I was transported from Lobotomy Corporation to another world.

Chapter 74 Yellow Plants and Dead Trees: 3

The old man wiped his mouth; although the portion was small, at least he had something in his stomach.

The old man looked at the thin, dark broadsword on the ground. He first tried to kick it, but it wouldn't budge...

The old man touched the blade; he felt a strange and eerie sensation.

The blade has yellow circles that look like eyes, and it seems to be covered with a layer of feathers; it even feels a little warm to the touch.

Looking at Reid again, it's clear that Reid is definitely not an ordinary demi-human; he's very likely a powerful individual.

Besides, I saved him, so he'd probably agree to do me a favor if I asked.

That way we can kill those bastards!

The bastard the old man was referring to is a very small part of humanity.

Just a few months ago, this place was a grassland, with lush trees, grass, and various other creatures such as giant rabbits.

But on that very day, more than 20 humans arrived. Everyone in the village initially thought they were just passing through.

Although relations between the human and demi-human races are somewhat strained, they are currently maintaining neutrality and have not actually engaged in combat.

Then I saw more than 20 villages being systematically raided by humans. They took all the valuables, and all the young men, women, and children were taken away.

Those who were captured were all enslaved; the status of slaves as a commodity in this world is rather ambiguous.

In some places, the sale of slaves is prohibited or even illegal! In other places, however, the sale of slaves is permitted, and some countries even make a living solely from the slave trade.

Compared to cities, although slavery also exists in cities, very few people engage in this profession.

After all, if the slave you sell injures his master, you could lose everything, even your underwear.

Getting back to the main point, most people resisted, but to no avail, because the enemy was better equipped.

We were no match for them. We even tried overwhelming them with sheer numbers, but one of their mages simply waved his staff and enveloped everyone in a spell.

However, this group did not kill them all; they captured some young demi-humans and looted all the valuables before leaving.

The villagers were heartbroken and thought they were safe, but they never expected that the villagers would come back the next day!

As time went on, the villagers learned the identities of these 20-plus people.

The six [slave hunters] were a despised profession in this area; they were the ones who captured demi-humans.

Six [bandit attackers], all six have bounties on their heads. No one knows what they went through; they committed no murder or arson, but they stole valuables and were responsible for intimidation and threats.

Five [Alchemists], a legitimate profession, joined the bandit raiders purely to find test subjects for their new potions; they were the ones who turned this once-lush meadow into a barren wasteland.

The four [mages] are not all mages who represent justice; they joined the group for money. They used magic to control the demi-humans here, making escape impossible.

Four wanted criminals joined the team after being told they had nowhere to go because of some illegal activities; they were responsible for patrolling.

Because of the presence of these 25 humans, the demi-humans in the village either starved to death, died of dehydration, or died of disease.

They tried to escape, but it was no use; they were caught again after running only halfway out of the village.

Some demi-humans even dress themselves up nicely in hopes of being captured and enslaved, just to survive.

The old man sighed. Thinking of all this, he felt an urge to fight them to the death. He then looked around at the scene of famine.

The old man felt his attempt to escape was somewhat ridiculous, because he figured he wouldn't even make it out... He might as well just take a knife and stab one of them to death.

But now the old man had a better solution: Reid, who was lying on the ground. He and Reid were both demi-humans, and the old man had saved Reid.

This person will surely help me get rid of those 25 beasts!

After figuring things out, the old man propped himself up and planned to return to the village to tell the other demi-humans about it.

Just as the old man was about to hurry towards the village, he smelled a strange odor.

"That's not right... The fire I lit last night should be burning by now... Why is there still a burnt smell..." the old man muttered to himself, bending over and carefully walking up a small slope.

The old man looked towards the village, his eyes widened in disbelief, and he collapsed to the ground.

"The village... the village is gone..." The old man stared wide-eyed at the village before him, now reduced to charcoal.

The wooden houses in the village were burned to charcoal, and the smell of burnt meat still lingered.

Some houses still had embers remaining, but all the houses had been burned to charcoal, and the corpses of several demi-humans could be vaguely seen lying on the ground.

[It turns out that the wolves weren't driven away by the dry grass I lit last night.]

[Instead, the village was burned down, which scared away the wolves...]

The old man stared in shock at the devastated village, his heart filled with grief, but even more so with anger.

The hope that had been rekindled was gone again... Since they are all dead, we must avenge them!

"There's another one on that slope! Don't let him get away! If this gets discovered, we're really dead!" A voice came from afar.

The old man was terrified, his heart pounding. The slope where he was located was easily visible, and now his position had been discovered!

The old man knew perfectly well that his old bones couldn't possibly outrun them, especially since they had a mage who could easily trap him with a single spell.

These 25 humans have already begun to eliminate them! These beasts saw that the demi-humans in the village were no longer of value, so they started slaughtering them!

The old man hurriedly and stumbled down the slope to Reed's side, shaking him vigorously.

"Wake up! Hey! Wake up! There's danger!" The old man tried to wake Reid.

No matter how much Reed was shaken, or even slapped several times by the old man, he remained completely still.

After nearly two minutes of attempts to wake him, Reed still showed no signs of waking up.

The old man's hearing, which was originally very poor, is now exceptionally clear; he can already hear footsteps.

The old man instinctively wanted to run, but gritted his teeth and stopped.

He picked up the wood ash and the few remaining bits of withered grass beside him and sprinkled them all over Reed.

He covered it with yellow soil from the ground, then turned his head away.

Sure enough, after I turned around, those 25 people appeared in front of me.

"I knew it! We needed to check carefully! Looks like we've caught one who slipped through the net!"

"Damn it, that old bastard! I counted the corpses more than ten times and there was still one missing! Today I'm going to torture him to a pulp!"

"With his rotten bones, he'd probably be dead in an instant! Hahahaha!"

"Oh my! Look at him! He smells like dirt! And he's all filthy! Is he planning to catch earthworms to eat?!"

"Don't you have any culture?! There aren't even earthworms in a place like this! Old man, stop digging, there aren't any! Hahaha!"

"Look at his eyes, they're watering, he must be scared! I told you! Those bunch of cow-eared beasts are all cowards!"

The old man was filthy, and his aged face was red with anger.

His hands clenched into fists, tears welling up from the anger he felt towards the people before him—or more accurately, from turning his grief into rage.

"You bunch of bastards... I'm going to fight you to the death!" the old man roared, taking a step forward to charge.

Meanwhile, Reed, who was lying on the ground behind him, twitched the index finger of his left hand.
