Welcome to the Misogyny Game
Chapter 7 Welcome to the Misogyny Game (Part 1)
Wang Qige: "The company is on holiday recently. Are you free? Let's go out and have some fun."
An hour later, she called to invite me to video chat.
Liu Chaoque answered the call, and his voice, sounding somewhat muffled and indistinct, came through the microphone.
"Hey?"
"Are you still sleeping?" Wang Qige asked in surprise.
"Um, the screenwriter went crazy last night, demanding the draft be submitted by 5 AM this morning. I didn't fall asleep until 4 AM, I'm so sleepy~" Liu Chaoque's tone was aggrieved, angrily denouncing the screenwriter's inhumane behavior. Then, remembering why she had called, he asked, "Is there something you need now?"
"Oh, it's nothing. I just wanted to ask if you're free. I happen to be on vacation and would like to ask you to hang out."
"Where should we go?" Liu Chaoque perked up instantly, looking at Wang Qige on the other side of the screen with sparkling eyes.
"Ahem, ta-da." She pulled out a promotional poster, which turned out to be from an amusement park, featuring a huge Ferris wheel at the beginning.
"I thought you wanted to go to a cat cafe to pet cats, or go paragliding or hot air ballooning near your place." She didn't mention cosplay, mainly because she'd already been there last month.
"I'd like to try out the glass walkway over there. I've heard it's really thrilling; some people's legs go weak from fear," Liu Chaoque sincerely suggested.
"If you're looking for thrills, why not try a drop tower or a pirate ship, or a roller coaster? They're sure to get your adrenaline pumping and leave you incredibly excited."
“Then I’ll be cold from beginning to end, and most of my life will be gone.” Liu Chaoque was speechless and choked with emotion.
"So, do you want to go to the amusement park with me or not?!" Wang Qige exclaimed angrily.
“Go, go, it’s not that we don’t want to go, it’s just that if we go to a place to play, it’s too monotonous to only go to an amusement park.” Liu Chaoque said hesitantly, “Besides, there are so many amusement parks in the world, we don’t necessarily have to go to one just for an amusement park. For example, there’s a large Ferris wheel near our house.”
"Look at this picture, where is the amusement park?"
Reminded by Wang Qige, Liu Chaoque, who had been losing interest, carefully examined the promotional poster again. Wait a minute, this amusement park is called Fantawild, and if she remembered correctly, it's in Ningcheng.
“We didn’t have a chance to go during our four years of university. Aren’t you curious about whether it’s fun or not?” Wang Qige laughed. “I remember you wanted to go to Fantawild back then, but you gave up because it was too far from our school and you probably wouldn’t be able to come back in three days. Now you can make up for that regret.”
“Okay, let’s go then.” Liu Chaoque licked his gums. “I remember someone once asked to borrow my student card to get a discount on tickets there, but I, as a legitimate student, never got to use that discount. It’s really frustrating to think about.”
"You wouldn't be thinking of trying to use your expired student ID, would you?" Wang Qige was somewhat suspicious that she might actually have that idea. "But these two tickets are free for my employees, so you don't need to use your student ID for a discount."
"Why didn't you say so earlier? Come on, it's a fool not to take advantage of a good deal. Let's try all the games we can. I've wanted to ride that roller coaster for so long, I wonder if it will scare my soul out of me."
Seeing her somewhat incoherent state, Wang Qige knew she was excited. "Then it's settled, we'll book train tickets for tomorrow. When do you want to leave?"
The two hit it off immediately, and when they met at the Ningcheng train station the next day, Liu Chaoque couldn't help but sigh, "I feel like all the times I've gone out in the past month have been for fun."
"Isn't this good?" Wang Qige sighed. "You're practically rotting away at home. Do you want to grow little mushrooms?"
Liu Chaoque felt she had to make a statement: she didn't stay at home all day; she still needed to eat. Even though takeout was convenient, she didn't like it. Sometimes, she could just eat a handful of boiled green vegetables for three meals a day. Her main concern was not starving.
