Chapter 335 Twin Towers
In the end, under Professor Agasa's pitiful gaze, Ai Haibara lowered her standards and allowed him to eat a bowl of fragrant white rice.
Although this is far less than what Dr. Agasa initially expected.
However, Professor Agasa was already quite satisfied to have gotten such an advantage right under Ai Haibara's nose.
I can always sneak a little something later tonight...
As Dr. Agasa thought this, he couldn't help but speed up the process of eating his rice.
Before long, the group finished lunch and began to discuss their plans for the afternoon.
Although the campsite has excellent facilities and environment, it is a newly built site with very few places to visit.
They had already explored the man-made river when they first arrived, so there was no point in experiencing it again.
After discussing it, the group decided to go to the nearby city of Nishitama for a stroll and then return to the camp to rest in the evening.
This suggestion undoubtedly received everyone's support. Impatient Heiji Hattori and Conan even thought that if they could try their luck in Nishitama City, they might encounter some interesting cases.
Despite being reprimanded by Kitagawa Isao, they still lacked the most basic respect for the case.
Perhaps it was the stark contrast between the repression of this period and the smooth sailing they had previously enjoyed, coupled with the exhilaration of solving the arcade case a couple of days ago, that made these two detectives so eager to prove themselves with a case.
So they set their sights on Nishitama City, hoping that this place with special memories could bring them a surprise.
Kitagawa Isao was too lazy to say anything more. Seeing the two detectives and the three children looking so excited, he shrugged and turned to wink at Haibara Ai.
"I bet them 500 yen they'll stumble upon the crime in Nishitama City later, don't you think?"
"Isn't this something that was bound to happen? According to my investigation, the probability of Edogawa encountering a murder while out and about is almost the same as the probability of Professor Agasa having an accident while camping—both are 90% likely events. Not to mention that this is a combination of both."
So...aren't you going to try your luck?
"Relying on Edogawa? Do you think I'd do something so foolish? Why would I participate in a gamble I'm destined to lose? Kitagawa-kun, you're seriously underestimating me."
"Well, okay then. But what kind of case do you think they'll encounter this time?"
'It's probably a serial murder case...'
After a brief exchange using the team's voice chat, having teased Conan Edogawa to the point of exhaustion, Professor Agasa and the others on the other side had already packed their things and were ready to depart.
Seeing this, Kitagawa Isao patted his bottom and stood up, and as usual, he took Haibara Ai's little hand and walked to the car.
Conan and Heiji Hattori also shamelessly joined in.
Kitagawa Isao did not choose to expel them. Compared to the two detectives' subtle probing, he was even less inclined to answer questions from the three chattering children.
This has nothing to do with personal likes or dislikes; it's simply a matter of wanting some peace and quiet.
However, this time Conan and Heiji Hattori had clearly learned their lesson. Although they chatted along the way, they mostly talked about the cases they had solved before and did not involve Kitagawa Isao.
Conan speaks from Kogoro Mouri's perspective, focusing on the cases solved by "Sleeping Kogoro".
Kitagawa Isao, however, was completely lost in thought, pretending not to have heard anything, and even occasionally chimed in with a few words, which made Haibara Ai unable to stop herself from chuckling.
……
After about half an hour, the two cars finally arrived at the outskirts of Nishitama City and saw the newly built landmark building—the twin skyscrapers.
This is a twin-tower building funded and built by the Tokiwa Group. It is said to be the tallest twin-tower building in Japan, with one tower reaching 319 meters and the other 294 meters. There are connecting bridges on the 45th and 60th floors.
Looking at the landmark building, Hattori Heiji frowned and said in a deep voice, "What's going on? Building such a tall building in the city center is a complete violation of the urban construction law, isn't it? I really don't know what these officials in Nishitama City are thinking, allowing them to approve something so dangerous."
Upon hearing this, Conan, who was standing nearby, immediately showed his displeasure.
Compared to Hattori Heiji, an outsider, he, as a native of Tokyo, was more familiar with the relevant laws and regulations in the area.
He was almost certain that the twin-tower skyscraper was an illegal building!
But now it has sprung up from the ground, and it seems that it will soon be open for business... It would be almost impossible to say that there was no corruption, bribery, or collusion between officials and businessmen involved.
Ha, I never expected something like this to happen right under the noses of these two detectives. It seems it's time for the people here to experience the taste of justice and legal punishment!
Thinking of this, Conan subtly exchanged a glance with Heiji Hattori, who instantly understood and, feigning nonchalance, looked at Isao Kitagawa and said:
"Mr. Kitagawa, since we're going to visit Nishitama City anyway, how about we go check out the twin skyscrapers over there? What do you think?"
Taking a stroll was secondary; his real purpose was to investigate thoroughly with Conan and, incidentally, to confirm who had granted the building permit.
Ideally, the perpetrators would be caught red-handed. Even if the stolen money isn't found, having the list of names would allow him to report the crime to his father and have the police in Nishitama City investigate.
Kitagawa Isao naturally had no objection to this.
After making a phone call with Professor Agasa, the two cars immediately turned around and drove to the parking lot of the Twin Towers skyscraper.
However, just as the group got out of the car, before Ayumi and the others could even come forward to share their newly invented game with Conan, the sharp-eyed Conan Edogawa spotted a familiar figure getting out of a van not far from them.
"Conan? What are you guys doing here? Weren't you supposed to be going camping with Dr. Agasa?"
Ran stared into the distance with a puzzled look on her face. Beside her, Sonoko, who was equally puzzled, and Kogoro Mouri, who was frowning, followed closely, staring intently at Conan and the others not far away.
Upon seeing this, Conan quickly stepped forward to explain the whole story, while also covering for his good friend Heiji Hattori.
Even so, he still took a punch from the unreasonable Kogoro Mouri.
"Hey! You persistent little devil, how come I always run into you everywhere I go!"
