Chapter 33 Going up the mountain

Biancheng then showed her another photo.

"Where is this?" Liu Chaoque looked at Moon Lake and felt a little tempted to go and see it for himself.

"This was in the Tibetan region. I was suffering from altitude sickness at the time, and I took this photo while wearing an oxygen tank," Biancheng recalled.

“If you want to go, I’ll take you to Qinghai next time. There are also very beautiful lakes there, and you won’t experience altitude sickness,” he said.

"Okay." But the thought of going to such a far place made Liu Chaoque lose interest.

Mu Li watched the two talking, wondering why he couldn't join in. He sighed, hoping Liu Chaoque would notice that he was being ignored.

The two looked at the photos Biancheng had taken for a while longer, when Biancheng suddenly said, "My home is not far away. Do you want to come to my house and take a look? I'll show you my award-winning work."

"Oh, the home of a great photographer?" Liu Chaoque found it hard to believe. "Could it be that an entire wall is covered with photographs?"

“Then you might be a little disappointed,” Biancheng said helplessly. “Some photographers might like having photos plastered all over the wall, but I always feel like it’s a couple’s wall in a restaurant, or a sketch of a suspect that’s being looked for in a criminal investigation.”

"Is it the kind of assassination where a single dart hits the target?"

"That's perverted." Biancheng had wondered countless times how her brain was structured, and where she got all these strange ideas from.

"Hehe, that's true." Liu Chaoque scratched his face.

Neither of them noticed me, Mu Li thought in a fit of impotent rage.

Finally, Liu Chaoque noticed him. She turned to Mu Li and asked for her opinion: "Mu Li, do you want to go and see the Biancheng family?" But he looked upset and said with a hint of resentment: "Didn't you two agree? Why do you need my opinion? If I don't agree, you won't go?" If that's the case, what's the point of asking him like a formality?

"Your opinion is very important." I wondered who had upset this old man again; it couldn't have been me. She still said in a kind voice, "If you don't want to go, then I won't go. Anyway, I'm here to accompany you on your trip, so of course I'll go along with your wishes."

Liu Chaoque looked at Mu Li earnestly, his tone full of sincerity.

Mu Li's cheeks flushed slightly. She snorted and said, "Then let's go. Anyway, I've already fought the monkey to a standstill and there's nothing else to do. I'll go with you."

Liu Chaoque gave an "oh" and smiled meaningfully.

Bian Cheng glanced in Mu Li's direction, watching the interaction between the two, his brows furrowing slightly.

Liu Chaoque squatted down again and asked Mo Yun for his opinion in a high-pitched voice. After considering the reality, Mo Yun decided to go to Biancheng's house as well. His reason was: "I haven't seen the photographer's house yet."

It really is her own cat; they're on the same wavelength.

However, because of the monkey hair stuck to his head, he looked like he had been robbed by a monkey, and his head was sticky. Liu Chaoque suggested that they go back to the hotel first, and then go to Biancheng's house around 5 o'clock, so that they wouldn't have to eat at someone else's house.

Otherwise, we'd have to trouble Biancheng or his mom to make non-spicy dishes.

"Actually, the food at my house is quite delicious."

Liu Chaoque still declined, and she was very firm in making her decision.

The two cats and one person took turns showering in the hotel. Wearing a shower cap, Liu Chaoque hurriedly stuffed the few monkey hairs he had collected into a sealed bag.

I had reminded them at noon that the dinner wouldn't be spicy, but I was still not very satisfied.

Xiao Moyun was thinking of cooking for herself, but Liu Chaoque felt that they were only staying here for a few days and hadn't had much fun, so thinking about food was putting the cart before the horse.

"Food is the most important thing for people, isn't it? If you don't eat well, you can't enjoy playing games." On this point of view, Mo Yun and Liu Chaoque were at loggerheads, and neither could convince the other.

Finally, Mu Li mediated: "Why not order takeout or eat out? This place can't be all spicy food, right?" He took out his nationally recognized luxury credit card, showing off his wealth.

Very good, all three of them are satisfied.

At Biancheng's home, they met his mother, a woman in her fifties with some graying temples, but perhaps due to good maintenance, she had no age spots on her face.

She invited everyone to sit down and asked Biancheng to treat them well.

For some reason, watching her busy figure, Liu Chaoque felt a little nostalgic for his mother. His mother, in reality, always needed to dye her hair black. She had a lot of white hair, and in order to look younger, she had tried dyeing it reddish-brown, but it quickly turned white again. Until I accidentally bought a walnut hair dye online, her hair finally turned black again.

