautiful."
After a brief description, Zhao Lin had a general understanding of her appearance.
He was about 1.7 meters tall, with dark brown hair tied in an intricate braid, delicate symbols on his face, and an animal skin draped over his shoulders...
This overheard information excited Zhao Lin. If she really did possess the bloodline of the Deer Clan, this discovery would definitely shock the entire world.
However, we cannot rule out the possibility that someone is deliberately imitating it...
But now at least we have a useful clue, don't we?
Zhao Lin fell into deep thought.
"Who are you anyway?"
