Chapter 134 The Red Triangle Arrives (Part 3)
Little girl, what are you thinking about?
Your heart is filled with hatred.
But what hurts me the most are those things I never mentioned to you.
......
"You become like the people you associate with..."
"Think carefully, how long has it been since you and she last had contact? Ten years? Or longer?"
Lefie knew that facing Naya now would not end well, so he temporarily chose to return Naya's personality to her.
"Let's wait and see. Your sister will tell you the shameful truth herself."
While Lefève's words are not to be believed, her sister's current actions have given these claims a degree of possibility.
The atmosphere between the two sisters plummeted as they stared at the syringe in Na Ling's hand.
“Come on…” Naya walked towards Naling without fear, even deliberately exposing her neck. “Anyway, I’m already a sinner.”
There's no use saying anything more now. With such a huge commotion, the wisest thing to do right now is to temporarily hide Naya away and make her disappear from the public eye for a while to quell the situation from further deterioration.
As the needle pierced her veins, the serum flowed into every corner of her body…
Finally, as Naya gradually calmed down and nestled quietly against her shoulder as before, Naling embraced this only blood relative she had in the world.
Naling looked around, fearing someone might suddenly break in and discover their whereabouts. Then, she moved her body to completely shield Naya, giving her maximum protection.
"No, you are by no means a sinner."
"You are my beloved sister forever."
......
Shenzhen City Hospital.
Zhao Lin, whose head was still wrapped in gauze, received the first letter of condolence since she woke up.
Using the light from the hospital room window, she opened the envelope, and a small key and a neatly folded letter fell out. Taking advantage of the fact that no one else was in the room, Zhao Lin immediately sat up in bed and quietly slipped the key into the pocket of her coat hanging on the headboard.
The handwriting on the letter paper was somewhat messy, and some of the writing was even connected into unfamiliar symbols, but this did not prevent Zhao Lin from understanding its meaning.
"Hello, reporter Zhao Lin—"
"I am very sorry to have dragged you into some of my clan's old conflicts. According to the plan, you and Sharp should have been safely delivered to Deep City, but I went my own way and recklessly stayed outside the city without regard for your safety, which ultimately led to disaster."
“Naya’s mind was controlled, Sharp was taken away by Mus, Deep City was severely damaged... There are too many things that needed to be prevented in advance, and I failed to do them.”
“Although staying by Naya’s side is the best option right now, Sharp has inherited the legacy of Mavia, the first Templar Knight of our race. If Mus figure out how to use it, the fall of Deep City will only be the beginning, and the Deer Clan will launch another war of aggression against humanity.”
“When I was fighting with the Mus faction in the suburban tribe, I gave my predecessor a necklace containing a tracker I had left behind during a mission. It could be used to locate Sharp’s position.”
"So I'm going to leave for a while and head to Mus's stronghold to take Sharp back."
"This key corresponds to a house I own in the southern part of Shenzhen. I've written the exact location at the end. I've settled Naya there and entrusted a few old friends to take care of her. If you have any questions, you can take some time to talk to her."
"Also, do not reveal her location to anyone, not even your closest friends or family."
"The sender of the letter is Xiao Junyao."
Sharp... Zhao Lin was in a daze. Before she could process the contents of the envelope, her thoughts were interrupted by the nurse who pushed open the door.
"The IV fluid has been changed, don't move around," the nurse emphasized.
Zhao Lin's gaze passed over the nurse and landed on the ward door—the corridor outside was crowded with injured people checking in.
Moose used her to get Sharp. If she had been calmer then and hadn't run away alone, would he not have succeeded?
Unconsciously, Zhao Lin's hands tightened around the quilt, almost twisting it into a pretzel.
Purple Star, V Group, Deer Clan.
An even bigger storm is coming...
"Nurse, how many days is the earliest I can be discharged?" Zhao Lin asked earnestly, tugging at the nurse's sleeve.
……
The deathly silence of the night made Shenzhen look no different from a ghost town that night.
Some time after sending the letter, Na Ling dimmed the lights in the room, making the already quiet space feel even more desolate.
In the kitchen, flames licked the bottom of the pot, and the milk gradually warmed, emitting a faint aroma.
Na Ling hadn't seen Xiao Yiyun in her dreams for a long time. The figure that was once deeply imprinted in her heart had now vanished like smoke, without even a goodbye.
No, perhaps there is no possibility of us ever seeing each other again.
Perhaps Sharp's appearance disturbed her peace of mind; ever since meeting him, she had always felt uneasy. Her memories of the past had become fragmented and blurry, making it difficult for her to piece them together completely.
How could someone who is already dead interfere in my life? She shook her head, dismissing the strange thought.
As Naya brought the milk into the room, she deliberately kept her distance from her. The head that had been peeking out from under the covers was pulled back in, with only a small corner showing.
"..."
Na Ling gently placed the milk on the cabinet next to her pillow, then hesitated.
Should we break down this barrier?
Naya, lying in the blanket, also held her breath, remaining completely still and silent.
"Drink it quickly, it'll get cold soon," Na Ling said, and prepared to leave.
"Are you still unwilling to explain?" Naya's faint voice, tinged with resentment and dissatisfaction, came from under the covers.
"Explain what?" Na Ling was getting annoyed by the question that had been bothering her all along, and her tone became a little impatient.
The blanket shifted, and Naya pulled down the part covering her face, revealing a tired expression.
"More than ten years ago, where did you go after leaving me and Grandpa? Grandpa was still calling your name on his deathbed..."
