Boonie Bears: Another World Fantasy
Chapter 110 Plundering the Smile
"Abu, how many times have I told you, stop sneaking food!"
Na Ling watched helplessly as the chicken in the copper pot gradually dwindled, then turned her gaze to Abu, who was lying comfortably to the side licking his paws. The aroma of various mushrooms and tender chicken stewed together was indeed irresistible. Na Ling twisted her aching back, put down the soup spoon, and caught a glimpse of the figure who had been busy outside the door.
Sharp raised the axe with all his might, chopping the logs placed on the stake in half again and again. Sweat soaked his back, leaving dark water stains. His movements were so practiced that one couldn't help but wonder if it was really his first time doing something like this. Naling immediately became very interested in his actions. She walked to the steps of the wooden house and sat down, quietly watching Sharp's every move.
What's wrong with this kid? He hasn't said a word since just now... No, this is very abnormal.
Thinking this, Na Ling took off her coat, neatly tied it around her waist, and then walked towards Sharp.
"Abu, if you steal food again, I'll eat you up next time!" she said without turning her head. Sharp heard the voice, stopped what he was doing, and looked at her in confusion.
"Something on your mind? You've almost finished chopping all the timber this week." Na Ling also found an axe and started chopping at the wooden stake next to her.
Who knows if she's there to mock me or genuinely wants to be a caring older sister?
Sharp simply ignored her and continued working, his increasing force seemingly an expression of his frustration. Na Ling glanced at him thoughtfully a few times, then began to casually analyze the reasons.
"Where is Zhao Lin?" Na Ling asked, feigning composure. In truth, she knew perfectly well what was going on, but she wanted to give Sharp a chance to explain, and at the same time, to reveal the reason behind the matter.
Sharp replied with a blank look, "I made her run away..."
Na Ling almost burst out laughing, but she tried her best to maintain a serious expression. The relationships between these young people were truly baffling and gave her a headache.
Sharp fell silent again, clearly embarrassed and bewildered by his own behavior. Naling couldn't help but tell him, "I don't care what happened between you two, but don't do anything stupid. We're going into the city in a few days, and if you continue like this, you can only pray you don't get mistaken for homeless by the city management officers." She put her hands on her hips, pretending to be nonchalant as she reminded him.
With a pained expression, he gathered up all the remaining firewood, his face full of regret and self-reproach.
“I’m too ashamed to face her. She’s helped me so much, and I’ve been so self-centered… taking it all for granted…” His voice trailed off.
“I don’t really want to yell at you right now, but I find your obtuseness a bit odd. How on earth did my sister fall for you…” Na Ling muttered unhappily, then picked up a pile of firewood, turned around, and went back into the house. Sharp was left standing there, completely bewildered.
"Zhao Lin seems to like you a little, but you've been ignoring her, which has made her a little disappointed." These sudden words startled Sharp. He widened his eyes and looked towards the voice. Abu was far away, his small figure appearing and disappearing in the grass, like a mysterious and playful little elf.
Recalling Zhao Lin's assessment and speculation about Abu, Sharp's heart leaped into his throat. If what Zhao Lin said was true, then what exactly was Abu's purpose in coming here? And why did he deliberately approach them?
“You’ve come at just the right time, Abu. I was just looking for you.” Sharp tried to make his tone sound as indifferent as possible.
"Oh, oh, what do you want?" Abu made no attempt to hide anything and strolled out from the corner with an air of nonchalance.
"What did you say to Zhao Lin?" At this moment, Sharp was no longer simply questioning her, but interrogating her like a criminal, trying to make her confess her deep-seated sins.
“She told you everything? Then I won’t hide it anymore—” Abu even showed a hint of pleasure, seemingly unconcerned about being discovered. It tried to get closer to Sharp, but the latter deliberately kept its distance.
"Since you knew Naya could be reborn through that method, why didn't you say so sooner?" Sharp struggled to control his emotions, perhaps still clinging to the last shred of trust in Abu. "You could have at least told Naling—"
“Naling has always known, Sharp,” Abu said calmly. These words acted like an invisible barrier, instantly silencing Sharp and rendering his long-planned speech futile.
How could this be? Sharp felt as if he had been reduced to his original state, and all his previous efforts had been in vain.
"Do you think you're the only one who cares about her life or death, Sharp? Or... are you already prepared to take action? Are you ready to trade one life for another?" Abu tilted his head, his big eyes gleaming with an unknown light.
“Na Ling…why…” He was completely baffled, unable to understand why Na Ling would make such a decision. Was she choosing to stand by and do nothing? Or had she completely lost hope? Sharp kept turning back to look at the room, silently hoping that Na Ling would suddenly come out and give him a reasonable explanation in person.
"What do you mean, Abu? If there's a way, why not try it? Are you just going to watch Naya disappear bit by bit?!" In the final battle against Lefie, Sharp witnessed Naya following Mavia into the distance. That scene was deeply etched in his mind. Thinking of this, he became even more panicked. "No wonder you brought me here, Naya...you bunch of liars—"
Sharp staggered back two steps, his finger trembling as he pointed at Abu, his eyes flashing with rage. He was filled with intense hatred for this deliberate seduction, almost to the point of losing his mind.
However, a figure appeared in the doorway, interrupting their conversation. Naling stood there silently, her face expressionless. She listened to Sharp's accusations, then lit a cigarette and took a deep drag.
“This is my choice. Even if that method could really save her, it's not your turn, kid.” Na Ling’s voice seemed to be stating an unchangeable fact, realistic and unshakable.