She had a face full of wrinkles and age spots on her cheeks. At 50 years old, she was very thin.

She always wanted to get rid of her mother's freckles, so that her mother could stay at home, not have to go to work, hire a caregiver, and only need to go out for walks. When she felt like it, she could sign up for a class and go out to see the world.

But Liu Chaoque forgot that when her mother wasn't working, she was busy with household chores and farming. She would buy cheap washing machines that could only spin-dry the water. Even though life was better, they didn't buy much furniture. And the money for the caregivers made her feel bad.

"I'd rather buy more food or more clothes."

Even now, with the money Liu Chaoque earns, and with a fully automatic washing machine, a robot vacuum cleaner, and furniture that she considers haphazardly purchased, she still worries that no one will take care of her when she gets old. She pressures her to find a partner, get married, and have children, making Liu Chaoque afraid to go home. She wants to ensure that she will have someone to rely on in her old age, without needing her children's involvement, and that she can hire a caregiver. However, she is also afraid that the caregiver will mistreat her.

It seems that a person's entire life is designed by a program, from youth to old age, and then to death, in an endless cycle.

Liu Chaoque looked at the glass of water beside her. She said it was a game world, but what she called the real world might just be a program written by some higher-dimensional being.

"Smile, what do you think?" Bian Cheng's voice rang in Liu Chaoque's ears. She subconsciously turned her face to face him, her eyes filled with confusion.

Biancheng said helplessly, "Were you daydreaming? We were just talking about whether we should take you up the mountain and then treat you to some local specialties, of course, the non-spicy ones."

Mu Li nodded.

"Although it doesn't taste spicy, it's quite a novelty here," Bian Cheng said honestly. "Over the years, I've been to many places and eaten many dishes. To be honest, when I get back home, I feel that the food at home is too spicy, not to mention that you don't like spicy food in the first place. As for that high-end restaurant that Mu Li mentioned, the chain one, although it doesn't make spicy food, you can eat it elsewhere, which reduces the meaning of traveling."

Liu Chaoque thought so too.

"Sichuan hot pot certainly has clear broth, but I suggest that even if you don't like spicy food, unless you are allergic to spice, you can try rinsing the hot pot with chili oil before eating. This can reduce the spiciness and allow you to taste the local specialty broth."

"And then there's Mapo Tofu, a local specialty that's completely different from other places. Let's try it. I also remember there's a restaurant that caters specifically to seniors, where the food isn't spicy. We can go there tomorrow or the day after."

Liu Chaoque and Mu Li had actually planned a three-day trip to Mount Emei, but due to the unexpected arrival of Biancheng, and the fact that they had spent the last few days climbing the mountain, it felt like eating squirrel-shaped mandarin fish for three days straight, making even the best scenery seem dull and uninteresting.

So even Mu Li, who disliked Bian Cheng, agreed to Bian Cheng's suggestion. In order to have more fun, Liu Chaoque reluctantly postponed the time to five days later, deducted a lot of handling fees from her, and also had to pretend to check in the luggage.

On the first day, Guang played with the monkeys. Liu Chaoque and his group hadn't climbed Mount Emei yet. In order to prevent the monkeys from recognizing Liu Chaoque's appearance, they launched another face-smearing attack.

Liu Chaoque sprayed some perfume on himself and, with the help of some red wine, quickly teleported Mu Li to the mountainside.

The monkeys only felt a familiar figure dart past them like a gust of wind.

"Who was that just now?"

"He's even more powerful than the Monkey King."

"Did you see where she ran off to?"

……

Mu Li, who was being held by Liu Chaoque, and Mo Yun, who was resting on her shoulder, felt as if they had seen the light.

Biancheng, who was following behind and almost had his camera snatched by a monkey, gradually stiffened his smile.

The Emei Mountain range stretches endlessly; standing atop one of its peaks, one can gaze into the distance and see no end in sight.

While waiting for Biancheng to arrive, Liu Chaoque and his companion laid out a picnic blanket, placed some snacks and bento boxes on it, along with some cola and Muli's favorite caviar.

When Biancheng climbed up, panting, he saw Liu Chaoque striking a pose and taking pictures.

“I’m here.” He stood next to Liu Chaoque, not looking at what she was filming, and therefore did not notice the image she sent to Potter.

Potter: "Oh, so beautiful, your picture is fantastic and majic."

Liu: "Thank you."

Potter is great in every way, except she loves to be praised too much; it makes her feel embarrassed.

