Boonie Bears: Another World Fantasy
Chapter 146 Life or death
In the cramped cabin temporarily cleared from the cargo ship, Salta and Sulo faced a man in military uniform sitting in a worn-out chair. The man twirled a pen incessantly in his hand, his gaze lingering on Salta for a few seconds.
"This meeting does not represent the military, so you two need not be wary at all."
Upon hearing this, Salta frowned and tugged at Sulo's sleeve, signaling her to tone down her hostility.
"What should I call you, sir?" Salta asked.
"Just call me Li Yu. I'm the captain of the aircraft carrier 'Zhenyue'." As he spoke, Li Yu took out a simple map that was neatly folded in his pocket and pushed it in front of the two of them.
"The situation in Shenzhen is not optimistic. Lower-level troops have already begun evacuation work within the city, but there is still a shortage of manpower. The land troops have not yet reached the designated locations, so we need to first send several mixed squads to airdrop into the hardest-hit areas within the city to evacuate as many remaining residents as possible." Li Yu drew several circles in the area closest to the wormhole, indicating that those were areas where people were still stranded.
“Salta, I heard that you participated in a search and rescue operation in White Bear Mountain that was no less significant than this incident, and you are also familiar with the location of the Shenzhen area. You should be able to serve as the captain of this mixed team, right?”
"Yes, sir." Salta accepted the urgent mission without hesitation. Immediately afterward, before he could even offer any explanation regarding Su Luo's fate, Li Yu had already given her instructions.
“Dr. Su Luo, the armed robots under your institute are not the first choice for this operation, but if the subsequent operation changes or fails, they may be the last resort.” He also circled the current location of Skyfire, tracing it along the coastline to the landing point near the coast of Shenzhen. “Therefore, considering that you are the only one who has attempted to operate it so far, you need to be on standby here at any time.”
Su Luo squeezed her legs together even tighter, her hands clasped together nervously, twisting and turning repeatedly.
"Yes...yes, sir."
"Time is of the essence, let's get going—" After finishing his explanation, Li Yu immediately stepped out of the cabin.
The aircraft carrier "Zhenyue".
On the dark deck, Sulo, wearing a large raincoat, stared at Salta, who had been fully armed in just a few minutes, feeling a mix of emotions, a truly unpleasant feeling.
"How could he treat you like this? Do you even know each other? He clearly said he just wanted you to come and check on things..." Su Luo muttered indignantly, her words coming out like a machine gun. Salta, who was already used to this kind of situation, quickly covered her chattering mouth and pulled her to a quiet corner of the nearby maintenance area.
“Since I’m on someone else’s ship, I have to follow orders. Besides, his rank is so much higher than mine, what can I do?” Salta explained softly, noticing that Sulo’s nose was getting increasingly red, as if tears were about to spill from it at any moment. He pulled the brim of her raincoat forward to cover her rain-soaked forehead.
"You should worry more about yourself. If this mission fails, I'll probably have to rely on you to rescue me, Dr. Evil." Salta suppressed a laugh, just like when the two of them first met.
"You idiot, can't you live without teasing me? I genuinely care about you! And I'm under a lot of pressure too!" Su Luo stomped her feet angrily, grabbed Salta's ear, and muttered scolding words under her breath.
Just then, the rotor blades of the transport helicopter in front of them began to spin, emitting a powerful roar.
Standing not far away, Su Luo bit her lip tightly. Her stubborn heart finally couldn't withstand the pressure of parting and slowly collapsed.
She took off her dripping glasses. Through her blurry vision, she waved to Salta's receding figure.
Salta, sitting by the cabin door, felt Sulo's gaze and nodded at her. Despite the deafening roar of the engines, Salta's voice pierced through the noise and reached Sulo's ears clearly:
"Su Luo, see you in Shenzhen!"
This vow was deeply imprinted in her heart.
......
Shenzhen, the temporary office building of the Daily News.
The sounds of battle came from overhead. At the same time, the massive wormhole began to tilt, and its rapidly spinning edges emitted distorted light, becoming visible to the naked eye.
Editor-in-Chief Wu tidied up the last things he had left in the office, glanced around the now empty floor, and sighed inwardly.
A light rain was falling outside the window. For some reason, Shenzhen, which had never been affected by unusual weather at sea before, was hit by a strong storm today. The gloomy weather, coupled with the approaching rain clouds, made it look like the end of the world.
Walking past rows of staff seats, Editor-in-Chief Wu had already decided on his next plan—to catch the evacuation flight to another city. But this long-time employee of the daily newspaper was quite reluctant to leave, always wanting to stay a little longer...
Until he actually saw a figure running out of breath appear at the door.
"Zhao Lin?"
Soaked to the bone by the rain, Zhao Lin leaned against the doorframe and looked up at Editor-in-Chief Wu, who was just about to leave.
"Editor-in-chief, where is the newspaper's plane?" She walked over quickly, looking completely anxious.