"She's your sister! Na Ling, how can you be so heartless?" He couldn't understand why Na Ling was so cruel, able to watch her sister die.
"What's wrong with you? An outsider, meddling in my family affairs? Who do you think you are to Naya?" She exhaled a puff of smoke disdainfully, poking Sharp's chest repeatedly with her fingers, as if trying to pierce him with holes. "If it weren't for you, you blockhead, I wouldn't even give you a second glance, let alone come here with a burden like you to run around when my sister needs me the most." She unleashed a torrent of abuse, each word like a knife stabbing straight into Sharp's heart.
Sharp still didn't dare to talk back, and didn't even have the courage to look her in the eye.
“Naya never begged you to save her, did she? That’s right, that’s the Deer Clan’s mentality, that’s her inner awareness, that she was prepared to die at any moment! And what about your mentality? Weakness? Do you feel sorry for her?” Na Ling suddenly took a step forward, grabbed Sharp’s collar and shoved him to the ground.
Abu had never seen Na Ling so fierce before, and he was so shocked by her that he retreated repeatedly.
“You think she risked her life to help you get rid of Mus, but the reality is, it would have been too easy for Mus to catch you. He was just playing a game with you—you stupid fool who can’t see reality!” she suddenly shouted, her voice echoing through the forest like thunder.
Na Ling instinctively snapped the lit cigarette in two. As it broke, a burst of sparks flew from the butt before it went out. The spilled tobacco scattered everywhere, like a small storm.
"So you don't deserve her, Sharp. She's a warrior. And you're just a coward hiding in the shadows seeking safety."
Faced with the deep contempt in her expression, Sharp's pale lips trembled uncontrollably; he wanted to retort but couldn't utter a word. His self-esteem had been shattered and mercilessly thrown to the ground. Naling had effortlessly destroyed the illusions Sharp had always held onto for comfort.
"Um-"
A series of rapid breaths came from behind, and Xiao Wen suddenly appeared in everyone's sight. She was running with her face flushed and out of breath, but she was still holding Na Ling's hand tightly, gesturing with both hands to show the information she had just received.
"Speak slowly, Xiaowen, don't rush." Na Ling frowned, squatted down, and gently placed her hands on Xiaowen's shoulders, trying to calm her down.
“Mountain…” Xiaowen mumbled, pointing to the thick gray cloud drifting in the distance. As if in response to the message she brought, the ground beneath their feet suddenly trembled from afar, causing the group to lose their balance and stagger.
"Oh no, it's White Bear Mountain!" Abu exclaimed in alarm, quickly leaping onto the roof and cautiously looking around. He sniffed the surrounding air intently, but the dry air was thick with the suffocating smell of volcanic ash.
“White…White Bear Mountain has erupted—” it said, collapsing to the ground.
......
At the same time, inside the throne room of the Abyss.
“General, everything is ready. The situation is perfect, with the right time, place, and people.” The strategist, Wu, dressed in a dazzling gold-trimmed robe, spread his thin arms and bowed obsequiously before Mus, speaking eloquently.
"General, the army is ready to be assembled and awaits command." Ye Man'er changed into a heavy knight's armor, the battle marks on it bearing witness to how many years this adjutant, possessing absolute strength, had fought alongside Mus.
To the surprise of the Templar Knights present, Mus had already prepared his own knight's armor. Instead of sitting on the high throne, he came to the row of steel frames where the armor was placed and gazed at the traces left by his ancestors for a long time.
"Sir, give the order! Our flight squadron can't wait any longer!" Yi Tong reported with immense pride, his face radiating confidence. However, Wu silently stepped back, his malicious eyes fixed on Yi Tong, as if waiting for something.
"Didn't you say you would never come to participate in this mission, Minister of Research, Yitong?" Wu said.
Yitong returned Wu's gaze defiantly, knowing Wu wanted to mock her previous resistance to the mission. But now, she had completely changed her mind.
The deer people of today are vastly different from those of the past.
"Talking nonsense won't do you any good..." Yi Tong said arrogantly, then turned his head and cast his gaze at Ye Man'er standing to the side.
"I remember wearing them before was never this tight—" She touched her lower abdomen, feeling a little embarrassed.
Ye Man'er just smiled and let it go.
"Alston and Fanny have parachuted into the vicinity of the target location. Yeman and U, you two stay with me and guard the perimeter." Mus calmly put on his helmet and gave orders to his capable subordinates.
His deep-set eyes were hidden by shadows. Mus turned to examine the gleaming greatsword in his hand. His tall frame appeared even larger beneath the sharply defined armor.
"Yeviko, the task of dealing with that Lyleth creature is entrusted to you. Try to restrict its movement and prevent it from easily donning the power armor."
“Of course, General.” Yevkov smiled cruelly, his fingers dancing on the hilts of the twin swords at his waist.
“As for Sharp…” Mus’s gloomy gaze fell directly on Yi Tong, carrying a chilling sense of oppression, and he was pointing the finger at her.
"Alive? Or half-dead? Afterwards, can we dissect all the organs and donate them to the research department?" For Yi Tong, this was the most exciting topic. The thought of having a living human test subject made her tremble with excitement. She would cherish him dearly...
"Na Ling, oh Na Ling—" Mus murmured to himself, his tone filled with sorrow and helplessness for his unruly disciple. The greatsword that had severed the heads of countless enemies and even his own men had lost its imposing presence and obediently returned to its sheath.
"It seems that at this crucial moment, I still have to step in personally." Mus smiled slightly, as if the whole world was already under his control.
Tensions were high, and they couldn't wait any longer.
