Boonie Bears: Another World Fantasy
Chapter 130 Ashes and Blood (Part 2)
Several sharp thuds came from the living room, startling Xiao Ke awake. Her body instinctively reached to the side, wanting to instinctively hug the person who always made her feel safe. However, her embrace fell to empty air; her hand landed on its side.
"Sister Han?" Xiao Ke called softly. Turning her head, she tried to find An Han. However, the room was empty, with only a bed and a few simple pieces of furniture.
At that moment, her gaze was drawn to a glass cabinet extending from the wall. The cabinet door was open, and the items that had been inside were gone.
She wrapped her pajamas around herself and, using the dim light coming in from the living room, peeked out of the room. There stood An Han, strangely dressed, fiddling with something at a wooden table.
The tea set, which had been neatly arranged on the wooden table, was swept off its feet and scattered across the thick carpet. In its place sat a black box. An Han skillfully opened the safety lock on the box, and as the lid opened, chillingly revealing firearm parts inside.
"Well!"
Xiao Ke screamed in surprise. She instinctively covered her mouth with her hand, but it was too late. An Han, who was focused on assembling the gun, glanced towards the room after hearing the noise.
Their eyes met.
Without stopping her movements, An Han picked up her gun and went to the door.
“I’m going out for a bit, Xiao Ke, you stay here.” An Han’s expression was calm, as if she were just going out to buy groceries. After saying that, she didn’t even look at her again, casually dismissing her.
"What are you wearing?" Xiao Ke stared at the thick artificial armor on her body, as if it could keep her in place.
“Something’s happened in the city, the situation isn’t good, I’m going to check it out,” she explained briefly, not wanting to dwell on the topic any longer.
Xiao Ke wanted to say something more, but An Han had already pushed open the door, refusing her request to stay.
Air raid sirens blared throughout the city, and thick smoke billowed into the air. It wasn't until Xiao Ke heard the air raid siren that she realized something was wrong.
A long engine roared from the villa's entrance. An Han drove her sports car out of the garage at breakneck speed, then floored the accelerator. The brand-new Tesla Roadster sped off like a wild horse towards the Sunset Building.
……
"Butler Carl, those deer-men are on the roof of the building, we have to go!" The security captain in charge of the building's security made an urgent call to the maintenance workshop on the forty-first floor. Carl, who had been keeping an eye on Lefie's movements, answered the phone.
It wasn't until he saw someone with such terrifying abilities appear in the city that Karl realized his earlier worries were not unfounded.
"How's the evacuation going?" He reached for the elevator, but then withdrew his outstretched hand.
Let's use the emergency exit.
"Everything went smoothly... If nothing unexpected happens, the building should be cleared out in seven or eight minutes..."
No sooner had he finished speaking than the sturdy building began to tremble from top to bottom. Karl, who was going down the stairs, quickly grabbed the railing to steady himself.
Through the transparent partition in the stairwell, Carl saw that the area below the building was surrounded by trucks used to transport heavy weapons, armored vehicles blocked the entire block, and fighter jets roared overhead.
Just a few seconds later, the sound of a confrontation came from the top floor of the building. A news media helicopter crashed out of control, tearing off large sections of glass from the building, which then smashed into countless shards on the street.
Although he knew the building couldn't possibly collapse so easily all at once, for some reason, Carl unconsciously quickened his pace as he went downstairs.
From the initial design stage, the designers of the Sunset Tower fully considered the possibility of various extreme situations, such as high-altitude impacts. Through meticulous calculations and ingenious layout, the steel beams inside the building are arranged in a staggered and indestructible manner. Unless subjected to a powerful penetrating attack from above, this building is undoubtedly one of the most robust and stable structures among Shenzhen's many high-rise buildings.
More and more debris fell onto the roof, and the building began to shake more and more noticeably...
As Lefère engaged in aerial combat, Anhan drove her car into the city. The apocalyptic scene before her immediately left her speechless—the streets beneath towering buildings were filled with people fleeing in all directions. The roads were so congested that driving forward became extremely difficult, almost impossible.
An Han was extremely anxious. With one hand, she kept pressing the horn to disperse the crowd ahead. With the other hand, she frantically pulled her phone out of her pocket.
Answer it quickly... Carl!
Flames flickered overhead, and missiles, hampered by interference, flew erratically, occasionally striking the towering buildings on either side. An Han looked up and saw the Deer Clan, who had instigated this series of events, wreaking havoc in the air with unimaginable ferocity. She easily overturned the military transport plane that had just arrived; the behemoth tumbled through the air before crashing heavily to the ground, triggering yet another massive explosion.
Not only that, she was completely unfazed by the impacts, moving freely between the high-rise buildings. Each impact pierced through the adjacent structures; the seemingly sturdy skyscrapers were as fragile as building blocks before her, crumbling and collapsing into ruins.
"Damn it! Karl...where are you? Answer my call!" An Han's voice was already trembling with tears welling up in her eyes.
She had never felt so helpless.
"Everyone, get out of here quickly! Hurry up! Don't dawdle!" Inside the building, Carl directed the remaining employees on each floor, guiding them to evacuate via the emergency exits.