She has a fair complexion as if she hasn't been exposed to the sun for many years, but she looks to be in good shape and doesn't appear frail.
After all, her home is equipped with a complete set of running equipment. When she bought it, she almost broke her heart, but the effect was quite good.
"It's impossible for mushrooms to grow. If they did, the house would be destroyed." She treated her words with a very scientific attitude.
"Is your latest novel about future technology?" Wang Qige asked.
"How did you know?" She recently wrote a short story of fifty chapters, which almost made her nauseous from reading interstellar literature, as she studied the glorious achievements of her predecessors word by word.
"You wouldn't believe how many Hugo Award-winning novels I've read; I almost know them by heart." At this point, Liu Chaoque began to complain: "Now I understand how some writers feel when it takes ten years to complete a single book. Seriously, even though I submitted my manuscript yesterday, I felt it wasn't perfect and had the urge to revise it and submit it again, but ultimately, Xiao Qianqian stopped me." She looked as if she'd been drained of her life force by a fairy: "But maybe if I go out with you, I'll get some new inspiration."
Wang Qige tiptoed and patted her head. Her hair had been washed yesterday and still smelled of shampoo.
"Let's not think about it now that we've handed it in. We'll talk about it later. We're all here to have fun, so let's have some fun."
"Of course, I'm super happy right now!" Liu Chaoque shook her head, as if trying to clear her mind of all her chaotic thoughts. She pointed ahead and struck a very chuunibyou (adolescent delusions of grandeur) pose: "Heading to Fantawild, GO!"
"GO!"
Although the three-tiered flying chairs at the amusement park weren't particularly thrilling, Liu Chaoque kept having the dangerous thought that a machine malfunction would throw him off. He had no choice but to shift his attention to the people screaming wildly in front of him, or to the vendors selling their wares in the distance.
Even after I stopped and my feet touched the ground, I still felt a light, unreal sensation.
This made Wang Qige laugh: "Are we still going to ride the roller coaster? How about we ride the carousel instead?"
"Both of you sit down, let me catch my breath first," Liu Chaoque said sincerely.
This roller coaster really lives up to its name; people who haven't ridden it don't know it's actually pretty good...
Hearing the ear-piercing screams and feeling the 90-degree vertical drop, your body has landed, but your heart is still floating in the sky.
With the wind whistling past his ears, Liu Chaoque experienced the feeling of his soul leaving his body numbly, over and over again, yet he felt like he couldn't see the end. It turns out that when people are in extreme panic, they can't make a sound.
The sense of security that was more lasting and floating than that of a pirate ship allowed Liu Chaoque to escape the entrance of the roller coaster immediately. As if reborn, he cried tears of joy.
"I never want to play these games again!" Liu Chaoque said in a trembling voice.
“I told you you couldn’t take it, but you were still so stubborn. Now you know why…” Wang Qige helped her sit on a bench and handed her a bottle of water.
Liu Chaoque took it and wiped away his incontinent tears: "I was just curious, wasn't I? Who knew it would be so scary, and we still can't get out."
God knows how she endured those thirty-odd minutes. Fortunately, there was a buffer before the big sprint; she felt like she was about to suffocate from fright.
"So what do you want to play later?"
Liu Chaoque waved her hand: "Let's rest first, I'm a little dizzy." After saying that, her vision went black without warning, and she collapsed.
Before losing consciousness, Liu Chaoque seemed to hear Wang Qige's exclamation. She couldn't help but sigh that Wang Qige was probably one of the few unlucky people who had been knocked unconscious by the roller coaster.
Drop drop, drop drop.
There were many people talking around me, and the smell of disinfectant, unique to hospitals, filled my nostrils. Some were cursing, while others were haughtily snorting.
Liu Chaoque felt something was wrong; it couldn't be that her dizziness had caused her illness, could it?
When she regained consciousness, the first thing she saw when she opened her eyes was the familiar white curtains and the familiar man sitting next to her.
Liu Chaoque was completely flustered, especially when this person called out her name: "Smile?"
"?border town?"
