I was transported from Lobotomy Corporation to another world.

Chapter 38 [Escaping death and escaping it, accepting the courage to live]

Reed decided to go and take a look, and went with Anlisa.

The two found a horse-drawn carriage driver on the road, paid the fare, and got in. Anlisa told the driver to take them to a specific place.

[Perspective: Reina]

Rena adjusted her glasses, looking anxiously at Alice who was slowly retreating.

Alice's long black hair obscured her face, making it impossible to see clearly. She was standing on the edge of her rooftop, where there was no fence.

He held a small knife in his left hand, but the tip of the knife was pointing towards himself.

"Lise, listen to Reina, come here first. I know this is a big blow to you, but calm down first."

Alice didn't answer...

"Liz, this isn't your fault. You've already tried your best. Come over here and put the knife down."

Alice didn't answer...

Rena slowly approached. "Come here, don't cry. Let's calm down and talk it out together."

Although Alice didn't cry out, tears were streaming down her face.

Alice spoke, though her voice was hoarse, "I've lost my only family member in the world, can I really go on living...?"

"And actually, Sister Rena, I'm so tired of this. Death seems like a relief to me..."

"No!" Rena shouted, preparing to rush forward.

Alice's hands trembled as she gripped the knife, preparing to stab herself, but suddenly...

Anlisa's voice came from below, "Alice, put down the knife and calm down!"

Anlisa's voice caught Alice's attention, but Alice looked down.

She noticed a large crowd watching below, and some voices told Alice not to jump and tried to dissuade her.

Alice automatically blocked out these sounds because of her sadness, and only recovered when she heard a familiar voice.

I saw Anlisa's somewhat anxious expression.

Alice glanced around instinctively and spotted Reed most conspicuously.

Unlike the others who were at a loss, Red appeared as calm as before.

Alice saw the two familiar figures below and muttered, "Anlisa... Reid..."

Rena breathed a sigh of relief when she saw the knife in the other person's hand stop. "Alice! Anlisa is here too! There are so many people watching here, let's come down and talk!"

The crowd shouted, "Young lady, don't do anything foolish! Let's talk this over, don't be so ruthless!"

"Put down your knife! Death doesn't feel good! I almost died at the hands of a monster while on a mission!"

The crowd below tried to dissuade them, and Anlisa joined them.

There were many people below the house, but no one dared to go up and help Rena.

That's because Alice would take a few steps back whenever she saw someone trying to enter the house.

No one dared to go up, so only Rena and Alice were on the rooftop.

Rena tried to use magic to pull the dagger out of the other person's hand.

But Alice was holding on too tightly, and when she noticed, she would take a few steps back.

Even if Rena were a half-mage, she couldn't do it at all.

So the scene became a dead end. There were magicians in the crowd below, but Alice held a knife to her neck and dared not move at all.

Alice felt a surge of irritation upon hearing these people's attempts to dissuade her.

Alice couldn't take it anymore and shouted, "Shut up, all of you!"

The scene fell silent instantly...

With a sob in her voice, Ellie slowly said, "Why..."

"Why can't I die! Waaaaaah!"

"I really don't feel like living anymore! You bunch of people who claim you want me to live for my own good! You're the ones who are preventing me from being happy!"

"I just wanted to die peacefully! Why did you all come here! You've made it impossible for me to do it..."

“You understand nothing! Now you're stopping me from getting what I need! Where were you when I needed help?”

"I beg you! Stop talking and let me die!"

The scene fell silent; no one dared to speak.

The only sounds were birdsong in the sky and the clatter of hooves and wheels of passing carriages.

Rena felt bad after hearing this, her mouth opening and closing, unsure of what to say.

Just as Rena was about to offer another gentle word of advice, a familiar voice drowned her out.

"You're not the same person you were before." Everyone looked towards the direction from which the voice came from.

This surprised the crowd; it was exactly what Reed had said.

Some people who noticed they were getting too close to Reed subconsciously took a few steps back.