"Want a Coke?" It's finally here! Liu Chaoque felt like he couldn't wait to eat. After all, with so much delicious food tempting him, he really wanted to devour it all.

"I'll just drink orange juice," Biancheng explained. "Mainly because I don't like drinking cola, or maybe it's because I used to drink too much of it and it's ruined my health."

Actually, she doesn't particularly like it; she just occasionally craves it and wants to try it.

The Coca-Cola Spirit, who kindly provided the Coca-Cola, is crying in the toilet.

"Who do you think invented this sandwich (chew, chew, chew)? It's actually quite delicious." It was a chicken breast sandwich that Liu Chaoque bought at the convenience store for ten yuan each, and Mu Li also spread some mayonnaise on it.

Liu Chaoque tore off a piece of cake, put some macarons on his plate, took a bite in the cool breeze, covered his teeth, and revealed a pained expression: "So sweet."

These macarons are just too authentic!

Biancheng hissed and decided to reach for the only box of blueberries that hadn't been touched much.

He handed it to her: "How about eating something sour to neutralize it?"

"Thank you." Then she was jolted awake by the sourness again. The sweetness of blueberries was overwhelmed by the macarons and turned into pure sourness, making her teeth ache.

Mo Yun couldn't bear to watch any longer. The little cat, whose presence had become very weak since going on vacation, rummaged through the crackers and handed them to her.

Liu Chaoque glanced at it and saw that it was still a savory biscuit.

From now on, let's eat some regular food. After all this fuss, Liu Chaoque can't eat macarons anymore. She took a rice ball with some pork floss, sausage and salted egg yolk inside, which is a relatively luxurious combination.

No matter how well the backpack kept it warm, the glutinous rice inevitably became hard.

She had to chew it many times, otherwise she would get indigestion. After chewing it a few times, her cheeks started to hurt.

Liu Chaoque had no choice but to distract himself by scrolling through short videos on his phone.

"Emei Mountain Travel Guide"

Are the monkeys on Mount Emei really fierce?

Are there any non-spicy dishes in Sichuan Province?

Because he had searched so much, Liu Chaoque had watched several videos about these topics, and finally found one that was different.

Or: How to prevent and control forest fires.

Liu Chaoque looked at the distant scenery, then at his phone. Was it really necessary to be so adaptable to the local conditions?

Because they also needed to put a tablecloth in their backpacks, the two of them didn't actually bring much food. While Liu Chaoque was struggling with Nuomi, Moyun and Muli had already finished their lunch.

They huddled together, playing mobile games, and from time to time, you could hear Mo Yun's anxious meows and Uncle Mu and Uncle Han's extremely loud commands.

Games really do make people irritable; that's not good.

Biancheng brought a bottle of water and some compressed biscuits. He looked really pitiful. After asking if he liked sweets and getting an affirmative answer, he placed the small cake and macarons in front of him. Of course, Liu Chaoque had already thrown away the ones that had been bitten.

Biancheng laughed strangely and said, "You really won't eat it yourself?"

"Eat it if you like, I have some other things too." Then she pulled out a baby smiley face cake, an old-fashioned kind of cake.

"Is that a magic bag in your pocket? How come it has all sorts of things?" Biancheng chuckled and teased.

"Perhaps, don't you know that girls' pockets are full of treasures?" Liu Chaoque said, half-jokingly.

"Oh, I see." Anyway, what she took wasn't particularly outrageous, so I'll just turn a blind eye.

After all, strictly speaking, this cake is quite big.

After cleaning up the dishes, the three of them and the cat headed down the mountain in another direction. They had heard there was a temple nearby and wanted to go there to take a look and make some wishes for wealth. What if the gods heard them? Even Mu Li wouldn't mind if she didn't have enough money.

However, they were somewhat disappointed when they arrived at the Buddhist temple. There were many people, but it wasn't as lively as the temples they had visited before. Perhaps it was because it was located on a mountain. Few people come to Mount Emei specifically to worship Buddha; most just stop by to rest and ask for some water.

Even so, they couldn't find a suitable spot right away, so they found a clean step and laid a tablecloth on the ground.

Indeed, a clean cloth is essential when traveling.

Liu Chaoque sat on the top step, resting his hands on either side, tilting his head back, watching the clouds drift by, and unconsciously felt a little sleepy.

"What is that?" A sudden exclamation, accompanied by a hurried voice, woke Liu Chaoque, who had been resting with his eyes closed.

She opened her eyes, looked in the direction the passerby was pointing, and subconsciously glanced at the border town beside her, her eyes widening.
