Chapter 50 Found it
He later confessed that he was a professional hitman, but he himself found it hard to believe that he would come to the military compound to kill someone in such a high-profile manner.
The familiar phone rang, and Liu Chaoque answered immediately. The voice on the other end was that of a middle-aged man: "Hello, Ms. Si, your home was attacked by criminals today, resulting in damage to some furniture. Fortunately, no one was home and no one was injured. When would you like to come to the Hangzhou Police Station to make a statement and confirm whether there was any financial loss?"
No, a terrorist attack? Liu Chaoque took off his phone, looked at it again, and wondered if it was a scam.
But this is ridiculous, it's obviously fake.
Perhaps aware of the other party's concerns, they sent another document, but this time with a tag from the Hangzhou Municipal Police Bureau.
Well, she was still quite worried because she couldn't get through to Mo Yun on the phone. What if it really was a terrorist attack? How scared Mo Yun must be! She wondered how Xiao Mao was doing now.
"What's wrong?" Mu Li looked at Liu Chaoque, who was lost in thought after finishing the phone call.
“I received a message from the police saying that our family had been attacked by terrorists, and they asked me to go back to check on the financial losses and give a statement,” Liu Chaoque recounted.
"Huh?" Mu Li blinked. "Really?" It wasn't that he believed it, but in China, this seemed strange no matter how you looked at it. Besides, their neighborhood was a military compound, and the police station was right across the street. How could they dare to do that?
Even the assassins hired by his relatives haven't dared to make a move. They don't even dare to approach the area, let alone make a fuss, let alone enter the military compound.
Last time, they were wiped out by Siman, and now they're almost gone, with hardly anyone left to follow them.
“I think it might be the problem with that black cat teacup,” Liu Chaoque said. “Otherwise, how could it be such a coincidence that everything happened on the same day? First, Sifeng went crazy, then Zhao Xiaomei was hit by a car, and now Moyun has an accident.”
"I reckon that teacup is probably broken." Destroying the furniture along with the teacup to avoid attracting attention—that's a clever plan.
It looks like only the shark ornament is left.
The two arrived at Sifeng's house. Although only a few days had passed, there hadn't been much change in Sifeng's house, but the people living there had gone mad.
Liu Chaoque stood in front of the glass tank, looking at the sea fish that were a little excited because they hadn't been fed for the past few days, and went to the refrigerator to defrost some fresh seafood that Sifeng had prepared.
Feeding the shrimp and the fish, Liu Chaoque was busy for a long time before he finally fed these ancestors.
She felt a bit tired. Muli had little interest in feeding the fish. Compared to feeding the fish, the fish that she could see but couldn't eat were like carrots tied to a donkey, something she really wanted to figure out.
The shark pendant they were looking for was a small ornament made of ceramic, which they might be able to find in Sifeng's room.
Sifeng's room was locked, so Muli had to transform into a cat and squeeze through the crack. This chubby cat could even fit through such a narrow gap; cats really are made of water.
As Liu Chaoque sighed, Mu Li got stuck.
"Stop making sarcastic remarks, pull me out!" Mu Li's voice came through the crack in the room. He kicked his legs, using all four limbs to pry open the door, but he couldn't get in or out.
Liu Chaoque tentatively pulled the person outside.
"No, push it in! I finally got my head in, otherwise all our efforts will be wasted," Mu Li refused.
"Alright, you stubborn cat," Liu Chaoque pushed Mu Li's bottom and shouted, "Suck in your stomach first!"
She pushed him in forcefully, and Mu Li let out a sharp scream: "Ouch, ouch, slower, slower!"
Liu Chaoque had no choice but to use his hands to support his stomach and slowly push it inward.
"I feel like I'm going in." Mu Li struggled to move his hind legs, and the two of them worked up a sweat. Finally, he went in!
Liu Chaoque looked at the dust marks on his hands and rubbed them together.
Mu Li, who was in the room, looked at her body, which was covered in black and white patches, and turned back into a human. She touched it and rubbed it on her face.
He quickly opened the door, let Liu Chaoque in, and rushed into the bathroom. Then Liu Chaoque heard a cry: "Ah!"
When the showerhead is turned on, the clean-loving cat feels like it's about to become a dirty cat!
Liu Chaoque couldn't help but sigh, "As expected of a big cat in the new era, it's not afraid of water at all."
"Siman, my clothes are dirty, can you find me some clothes?"
Liu Chaoque: "Sometimes I'm just too much of a germaphobe."
It's not that your fur is dirty, it has nothing to do with the clothes. She has a question: Mu Li's clothes were on her body, but after she turned into a cat, she didn't change them. Were they worn inside her cat fur like in Pleasant Goat? Just imagining that scene is hilarious.