Alice had already decided that if she heard these voices again, she would be prepared to confront her own decision.

Alice stopped the knife that had already been inserted into her skin, because the voice was familiar.

Alice turned her head shakily to look at Reid, who was the most conspicuous figure.

Reed continued, "You don't actually want to die."

Upon hearing this, Alice, for some reason, immediately flew into a rage: "It's your problem! You're the ones stopping me! Stopping me from dying! And you're telling me I don't want to die!"

"You don't understand me at all, Redner!"

Reed remained calm and continued, "If you really wanted to die, you would have already stabbed yourself in the heart with that knife."

"Those who keep saying they want to die, surely they don't actually want to."

Or perhaps you really want to die, but you're afraid; you want to die but you're terrified.

"You're wondering where you'll go when you die, right..."

Alice's heart skipped a few beats, and she sobbed several times.

The somewhat hoarse and pitiful voice continued, "You're talking nonsense!"

"Alice, think of your grandma, she won't want you to die."

Upon hearing the word "grandmother," Alice felt a surge of hatred towards Reed. "You lied! You deceived me and bullied me, didn't you? If I were like this, my grandmother wouldn't let me suffer! She would have agreed to my death! She would have..."

Alice was about to continue speaking when Rhett's voice drowned her out.

"How many family members would truly want their children or grandchildren to die? I'm not good with words, and I don't know how to offer comforting advice."

"Live on, don't lose hope. Suicide is a stupid idea; it won't bring you peace or comfort, it will only cause you pain."

"To escape death and gain the courage to live."

Red really doesn't know how to comfort people, nor does he know how to offer advice.

But for some reason, these words just popped up.

Reed felt somewhat bewildered, and also realized that this was the most he had spoken all day.

"Waaaaah! Waaaaah! Why!"

"Why did you say all this?! Waaaaaah!"

Hearing Alice's loud sobs, everyone remembered that many had tried to dissuade her, but none of them had cried.

Alice listened to these words for a long time without feeling any urge to cry; she only felt despair, helplessness, and emptiness.

But upon hearing what Red said, her tears, which had already dried up, began to flow again.

"I'm so sorry, Reed! I didn't have that resolve..." Alice said, trembling, before clutching the knife and plunging it into her chest.

Rena screamed "No!" and with all her remaining magic, she managed to slightly deflect the dagger that was about to pierce her heart.

The knife, which was meant to pierce the heart, shifted its position and stabbed the chest instead.

The crowd gasped in panic. Alice stabbed herself in the chest again and fell backward.

And behind her was the great height from which she was about to fall; Alice fell straight backward.

As she fell, Alice, still somewhat conscious, had tears streaming down her face.

Can I finally die...? The wind is so strong... Will I die suddenly, or will I suffer for a while...?

Forget it, there's no point in thinking about it anymore, let's end it here...

Alice fell down

"boom!"

Alice, who had her eyes tightly closed, suddenly realized that the wind had disappeared, and she slightly opened her eyes.

I found myself suspended in mid-air, and suddenly realized that my clothes seemed to be frozen in place by something.

Alice looked behind her and saw a small pickaxe firmly embedded in her clothes and the wall of her house.

But the small pickaxe didn't last long and fell off.

Alice continued to fall instantly, this time with her eyes open.

Suddenly I felt a little scared, a little afraid that I would die.

Alice shed tears again, this time not from despair, but from death.

Alice was about to touch the ground when Reed burst through the crowd.

Reed nimbly weaved through the crowd and caught Alice just as she was about to hit the ground.

Alice was so frightened that she was momentarily blank, thinking she was really dead, but suddenly her body felt warm.

Alice, panting heavily, slowly came to her senses, looking at herself and then at what was behind her.

Alice felt a stinging sensation in her nose and her eyes reddened; her vacant gaze returned to normal.

With a slight tremor in his lips, he uttered...

“Brother Red…”

"I told you... it was a stupid idea... You're clearly afraid of dying, now you admit it, right?"
