Boonie Bears: Another World Fantasy
Chapter 106 Insurmountable (Part 2)
"Who should we take?" Sharp frowned, his doubts growing stronger. Zhao Lin's dreamlike voice sounded even more strange.
“Sharp…do you know V Group?” Zhao Lin asked tentatively.
Sharp's face instantly darkened. He knew, of course, who was behind this charade. It was they who had sent their men to relentlessly hunt him and Naya down. The memory of the brutal, almost unbearable pursuit he had endured in that small town filled Sharp with an indescribable rage.
If it weren't for these villains, Naya might never have suffered such misfortune...
“Of course I know,” Sharp replied.
“Naya’s body didn’t just disappear without a trace.” Zhao Lin bit her lip, finally deciding to tell Sharp this cruel truth. She couldn’t just turn a blind eye.
"She has always been in their hands, used as an experimental subject for research."
Upon hearing this, his face instantly turned as cold as frost. His previously calm expression was now filled with anger and self-reproach, as if a raging fire was burning within him. Zhao Lin's subsequent words were like a passing breeze to him, utterly meaningless.
A voice kept echoing in his mind: Why couldn't I protect her back then? Why did I let that demon succeed? Endless regret surged into his heart like a tide, almost drowning him.
"All along? How did you know all this?" These words, escaping Sharp's lips, were less a question and more a resentful and accusatory interrogation. At this moment, Sharp seemed like a completely different person, utterly unlike before.
"I..." Zhao Lin naturally wanted to refute him, but unfortunately, she was horrified to find that she couldn't come up with any excuse or pretext. Just as she was caught in an extreme internal struggle, a soft yet eerie meow suddenly rang out—
Following the sound, they saw a small, dark blue cat leisurely walking towards Sharp; it was Abu. Every step it took seemed so calm and composed. As Abu reached Sharp's feet, its eyes kept glancing in Zhao Lin's direction, and there seemed to be some deeper meaning hidden in its seemingly casual gaze.
So, are you planning to expose me directly, or will you rack your brains to come up with a lame excuse to defend yourself? Abu slowly licked his paws, patiently waiting for Zhao Lin to make a decision.
"Zhao Lin, how do you know these things?" Sharp asked again, taking a small step forward as if to confirm that everything Zhao Lin said was true.
"I had absolutely no idea! Sharp, I just got all this from..." Zhao Lin's emotions were slightly agitated. However, just as she was halfway through her sentence, she inadvertently caught a glimpse of the wicked smile on Abu's face, and instantly realized what had happened. It turned out she had been tricked by him.
Abu's smile grew increasingly arrogant, his smug expression seeming to say: Of course I knew you'd come to expose me... But, when you accuse me, will I obediently confess? Was there a third person who witnessed our conversation just now? Hahahaha...
Zhao Lin's heart sank to the bottom. She suddenly realized that from the moment Abu revealed the truth to her, whether she chose to remain silent and bury the secret forever, or decided to bravely reveal the truth and have the credibility of the statement questioned... she had fallen into a quagmire from which she could not extricate herself.
Zhao Lin, Zhao Lin, this is a true reflection of your tragic fate! Abu's words not long ago struck Zhao Lin's heart like a heavy hammer.
"That's right, Reporter Zhao. How exactly did you learn about this information? Did some insider whose identity cannot be disclosed reveal it to you?" Abu seized the opportunity to add fuel to the fire as the misunderstanding continued to escalate.
"You're just spouting nonsense!" she said through gritted teeth, her anger barely contained.
Looking at the two people in front of him who were like enemies and refused to give way, Sharp felt increasingly annoyed.
"Sharp, where are you going?" Seeing that the situation was about to get completely out of control, Zhao Lin had no choice but to follow closely behind Sharp, who was determined to leave.
"Zhao Lin, I've never seen you so disoriented before." Sharp muttered to himself as he walked quickly, but his gaze never lingered on her for even a moment.
"Did you even listen to what I said?" In a flash, she stood in front of Sharp, blocking his path.
"Don't you understand? There's a traitor among us..." She changed her tone and lowered her voice.
“Traitor?” Sharp repeated the word, which was extremely dangerous to all of them at the moment.
"Why do we always fall into pre-designed traps? Why can't we shake off those deer-tribe assassin knights? Don't you find it strange?" Zhao Lin's gaze turned to Abu, who was not far from them, and the implication in her eyes was very obvious.
"You mean Abu?" Remembering Abu's harmless appearance, Sharp found it hard to accept Zhao Lin's accusation. "What's the reason?"
"That's what it said, right when you and Naling left, it said it to my face!" Zhao Lin's eyes were incredibly firm, trying to convince him that everything she said was true. There was no way to avoid it.
"Zhao Lin, what's wrong with you today? Do you have a fever?" Sharp reached out to touch Zhao Lin's forehead to see if she was sick. However, Zhao Lin slapped his hand away, her eyes flashing with displeasure.
"Sharp! I'm not kidding—" Zhao Lin stomped her foot, looking very angry. She didn't understand why Sharp always used his not-so-funny humor regardless of the occasion.
"Is the news about Naya really true?" Sharp ignored Zhao Lin's emotions and fell into deep thought. He stroked his chin, considering his next move.