Sifeng's family didn't have any men's clothes, and Liu Chaoque couldn't very well give Sifeng's clothes to Muli, so he had to summon Laba Zhou and have him knit a garment on the spot.
Wearing a fluffy sweatshirt, Mu Li said, "No, even though the air conditioning is on at home, it's 37°C outside!"
"You can wear it like this for now." Liu Chaoque thanked the Laba porridge and sent her back to the Food Continent before turning to Mu Li: "Why don't you go to the bathroom for a while, or turn back into a cat?"
Mu Li shook her head in refusal: "What's the difference between this and streaking?"
Liu Chaoque chuckled: "So your cat hair isn't your clothing?"
"No, at most they were open-crotch pants." Mu Li frowned, as if she was thinking of some bad memories.
Thinking of what was exposed...
"Stop thinking, stop thinking!" Mu Li hurriedly covered Liu Chaoque's head and shook it frantically: "Don't think about it, don't think about it!"
Liu Chaoque, whose head was throbbing from being shaken but had already thought it through, said: "No, I don't want to."
The cat is shy.
"That's why I don't like cat form," Mu Li said angrily. "It makes me expose myself."
"Mmm." Liu Chaoque nodded. No wonder he insisted on wearing clothes after turning into a cat.
Getting back to business, Liu Chaoque went out to buy suitable clothes for Mu Li, and Mu Li began searching through Si Feng's house. Given that the cat liked to knock things over, Liu Chaoque repeatedly told him to control his instincts.
"No, I've been human for so long, I've overcome that a long time ago," Mu Li said helplessly.
Liu Chaoque left the house with a preoccupied expression.
When Mu Li was the only one left in the house, he sniffed, looked around, and began to search. Cats don't have a dog's nose, and the space was filled with Si Feng's scent, so even if a dog came in, it wouldn't be able to find the target.
They could check the substance attached to it, but the only similar item they had come into contact with was that teacup, and after so long, he had almost forgotten the taste.
Let's start with the obvious places. Sifeng's home is decorated in a cozy style. Even though she lives alone, she keeps it very tidy. At least that's the general idea. For example, the crack in the door is a place that wasn't cleaned properly.
There wasn't a single thing resembling a white shark figurine next to the sofa table. Mu Li fiddled with it for a while, and the teapot almost fell to the ground. He quickly caught it and picked it up.
"I can't let Si Man look down on me," Mu Li thought to herself.
The nearest shopping mall is a 20-minute drive away. Sitting in the taxi, Liu Chaoque wondered if he could get the Food Spirits to help him if he smashed something.
She scratched her face, feeling that she was relying on them too much.
"Your Excellency, how could this be?"
“I am happy to be able to help the Imperial Attendant.”
"My Lord, it is my honor to protect you."
"Your Excellency, are you in trouble?"
A thousand voices seemed to echo in my mind, finally converging into one sentence: "Master, the Food Spirits will always be by your side... forever."
Liu Chaoque sighed softly, "How could it possibly last forever?"
The outline of the shopping mall appeared in front of Liu Chaoque. She stared blankly at the exaggerated advertisements.
"Hello, do you have size X for this dress?"
In Sifeng's house, Muli lay on the floor, poking around with a stick, looking at a few dusty coins and a small rhinestone remote control from who-knows-how-many years ago.
He sighed.
There was a knock on the door, and Liu Chaoque quickly came in. Looking at the mess on the floor and Mu Li, who had turned into a little kitten again, she twitched her lips and forced a smile that looked more like a grimace. She gritted her teeth and tried to remain calm as she asked, "Mu Li, have you found that shark keychain?"
"Stop talking." Mu Li threw down the stick and sat back on the sofa. She was surprised that even in such a mess, his clothes were still clean.
Liu Chaoque took a few steps closer, somewhat puzzled, but his gaze was drawn to the gleaming floor: "You mopped this floor?"
“Yes.” Mu Li sighed, “Although Wu Sifeng’s house looks very clean, the floor is covered in dust. I couldn’t find it in the obvious places, so I had to look for these nooks and crannies.” He stretched his sweater, “You just made this for me, of course I don’t want to get it dirty, but lying on the floor, I’m bound to touch the ground.”
With a tearing sound, it turned out that there were several pieces of transparent tape stuck to the front of his clean sweater.
"So I tried to sweep first to see if I could find it, and then I mopped and wiped the floor. Only after I finished all that did I dare to lie on the floor to look for things."