At the same time, several beams of golden light suddenly pierced through the wormhole outside, crashing violently to the ground and shaking the entire city.
"Why aren't you leaving yet? Don't tell me you're up to something again—"
Seeing the questioning look on the other person's face, Zhao Lin tossed her soaking wet hair, shook her head and said, "Editor-in-chief, this time it's not to get my information."
Editor-in-Chief Wu had intended to fabricate a few lies to distract her and get her to obediently go to the airport with him. But the young girl was stubborn and insisted on barging in regardless.
On "L Day," she was just like that, reckless and impulsive. She was running around trying to gather the materials she had painstakingly prepared over the past year, but she never expected that a disaster would destroy everything, including the future of the newspaper. She bore the pressure that the city placed on her, yet she still tried to give others courage and smiles.
She deserved a better life.
"Be careful, the future of the newspaper depends on you young people." Editor-in-Chief Wu didn't ask any more questions, and gave up on trying to dissuade her. He indicated that Zhao Lin's private plane was on the roof, where some of the maintenance team and pilots who hadn't yet evacuated were still.
"Thank you, editor-in-chief!" After saying that, Zhao Lin ran down the stairs and disappeared in a flash.
The room lights were deliberately dimmed.
An Han heard the rumble of helicopters all over the city, and the roar of special vehicles nearby. Her mind was already agitated, so she paid no attention to anything else, mechanically grabbing a few pieces of clothing and stuffing them into her already open suitcase. Her long, shapely legs swung back and forth on the wooden floor, seemingly trying to alleviate her immediate anxiety.
"Xiao Han, let's go." Xiao Ke, who was already all ready to go, urged her from next door, but An Han did not respond. Instead, she turned her gaze to the fireplace in the living room, which was only separated by a door.
"What are you thinking about now? If you don't leave soon, this hard-won plane ticket will be wasted—" Xiao Ke said, a little impatiently, looking at An Han's thoughtful expression.
After a long silence, An Han stood up and asked her a question that she might never understand in her life:
"Xiao Ke, are you scared?"
"..." The latter was somewhat puzzled by this abrupt question, but simply laughed it off.
"What are you talking about? Preserving your own life is more important than anything else, isn't it?"
“No… I mean…” An Han looked repeatedly at the emergency evacuation notice issued to the entire city of Shenzhen on her phone, “For me now, there is nothing I cannot lose.”
When Xiao Ke realized what she was about to do, a sense of surprise welled up inside her. But this feeling was exactly what Xiao Ke had guessed about her personality and behavior.
"You're crazy, An Han." Xiao Ke said with a contemptuous smile. Faced with her accusation, An Han chose to remain silent, not even glancing at Xiao Ke again, and simply walked past her.
Xiao Ke paused for a moment, staring at An Han's resolute figure as she walked towards the basement. After she had completely disappeared, Xiao Ke angrily threw the luggage she was carrying heavily onto the ground.
Without a doubt, the meticulously planned and self-organized evacuation plan has now failed.
"The Queen was right about you..." Xiao Ke covered her mouth with her hand, muttering to herself in disappointment. In an instant, the person's eyes turned extremely cold, as if the weak and obsequious woman had never existed.
"How dare you trissy cats challenge her?"
Then, Xiao Ke silently moved to the window, gazing at the wormhole that symbolized the imminent arrival of a new dynasty. She began to pray devoutly:
"The supreme king, long live the king!"
......
After successfully arriving in Deep City via the wormhole, Mus did not rush to issue orders. The recent crash had caused the surrounding area to collapse again, which conveniently cleared a space for his landing.
Following Naling and Sharp's trail, Mus discovered that they had fallen not far ahead.
Now it's time to make all these obstacles disappear.
As Mus watched, the severely injured Naling finally collapsed at Sharp's feet. Sharp, however, tightly gripped her hand, which had been cracked from repeatedly using her blood-stained robe to block attacks, and stood between Mus and her.
As he approached, the man from another world looked up. He raised Mavia's weapon again, ready to pounce.
“Look around here, death and destruction… Is there anything left that can truly protect you?” Mus asked.
“Now everyone knows your sins, Moose. You’re going to have a very difficult time from now on,” Sharp retorted.
The general of the Deer Clan shook his head and corrected him, "To bring about this revival, it wasn't just me. Countless members of the Deer Clan sacrificed themselves and suffered greatly, but it was all worth it."
He looked down at the unfamiliar land beneath his feet; this was his first time truly entering human society, but not as a guest.
"It's a pity that neither you nor the person next to you will see that day come—" He reached behind his back and took out the greatsword that had cut down countless souls from its sheath.
"Because you won't live to see that time."
Sharp lunged at Mus, cutting through the dust-splattered ruins. Mus also swiftly advanced, swinging his sword toward Sharp.
Come on, Mus.
Sharp roared.