Carl was completely focused on the evacuation, ignoring his cell phone, which had been vibrating incessantly in his jacket pocket. Time was precious, and he dared not relax for a moment, carefully checking every corner to see if anyone was still lingering.
Only after confirming that everyone had entered the safe passage did Karl breathe a sigh of relief. Without pausing for a moment, he turned and hurriedly ran to the next level...
"Miss?"
The sound of hurried footsteps broke the silence of the stairwell. Carl ran while pulling his phone, which had been vibrating for who knows how long, from his pocket and pressing the answer button. He was now only a dozen or so floors away from the first floor.
"Karl! Where are you?! I'm coming to pick you up!" An Han's long-lost voice came from the other end of the phone, with the roar of an engine and various other noises in the background.
Just now, the last fighter jet responsible for protecting this area was also unfortunately shot down, which means they have lost the ability to retaliate.
"This is all our guards can do..." An Han thought in despair.
“No, miss, I’m still inside the building. Don’t come this way,” Carl said breathlessly.
The infantry fighting vehicle on the ground raised its cannon and fired at Lefie on the building. Shell casings poured out from the other side of the vehicle and hit the windshield of Anhan's car.
She jerked the steering wheel, executed a beautiful drift, regained control of the car, and in doing so, avoided a piece of building debris that had fallen from the sky.
She is only one block away from the Sunset Building.
"Like flies, never-ending!" Enraged, Lefie unleashed a violent shockwave from his entire body. His raging fury also ignited in Naya's eyes, burning fiercely like two supernovae.
The flowing energy flowed into Naya's eyes. As the energy accumulated, it finally burst forth at a certain moment, converging into a thick and dazzling beam of light.
Wherever the light passed, raging fires broke out indiscriminately. In just a few seconds, Sunset Tower and everything around it, including vehicles and pedestrians on the street, were all cut in half by the fierce flames, turning it into a fiery inferno.
The building's load-bearing columns finally gave way to the damaged structure, and it began to sway precariously.
"Karl! Karl!!" An Han, with a section of the car roof sheared off, tumbled out of the car and ran frantically toward the collapsing building.
Lefère bounced up from a low altitude and, in order to avoid the bombardment of the aerial gunships, plunged headfirst into the Sunset Building, crashing through countless floors before finally emerging from the top floor.
The Sunset Headquarters Building, known as the tallest building in Shenzhen, gradually collapsed in front of An Han, like the fall of a dynasty, tragic and devastating.
These were secondary to her.
The important thing is that the butler who watched her being adopted from the orphanage and later transformed into the pride of the family failed to successfully escape from that situation...
Her last remaining loved one was cruelly taken away by fate once again.
"Karl!!!" An Han's eyes were blurred with tears as she rushed inside, ignoring the dust and smoke kicked up by the building's collapse.
"Miss, please listen to me." Karl's voice came through the phone, broken and calm, just like his status and age.
"When your mother died, she gave me a key... and told me not to give it to you unless absolutely necessary. I've kept the key for you in the house in the suburbs, in a hidden compartment in the living room table—"
The stairwell walls crumbled, scattering countless fragments everywhere. The once-solid floor, losing its support, collapsed completely, forming a huge crater. Carl slumped in a corner, becoming the last guardian of this mega-corporation in the deep city.
"It has been my honor to watch you grow up, Miss."
The rising dust rushed into her nasal cavity and lungs, irritating her and causing her to cough. The phone in her hand was now just a static noise; nothing else remained.
The billowing dust had turned An Han's hair a lifeless gray-white. She straightened up, her gaze sweeping over the ruins before her. Several figures were busily working around the wreckage of the building, spontaneously launching rescue operations.
"Sister Xiaohan?" A childish greeting came through the hazy sound.
An Han's heart skipped a beat, and she blinked hard, trying to see the source of the sound. As the smoke and dust gradually dissipated, she finally saw the small figure—it was a child from the orphanage she had been sponsoring.
"How did you end up here..." An Han quickly wiped away the tears from the corners of her eyes, hurried forward and hugged him, her broken heart finding temporary solace.
"How's it going over there?"
“Everyone was scattered. The director took some people to the shelter, but I got lost. I only remembered this place... so I ran here.”
Hearing him say that, An Han hugged him even tighter, her whole body trembling.
"It's alright, I'll take you home."
She stood up and looked up at the sky with the rescue workers and others around her, watching Lefie soar among the clouds.
The deer-tribe high priest roared, tearing apart the spark-splattering aerial gunship and lunging at it, crashing to the ground with the massive wreckage. As they streaked across the Deep City like meteors, a blinding light enveloped the surroundings.
It also enveloped An Han.
Only now did she understand the true difference between humans and these deer-like beings. They were a species even more brutal and unreasonable than the "L-Sun."
The heart of a devil is unfathomable.
"I will make you pay the price, I swear..." An Han stared at the receding flames, her eyes bloodshot, Naya's image was firmly imprinted in her heart.
This also became the first target of her revenge later on.