"That's amazing." Liu Chaoque praised sincerely, "But we'll have to clean up these things after we're done searching." She pointed to the items that had been pulled out.
"Yes, wash the useful ones and put them in a pile, and throw the useless ones away as trash." Mu Li nodded.
“However, I’ve been searching for so long and still haven’t found the pendant. Do you think it might have been taken by Wu Sifeng, just like Zhao Xiaomei?” He wiped his sweat with a handkerchief, took the bag Liu Chaoque handed him, and looked curiously at the contents: “Is it a shirt?” he asked.
"Hmm, see if it suits you. I picked it out based on your usual clothing preferences." Liu Chaoque waved his hand, examining the things Mu Li had brought out.
Mu Li tugged at her sweater. "Okay, I'll give it a try."
The green shirt, a bit long at the hem, paired with the jeans she bought, actually looked pretty cool.
Even if it doesn't look good, she can't possibly choose brightly colored clothes that would make her look like SpongeBob SquarePants.
Mu Li noticed that she was staring at a small ornament, a blue dolphin made of ceramic, with a rope hanging from it.
It was hung on the wall directly opposite them.
"What's wrong? Is there something wrong with this thing?" Could it be that there's a hidden room? Like in their house?
Liu Chaoque shook her head. She walked to the fish tank and asked Mu Li, "Have you searched everywhere in the house?" She asked again to confirm.
"Hmm, more or less," Mu Li said.
"Almost?" Liu Chaoque frowned. "Is there anything else I haven't seen?"
“We’re not octopuses. I haven’t checked anything except Wu Sifeng’s room, the kitchen, or the bathroom,” Mu Li said.
Fine, I'll have to put this germaphobe in a difficult position. She stepped over the dusty old objects and headed into the kitchen. Luckily, there were no cockroaches in the kitchen. She picked up a bowl and plate and sighed.
In the kitchen, Liu Chaoque even rummaged through the trash can. Amidst waves of nausea and Mu Li's disgust, she endured that unbearable minute.
After washing his hands, he still found nothing, but then he went to the bathroom. Liu Chaoque thought about rummaging through the bathroom trash can, his face filled with resistance and nausea.
"Never mind," she said, walking back to the living room. "Now we've looked at everything except the bathroom trash can. If it's really thrown in the trash, well, I don't want it anymore." She suppressed the nausea rising in her stomach and continued, "In the end, this is all that's left."
Mu Li looked in the direction Liu Chaoque was pointing and chuckled, "A fish tank? I haven't looked in this place, but everything here is transparent. Would she hide something in there?"
"Yes, for the memorial." Liu Chaoque looked at the clownfish playing among the anemones, apologized, and then found a basin and a fishing net. She filled the basin with salt water and carefully used the net to scoop the fish out of the fish tank one by one. Mu Li caught them in the basin. Perhaps it was the cat effect, but the fish looked listless.
Liu Chaoque was filled with trepidation. Once all the fish had been caught, the real destruction began.
She first took out the beautifully shaped sea anemones, which were smooth to the touch like jelly. Then she peeled the seaweed off the rocks along with the rocks. The water gradually became murky, and the usually colorful surface was peeled away to reveal the dark base.
It turns out that Wu Sifeng also used water plants and mud to create the landscape.
She plunged her entire body into the water, stirring it up until it became increasingly murky. She explored the dark bottom inch by inch to prove her hypothesis. One minute, two minutes passed as Liu Chaoque circled the tank. Because the tank was too large, and because she was afraid of damaging it, which would be utterly hopeless, she remained hesitant, only using tweezers to sense the movement below.
Time seemed to slow down, and she could almost hear the ticking of the clock in her mind.
Drip, drip, drip, drip.
"Thump." The tweezers seemed to have touched something. Liu Chaoque picked it up and took a look. Hmm, it was a rather large piece of volcanic rock.
She thought somewhat discouragedly: Could it be that Sifeng really took that thing out? It couldn't have really fallen into the toilet trash can, could it?
It was terrifying to think about, but looking at the murky water, she figured she had come this far, so she might as well continue.
Using tweezers to probe the bottom was too slow, so Liu Chaoque took the fish net and scooped out the aquatic plant mud and volcanic rock one basket at a time. Perhaps because it was an ecosphere or because one of the fish hadn't been cleaned, the aquatic plant mud here looked a bit ugly.
Mu Li covered her nose and rummaged through the contents. Grass clippings and scraps of fish and shrimp that had been eaten created a strange smell of swill.
"Found it!" After Mu Li filled several buckets with water and cleaned the algae and mud, Liu Chaoque raised her left hand. Her hands were covered in mud, and only the fish-like thing revealed a pure white luster.
