[Perspective: Alice]

[Timeline: The first two days]

[This chapter is from Alice's perspective from the previous two days.]

Slowly opening his eyes, he propped himself up on his arms.

Alice glanced at her bedroom window. "It's morning..."

Alice got out of her small bed; the room was almost completely bare.

A small bed, a photo of her and her grandmother on the wall, and a wooden bamboo chair.

Alice put on her shoes, left the room, and skillfully went to the kitchen.

Take some rice from a bag in the corner of the kitchen, put some water in a pot, and wash the rice again.

Add water and rice to the pot, and then it's time to cook.

After adding firewood and letting it sit for a while, I ladled out some porridge in a bowl and picked up a plate of freshly stir-fried wild vegetables.

Upon entering Grandma's room, she heard the door open and instinctively looked towards it.

Grandma smiled and chuckled a few times, then reached out and touched her head.

"Grandma, I'm not a little kid anymore!"

"Grandma, how many times have you said it? No~" Alice subconsciously glanced at the scratches on her arm caused by the wood.

Alice hummed in agreement, put the wild vegetables into the porridge, and handed it to her grandmother.

Grandma praised me again, then picked up her chopsticks and ate.

I sat down and ate with my grandma. After a while, I finished eating.

"Grandma, I'm going to work now! Bye-bye!"

"Be safe!"

Alice left the house and ran towards a certain place.

Alice ran to a restaurant and then quickened her pace to go inside.

The restaurant owner frowned and walked over when he saw this. "Alice! Why didn't you wash the dishes properly yesterday?"

Alice had just finished running and was recovering when she heard her boss say this: "What? Boss, I didn't! I washed all the dishes I was supposed to wash yesterday!"

The boss flew into a rage and shoved Alice to the ground. "Damn it, you dare talk back and lie to me! I'm telling you! Those unfinished dishes you made yesterday! They'll be deducted from your salary!"

"Not only that, you dare to talk back to your boss! I'll deduct half of your salary again! Now get back to washing dishes! Wash two sets!"

Alice was pushed and fell to the ground, her already scratched arm was hit again by the fall, and the pain almost brought tears to her eyes.

Upon hearing her boss say he would deduct her wages, she scrambled to her feet and knelt on the ground, pleading, "Boss! I really finished washing! Please don't deduct my wages, there must be some mistake."

"I need money to treat my grandma's illness, please!"

The boss merely glanced at him with disdain and said, "What do I care if your old man lives or dies?! If you stay here, I'll keep deducting your wages!"

The boss's loud reprimand attracted the attention of the waiters and other employees in the store.

Everyone was whispering, but they all agreed that the boss was right, and they turned around and started talking quietly about Alice.

Alice wiped away the tears that were about to fall, gritted her teeth, stood up, and quickly went back to her post.

As Alice walked in, sure enough, a pile of bowls, chopsticks, and plates were all in one of her places.

Alice glanced at the plates from the other staff members; there wasn't just one dishwasher in the restaurant, there were several.

The other seats had very few bowls, chopsticks, and plates, and everyone was chatting and laughing.

I have absolutely no intention of working, which makes sense considering the small workload.

But Alice's workload can only be described as overwhelming.

Actually, everyone conspired to push their own dishes onto Alice, and then chatted as if nothing had happened.

Alice knew this wasn't just two portions; there were six or seven...

I get the lowest salary in the restaurant, even the boss doesn't like me and picks fights with me all the time, and I'm isolated by everyone else. Now everyone's plotting to screw me over.

Alice can assure you that she did wash all the dishes yesterday, meaning someone deliberately left dirty dishes at her workstation...

Alice walked over to the group of female workers who were still chatting. "Who among you left dirty dishes at my station yesterday?"

Alice's voice had no intimidating power whatsoever; instead, it sounded more like a question.

The female workers who were chatting together burst into laughter after hearing this.

"Hahaha! How would we know?"

"Don't blame us if you didn't finish washing! Kids without a mother, that's all they get."

