I long to return home!

Chapter 5 Eat fish

Warcraft forest.

After entering the teleportation array leading to the Monster Forest, Xue Wu felt dizzy, and when he opened his eyes again, he was in a forest with towering trees and lush foliage.

He quickly looked around. The group of people who had participated in the trial with him were now in a state of panic, huddled together in a group, seeking that so-called sense of security. At this moment, even the chirping of a bird would probably make them scatter and flee.

The forest was quiet and peaceful, without even the sound of birds chirping. This scene made Xue Wu uneasy. He had personally seen forests where magical beasts, lion-tiger beasts, existed. Although they were no different from normal forests, they always had a repressive atmosphere. The place he was in now, called the Magical Beast Forest, was too peaceful, which gave him a feeling of oppression.

He frowned, a guess forming in his mind. He muttered to himself, "If this is the Monster Forest, why did Brother Xu go down the mountain a year ago to hunt monsters and complete the sect's mission? He could have just killed them here and gone back. Why go through all this trouble?"

"Moreover, if this were truly a monster forest, even a first-tier monster would be beyond the capabilities of ordinary humans; surviving here for a single night would be utterly absurd..."

Indeed, this is not the Monster Forest, but a place where the elders of the Luoyun Sect raise spirit beasts. It is a perfect treasure land with natural spiritual energy that is suitable for spirit beasts to live in, located in the back mountain of the Luoyun Sect.

Suddenly, a faint light appeared on the token that Xu Tao had given Xue Wu, which was hanging at his waist. He then took the glowing token in his hand to examine it, and saw two lines of large characters appear on the token.

Stay true to your original aspirations and forge ahead bravely.

A smile appeared on Xue Wu's lips. He slowly put down the token and walked alone through the dense forest. If he had been suspicious before, seeing those two lines of text confirmed his suspicions.

"Isn't that the person who met the immortal earlier? Why did he leave alone?" A man of average height with freckles on his face said, looking in the direction Xue Wu had left.

“It really is true. I think I just saw him pick up something that was glowing and look at it for a few moments.”

"Stop talking. If we follow him, we might survive. Maybe he knows something."

Everyone agreed to the suggestion and quietly followed behind Xue Wu.

After walking for a long time, Xue Wu came to a stream and laughed a few times, saying, "Luckily, I watched a lot of Bear Grylls' survival videos before. The first step in wilderness survival is to find a water source and then get food."

"Food shouldn't be a problem, there are bound to be fish passing by this stream. As for accommodation, just find a tall tree to sleep in for the night."

"Hmm... um, the next problem is the fire source. I don't have a lighter, and starting a fire by friction is too tiring. This is really a headache."

Xue Wu stood by the stream, muttering to himself as he pondered how to start a fire, while the others behind him watched him with puzzlement from the bushes nearby.

What is he doing?

"Maybe I got some kind of hint. Let's take our time and see."

Xue Wu pondered for a moment, then sighed and said, "Forget it, it's too much trouble. My brain is already overloaded. Let's just eat raw fish sashimi. At worst, we can skewer it for a few days to get our digestive system cleared up."

"Huh? He just mentioned sashimi, is that some kind of clue?"

"It sounds like they're talking about sashimi, what's that? Has anyone heard of it?"

"No, I've never heard of sashimi before in all my years of life."

The noise alerted Xue Wu, who quickly turned around and looked at the dense bushes behind him. The people in the bushes noticed him and immediately crouched down, covering their mouths and not daring to make a sound.

"Am I being too depressed by myself? Am I hallucinating?" Xue Wu looked around for a long time without finding anything, scratched his head and said indifferently.

At this very moment, a brightly colored, energetic fish suddenly emerged from the clear stream, like a dancer in a gorgeous costume, gracefully twirling in the water, showing off its plump body. Upon closer inspection, one could see five different colors faintly visible on the fish's body, as if it were wearing a colorful dance skirt, shimmering dazzlingly in the sunlight.

Snapped!

The plump fish collapsed unconscious on the grass after Xue Wu slapped it hard across the face.

"What are you showing off for? Eating such a big fish raw is disrespectful to it. Let's make a fire and grill the fish!"

"If we had a pot, we'd grill half of it and stew the other half in fish soup to make something nourishing," Xue Wu said with a smile, drool dripping from his mouth as he looked at the fish on the ground.

Back in the old days at home, when he had plenty to eat and wear, and enjoyed meat and fish every day, Xue Wu could be described as extremely picky about food. He wouldn't eat if it didn't taste good, didn't look appealing, or wasn't presented nicely. He wouldn't eat chicken legs with the skin on, or meat with feathers on it, and he wouldn't eat fish skin... In short, he was very picky about food, and his parents and grandparents always spoiled him. But now, after living alone in this other world for a year, although he has earned some money by working for others to survive, he sometimes doesn't know where his next meal is coming from, and there have even been times when he went two days without food due to unforeseen circumstances. Not to mention that he used to be able to eat snacks like potato chips and French fries.

The pressures of life have long since worn down his edges. Now, he'll even lick the fish bones clean until there's not a trace of sustenance left.

Time flies, and before long it was sunset. Xue Wu lit a fire using the method Bear Grylls used to start a fire, and grilled the plump fish skewers on thin wooden sticks over the fire, humming a tune from his hometown from time to time.

"Why is he humming a song?"

"That grilled fish smelled so good!" a fat man in the crowd said, drooling.

"Hold on, don't let your guard down. This is a trap, we can't fall for it," the freckled man said firmly, clutching his rumbling stomach.

After hearing the freckled man's words, everyone dispelled their doubts and quietly monitored Xue Wu.

The fish was quickly grilled, and its aroma filled the air, making everyone in the bushes drool. Some even hallucinated from the smell.

"It's done grilling, it smells so damn good!" Xue Wu took a big bite of the fattest part of the fish, his mouth dripping with oil, enjoying it immensely. He finished it in the blink of an eye, licking even the bones clean.

Suddenly, Xue Wu's face froze as he realized something was wrong. He clutched his throat in agony, feeling something unknowingly rushing into his body from his throat.

"Damn! Is this fish poisonous? Damn it, we've fallen for their trap." Xue Wu gasped for breath, feeling a surge of heat within him, as if his bones were tearing apart. He collapsed to the ground with a thud.

"what happened to him?"

"They must be full, sleepy, and want to sleep."

"Then what should we do? I'm so hungry," the fat man said, clutching his flattened stomach.

“Let’s sleep too, we won’t be hungry when we’re asleep.” With that, the freckled man couldn’t hold on any longer and collapsed to the ground to sleep. The others also lost interest in continuing to monitor Xue Wu and fell asleep as well.

Shortly after everyone fell asleep, five colors—red, blue, green, brown, and purple—flashed in turn on Xue Wu's chest, but the flashes faded after a short while.