Upon hearing the word "Grandpa," Na Ling's heart trembled, and her breathing became rapid.
"I thought you were dead... I built a tombstone for you in Deer Valley. I never expected—"
"Is Lefie still on your mind?" Naling turned around and stepped in front of Naya. She tried to interrupt Naya, but failed.
“I never imagined my sister would abandon her family… When Mom and Dad died, did you shed a single tear for them?”
"..."
Na Ling kept her mouth shut, sat down in front of her, and gazed into her sister's eyes.
"Of course I do."
After hearing this, Naya coughed a few times and shook her head slightly: "I will not believe you anymore."
Sometime during the night, a dull badge appeared in front of Naya's bed, its edges slightly faded. It lay there on the sheets, becoming a conspicuous symbol. Naling, who displayed it, remained calm.
"At the end of the first month after the outbreak of the War of Heaven and Earth, the group of outsiders who claimed to have come to conduct an on-site inspection saw that the negotiations had failed. In order to forcibly take away some of our people and occupy our territory, they called in their army." Na Ling drew a circle on the bed sheet and began to explain.
"At that time, we saw for the first time that war could be fought like this. All our careful preparations in the early stages were completely rendered useless by their air power."
She remembered that in the minutes before she witnessed the entire town being bombed, flocks of birds flew away from the woods, animals screamed incessantly, and winged, iron monsters roared in the murky night sky.
A flashing traffic light is a final warning.
Piles of incendiary bombs were dropped, each one capable of burning dozens of people to a crisp. In less than half a minute, the entire forest was reduced to ashes.
"The royal family turned a blind eye and allowed this act of aggression to continue until Muss took command of the Knights Templar, at which point we began to resist one by one."
Naya stared silently at the lines Naya had drawn on the sheets to mark the enemy's attack.
"However, due to the differences in our development, our army was powerless to resist and had no choice but to agree to the conditions offered by the other side, ceding large tracts of land and handing over our compatriots..."
"Stop talking—" Naya buried her head deep in the pillow, escaping reality. Her hands kept wiping the simple topographical map that Na Ling had drawn on the bed sheet, trying to erase all the lines that could evoke painful memories.
She had lost the ability to judge right from wrong. She didn't know who to believe, nor was she clear about what choices she should make in the future.
Which side should I stand on?
"As the war entered its later stages, during a counter-offensive, we were ambushed by the enemy and forced into a desperate situation. During the breakout, I was unfortunately shot and fell into the river. Unexpectedly, fate smiled upon me, and I was swept away by the river to a very far place."
As she spoke, Yu Lian's image involuntarily appeared in her mind. Na Ling didn't know whether this was a blessing or a curse for her.
A sharp pain shot through her hand. Naya reached out and slammed her hand against Na Ling's outstretched palm, the force gradually diminishing.
"Get out, I don't want to see you..." Her voice was hoarse, and she choked up even more.
……
Even after turning off the room lights, it remained completely quiet inside through the door, with no sound to be heard.
Na Ling sat on the sofa for a while, picked up her coat from the table, and headed to her final destination for the day—an old bar infamous in the southern part of Shenzhen.
Holly's Tavern is located beneath a dilapidated alley, where drunken brawls frequently break out. Its secluded location makes it a popular spot for underground transactions and debt collection among various characters.
She didn't come here to drink.
As Na Ling stepped through the tavern's rickety door, her black attire caught the attention of several people inside.
After navigating around the smoky, chaotic tables, she arrived at the wooden bar. A middle-aged man with a protruding belly raised an eyebrow, sizing up Na Ling with obvious surprise.
"What brings you here, Miss Xiao?" he teased sarcastically.
“It’s just a formality. I didn’t ask you to pretend you don’t know me. Where’s what I asked for?” As she spoke, Na Ling pushed Xiao Yiyun’s badge, which served as proof of identity, in front of him.
"You're still so persistent, Miss Xiao. This reminds me of the time when I worked with you." The middle-aged man pulled out a handgun and the corresponding bullets that he had prepared beforehand from under the table.
This is practically just trying to fob her off.
"Is that all?" She twirled the gun in her hand a few times, then tossed it back dismissively. "Far from it, old man. You need to show some more sincerity."
"Sigh, things are tough lately with the crackdowns. Business is tough. Don't think I'm still just coasting along in the army!" The middle-aged man sighed, waving helplessly to his bodyguard, signaling him to quickly close the door. Then, he personally led Na Ling quickly towards the basement.
The basement reeked of a mixture of gun oil and machine oil. The middle-aged man reached out and pressed a switch on the wall, turning on the light in the small room and illuminating a jaw-dropping sight—an entire wall was covered with all sorts of brand-new firearms. From small, exquisite pistols suitable for assassinations to powerful armor-piercing machine guns that could be mounted on armored vehicles, the sheer variety was dazzling.
“Some of these are standard assault rifles that have just entered service. Be careful when using them… Hey! I didn’t tell you to take them all!” The middle-aged man watched helplessly as Na Ling ruthlessly picked through the weapons he treasured, and he couldn’t help but stomp his feet in frustration.
Na Ling skillfully rested the gun in her hand, then quickly glanced around before deftly removing the magazine and examining it carefully, her eyes revealing undisguised delight.
"Miss Xiao, why are you making such a fuss about selecting these guys? Just tell me, how many guns do you need?"
"Just going to rescue someone. As for how many guns I need... here, just pack up all the guns on this half-wall and take them with you!" With that, she stretched out her slender fingers and outlined the guns on half the wall.
"Fine, so you're trying to fleece me, huh?"