"Whether it's true or not, I'll go and check it out for you myself!" With that, Zhao Lin walked past Sharp in a huff, slinging her backpack over her shoulder without another word. It was as if she had decided to infiltrate the V Group.
"Oh... Reporter Zhao, please, don't do anything reckless..." Seeing her childish behavior, Sharp was instantly at a loss.
This is such a hassle!
As evening approached, the entire village was enveloped in peace. Every household lit a fire to cook, and wisps of white smoke rose gently from the simple chimneys on the rooftops.
Abu wagged its tail and strolled leisurely along the village path. Passing by the villagers, its gaze suddenly landed on a familiar figure. Naling was surrounded by a group of enthusiastic children.
What is Ah Ling doing?
Abu trotted over and wagged his tail to greet her. Naling looked up when she heard the voice, a smile spreading across her face.
“They are really interested in bows and arrows,” Naling said gently. She put down her bow and gently stroked Abu’s head to welcome him.
One by one, the children stared wide-eyed at the little beast they had never seen before, their eyes filled with wonder. They then began chattering excitedly, as if they had discovered some incredible treasure.
“I’ll teach you archery next time; it’s actually quite simple,” Naling said to them in the Deer Tribe language, her voice carrying a warmth that even Abu had never heard before.
"Ah Ling seems to really like children?" Abu asked, squatting down at her feet and tilting his head.
"It's just a habit." Na Ling managed to control her overflowing maternal instincts and reverted to her reserved demeanor.
"Ah Ling really wants to be a mother, doesn't she?" It covered its mouth, but its sharp white teeth were still impossible to hide.
Na Ling bent down, lifted it by the scruff of its neck, and gently placed it on her shoulder.
"What you say always leaves me with a sense of helplessness that I can't cope with." She sighed softly, her tone flat.
……
The corridor leading to the laboratory was always eerily quiet.
The walls of the corridor reeked of an unpleasant dampness, while the floor was as smooth as a mirror, without a speck of dust or debris. The light fixtures hanging from the ceiling emitted a stark white light.
The scientific team led by Yi Tong worked day and night in this underground space with only dim artificial light.
Even so, this place remains the most advanced in the entire Deer Clan.
The ventilation box was humming. Ye Man'er stopped in front of Yi Tong's personal office and frowned.
"This is absurd! Don't make me take that idiot on missions again!" Ye Weike's furious roar came from inside. He was venting his frustration on his senior.
Ye Man'er hesitated for a moment, then withdrew her hand from the doorknob.
"Experimental value? I could have captured Na Ling alive. If that idiot hadn't acted on her own and given her a chance to escape..." he shouted angrily, finally able to vent his pent-up anger.
"Capture alive? My dear young man, it seems you still misunderstand the difference in strength." Yi Tong's tone was tinged with disdain. She slammed the ceramic cup down on the table, making a crisp sound.
"How are we going to explain this to Mus? Anar Lefève has even gotten himself involved." Yevkov roared the last sentence as he walked towards the office door.
“You don’t need to worry about these things. I will explain everything to Mus.” Before Yitong could finish speaking, Yeviko had already opened the door and strode out.
Ye Man'er looked at her younger brother, her lips moved slightly as if she wanted to say something, but the latter simply ignored her, as if she didn't exist at all, and walked right past her.
Their shoulders bumped lightly, and Ye Man'er's body trembled slightly.
“Vico…” She took a few steps, then stopped, her voice lost in the air.
"Even you can't control him? Lieutenant Ye?" At this moment, Yi Tong's disdainful voice came from the room.
Ye Man'er's face turned pale. She bit her lip and did not answer.
“Your brother and you are really two extremes. Like this year’s reserve team, he has the unique arrogance and utter stupidity of the younger generation,” Yi Tong continued, showing no intention of giving Ye Man’er any face.
"Yitong, don't take those words to heart." She turned and went into her office, closing the door behind her. Leaning against the door, she felt utterly powerless at that moment.
“Lieutenant Ye…” Nathaniel, standing alone in front of Yi Tong’s desk, gave her a deer-like salute, feeling somewhat ashamed.
"You saw Naren? Looks like she didn't do anything to you." Yeman stared at Nathaniel. He slowly walked from his seat to the operating table across the table, carefully examining Anar Lefebvre lying motionless on it.
“Yes, I saw him, and the person the general was looking for.” Nathaniel was somewhat afraid to meet Yeman’s gaze; he lowered his head and buried it low.
"Do you remember the approximate location?" Ye Man'er's tone was firm and cold. Her hand gently stroked Lefie's slowly beating carotid artery, and a fierce glint flashed in her eyes.
At this point, the diligent adjutant could no longer tolerate the constant stream of news about failures.
"Hahahaha, you've really gone mad, Lieutenant Ye." Yi Tong suddenly burst into laughter, the sound echoing throughout the room. She put down the porcelain cup in her hand, the hot tea inside already drunk in one gulp. Then, Yi Tong slowly walked to Ye Man'er's side.
“My masterpiece hasn’t been truly tested yet, Lieutenant Ye. It’s probably not your turn to step in now, is it?” After saying that, Yi Tong turned her gaze back to the culture container that had already been emptied, and a strange smile appeared on her lips.
"What do you mean?" Ye Man'er asked, puzzled. Her keen observation had already revealed that the girl who looked exactly like Na Ling was gone.
What I'm trying to say is that 'she's' more impatient than any of us—
