Quick Transmigration: Refusing to Be a Victim's Child
Chapter 70 The Apocalyptic Brat 11
"I want to wait until I become powerful enough to go back and take the house back."
“That house was built by my grandparents. It’s our home. We can’t let bad people take it away.”
Shao Linshen blinked his thick, fan-like eyelashes, obscuring the expression in his eyes. When he looked up again, he clenched his tiny, chubby fist and waved it in the air, feigning anger as he said:
“Bad Dad said that H City is right next to us. So when Shen Shen becomes super powerful in a few days, he will go home, defeat the bad guys, and drive them all away.”
Upon hearing this, Grandma Shao felt a burning sensation in her heart. She hugged her grandson and kept calling him her darling. Her eyes suddenly stung, as if tears were about to fall. When she noticed the child looking up at her, she wiped her eyes with the corner of her sleeve, sniffed, and lied that she had sand in her eyes.
Shao Linshen lightly picked at his fingernails, then lowered his head with a rare hint of guilt, no longer daring to look the old man in the eye.
"Shen Shen, are you sleepy? Come here, Grandma will hold you and help you sleep."
Grandma Shao thought the child wanted to sleep, so she reached out to pull him onto her lap.
"No, Grandma, I'm not sleepy."
Shao Linshen quickly waved his hand, blinked, and instantly composed himself, smiling to reveal two small dimples, and whispered:
"I was worried that Ahua would get stuffy in the bag, so I secretly opened some gaps to let it breathe."
As he spoke, Shao Linshen didn't forget to use his little finger to show how much a tiny bit was.
Seeing that he wasn't sleepy at all, Grandma Shao touched the child's head and back, and since he wasn't sweating, she let him play with Ahua.
The car drove for nearly two hours. When they arrived in H City, Grandma Shao was still asleep, snoring and not yet awake.
She's getting old, and with her eldest grandson not around, she hasn't had much rest lately. This morning, with such a heavy burden on her mind, she's been running around all day.
My body was already starting to give out.
Shao Linshen never took his hand off the old lady's arm the whole way, in order to use the spiritual energy he had absorbed to nourish her body.
"Bang-"
The car doors opened automatically, and the driver was already calling for passengers to get off.
Grandma Shao shuddered and finally opened her eyes from her sleep. The first thing she did was turn her head to look at where the child was. When she found that the child was still there, she finally breathed a sigh of relief.
"Shen Shen, next time Grandma falls asleep, remember to wake her up, okay?"
Grandma Shao carried a handbag in one hand and held the child's hand in the other, afraid that if she didn't keep an eye on him for a moment, the child would be snatched away again.
Even now, after leaving the station, her legs still felt weak.
Shao Linshen nodded obediently. Seeing the old lady preparing to find a hotel, he tugged at her sleeve, as if suddenly remembering something, and said:
"Grandma, I heard there's a really big and beautiful zoo in H City. Shen Shen has never been there. Can we go visit it together sometime?"
Grandma Shao paused in her act of hailing a taxi, thinking that it didn't matter where she went, she might as well take advantage of these two days to fulfill her eldest grandson's wish.
So, when the taxi arrived, she took her child to the hotel closest to the city zoo to check in.
To their surprise, the two searched for several hotels in the vicinity, only to find that they were either fully booked or would not be open for business in the near future.
Left with no other option, Grandma Shao simply took Shao Linshen to a residential building that was advertised for rent.
The house is located very close to the zoo, only two streets away, but because it is a converted old building, the interior facilities are rather basic.
The small one-bedroom apartment contained nothing but a bare wooden bed, a refrigerator, and air conditioning.
"One month's rent as deposit and three months' rent in advance, monthly rent is 1,200. If you think it's suitable, ma'am, we can sign the contract right away, and I can give you the key now."
The woman leading the way was not old. She was wearing a loose short-sleeved shirt and shorts, and soft-soled slippers. She had a businesslike demeanor. Judging from the large bunch of keys with stickers on them she was carrying, she was a landlady with a promising future.
Grandma Shao didn't haggle when she heard this. If the world really changes, she doesn't know if she'll even be able to use the money she has left.
So she simply signed a six-month contract, paid the rent, and then took her grandson to buy some daily necessities nearby.
"Grandma, I have all these things in my space."
Shao Lin was afraid that the old lady would forget that he had also taken away Shao's father's supplies, so he whispered a reminder not to buy too much, lest she attract the attention of someone with ulterior motives.
"Okay, Grandma understands. When we get back, you can show Grandma what's in that space."
Grandma Shao nodded in understanding. She only went to the mall to buy some temporary pots and pans and a quilt for emergencies, and then took the child to a clothing store to buy a few sets of clothes to change into.
Everything was ready, and it was just getting dark.
The two returned to their rented room with a bunch of stuff, both of them so tired that their calves were cramping.
Grandma Shao sat on her newly bought stool, touching the camera in her arms. She planned to take more photos to remember the occasion when she took her grandson to the zoo tomorrow.
"Wang Wang Wang-"
Ahua had been locked inside for half a day, and now that she saw her owner return, she jumped up and down with joy. She even cleverly pulled out two pairs of slippers, one big and one small, from a pile of plastic bags, held them up with her nose, and pushed them to Shaolin Shen and the others.
"Good job, sir."
Shao Lin patted its head and opened a can of dog food to feed it.
Seeing Ahua munching on the food in the bowl, I gestured with some surprise at the size of the dog.
To my surprise, the little guy had grown several inches taller than before I left home.
"Oh dear, even dogs are changing these days. Will Ah Hua turn into a monster someday?"
Grandma Shao had obviously noticed Ahua's difference and suddenly hesitated about going to the zoo the next morning. However, seeing her grandson's expectant look, she didn't bring it up.
He silently thought that he should go to the steel shop tomorrow and get a few polished steel bars for self-defense, as well as a watermelon knife and the like, just to be prepared.
Since there was nothing in the kitchen, the grandmother and grandson could only make do with the steamed dumplings they had prepared at noon that evening. However, because the space could keep the food warm, they were quite satisfied with their meal.
A dreamless night.
As dawn broke, Grandma Shao got up and began tidying up the house.
She's always been a diligent person, and even though she knows she won't be staying long while away from home, she still can't help but clean the house inside and out.
While I was at it, I washed the pots and pans I bought yesterday with detergent and then scalded them with hot water before I started cooking millet porridge for my grandson.
When Shao Linshen was woken up by the alarm clock, he groggily kicked off the covers and got up, and smelled a rich aroma of porridge in the room.
He sniffed and followed the scent into the kitchen like a puppy, where he saw his grandmother busily preparing various ingredients.
"Grandma, it smells so good! I'm so hungry."
Shao Lin patted his little belly and skillfully hugged the old lady's leg, acting coquettishly. When he looked up, he found that the old lady's originally neatly styled long braid had disappeared, leaving only a head of short hair close to her ears.