"Tsk tsk tsk! He didn't do his job well, so he blames others, haha!"

"Well, you know why I'm called skinny! Hahahaha!"

"Calling him a thief is more like it! I'm afraid he'll steal my things!"

After a round of laughter from the crowd, a middle-aged woman stood up and shoved Alice with both hands.

Alice was pushed back several steps by this sudden attack.

Then his foot slipped, and the back of his head hit the plate that needed washing.

The pile of plates shook, and suddenly they all fell over.

Afterwards, the sound of bowls and chopsticks hitting the ground made the female workers all keep their distance.

Suddenly, someone burst in from outside. "What's going on? Why is it so noisy!" The person who walked in was the boss.

The boss had just walked in when he saw Alice lying on the ground, surrounded by broken bowls and chopsticks.

"What's going on?!" the boss roared angrily.

The female workers all pointed at Alice, who was lying on the ground.

Upon seeing this, the boss walked straight up to Alice without saying a word.

Alice was suddenly pulled up and slapped again after her hair was grabbed.

"Cough cough!"

The boss, completely oblivious to the fact that Alice's face was cut and bleeding from the plate, continued to shout angrily.

Alice was hit on the back of the head, a falling plate hit her, and she was scratched on the face.

Before I could even recover, my boss slapped me again, and then, in a daze, I heard these insults directed at me.

Finally, I was fired by my boss, who not only didn't pay me for those few days, but also made me pay for the bowls and chopsticks myself.

Alice's face was terrifyingly dark, her long hair covering her face. She stood there, not wanting to listen to her boss's scolding at all.

"You're fucking fired, get out!" Alice shuddered upon hearing this and wiped the blood from her face.

As I walked out of the restaurant, I was still being whispered about by my colleagues.

Everyone thinks it's their fault, no one understands them.

After Alice left the restaurant, she burst into tears in a secluded spot.

There was no one around, and Alice cried.

After a while, he wiped away his tears; his eyes were a little red.

He stood up unsteadily and returned home.

He composed himself outside the door, a smile appearing on his lips.

With hurried steps and a somewhat lively voice, she announced, "Grandma, I'm back!"

Grandma let out a loud sigh from inside the house, and the two chatted happily together.

But only Alice knew that she didn't actually want to chat.

I want some peace and quiet and don't want to chat right now, but Grandma will get suspicious if I do that.

Alice then cooked some more porridge and ate it with her grandmother.

Alice took out some herbs from a bag in the kitchen and brewed them into a medicinal soup for her grandmother.

Alice glanced at the herbs that were now gone, said goodbye to her grandmother, and went out again.

Alice started another job: putting up posters.

Fortunately, the work went smoothly this time, and it was completed by 6 PM.

Because I pasted the most stickers, the boss gave me 130 yuan.

Alice happily took the money, added it to the money she had brought with her, and went to the medical shop.

Alice entered the medical shop and went to the counter. "Doctor! I want to buy five [Norwegian Napier] plants."

"Doctor, please, just sell me the same price one last time! Otherwise, I really can't!" Alice's eyes reddened again as she pleaded with the doctor.

The doctor showed no pity whatsoever, instead waving his hand and saying, "If you don't have money, don't buy it! Get out! That's the price! I'm a businessman too, don't blame me for being heartless."

But Alice wouldn't leave and kept begging the doctor for a discount, which finally made the doctor angry.

The doctor slapped the front desk and strode out.

He pushed Alice out the door with his hands.

"No money? If you don't have money, why don't you sell yourself! You shameless hussy, you're ruining my business! And don't come here again!"

"You can die with your old bastard!"

Alice stared blankly at the medical shop, her eyes vacant as she walked home.

The lively chatter around her seemed completely out of place, and Alice noticed something on her eyebrows.

Alice wiped it with her hand

"So it was tears and blood mixed together..."

"What should I do if I run out of money... or maybe..."

"Sell it..."
