Chapter 43 Blood Mosquito
What's that sound? Oh no, it sounds like something's behind me.
Xue Wu quickly noticed the buzzing of the blood mosquitoes. He focused his attention, gathering his inner energy in preparation for battle. In an instant, he whirled around, lightning crackling in his hand, and stared directly at the blood mosquitoes behind him.
"What? Mosquitoes?! Holy crap, they're huge!" Upon seeing the blood mosquito, Xue Wu's vigilance immediately dropped; he clearly didn't take a single mosquito seriously.
Buzz buzz...
The blood mosquito decisively extended its long proboscis and stabbed at Xue Wu. Xue Wu grinned, clapped his hands, and the blood mosquito burst open on the spot. Its internal mucus splattered all over his face. Fortunately, Ruogu had spiritual energy protecting him and was not splashed. Otherwise, there would have been no clothes for him to change into in the huge Hundred Weapons Valley.
"Damn, that's disgusting." Xue Wu wiped the sticky liquid off his face in disgust. The strong stench almost made him vomit. He didn't even bother to take the beast core left behind by the dead blood mosquito.
"No, I need to find a pool of water to wash off this stench first, it's killing me." Xue Wu looked down to check if there was any dirt left on his body, which he would wash off later.
Buzzing, buzzing...
A swarm of blood-red mosquitoes rushed towards Xue Wu. He seemed to have forgotten that mosquitoes are gregarious creatures. He looked up suddenly and was so frightened that he turned and ran away. It wasn't that he was afraid to kill them or that he couldn't kill them, but that if he killed so many blood-red mosquitoes, he would be suffocated by their stench before they were even dead.
Xue Wu and a swarm of blood mosquitoes chased each other through the jungle, causing quite a commotion.
On the other side of the Wood Domain, Xu Tao held a sword in his hand, while a pack of jackals, tigers, and leopards stared at him hungryly. Among them was a Wood Spirit Ape, which was second only to a third-tier magical beast.
Jin Lingjiao happened to arrive at a stream in the confluence of waters. She calmly strolled along the stream, hoping to run into Xue Wu and the others.
"Where are Xue Wu and the others? I'm so bored."
Meanwhile, on a hilltop not far from her, a large group of armored soldiers were observing her every move.
"Reporting to Your Highness, it appears to be a spirit beast," a middle-aged man clad in magnificent armor said, bowing to those behind him.
"Spirit beasts? There are spirit beasts participating in this trial?"
A deep and authoritative voice rang out, and then a tall, slender, and stunningly beautiful woman slowly emerged from behind. She wore a gorgeous purple and gold ruqun (a type of traditional Chinese dress), and had long, dark purple hair braided into a plait that hung down her back, the color gradually lightening towards the ends. She wore a crown inlaid with jewels, which made her appear both dignified and elegant. Her beautiful face had a pair of light purple eyes, with a beauty mark at the corner of her right eye. Her gaze was deep and sharp, as if she could see through everything. She had a graceful figure, and her legs were clad in black stockings, exuding charm.
She stood quietly on the mountaintop, then turned around and said calmly, "Let's go, don't bother with it."
"Yes, Your Highness," the leading man replied, bowing his head, and then led his soldiers to follow behind the second princess.
In the Wood Domain Forest.
"Are you fucking crazy? Is it really necessary? I just killed one of your compatriots, why are you chasing me like this?" Xue Wu used all his strength to run through the forest, but the blood mosquitoes behind him kept up and didn't pull away at all.
Suddenly, the sounds of fierce fighting came from ahead. Xue Wu couldn't help but smile. "I'm sorry, brother. If I sacrifice you, I'll be happy for the rest of my life." He quickened his pace and ran forward.
Within this Wood Domain, dealing with this Wood Spirit Ape was truly difficult. The unpredictable vines were a real nuisance. Xu Tao gasped for breath, holding his sharp sword against the wounded Wood Spirit Ape, while jackals, tigers, and leopards around him died one after another.
Just as the two sides were locked in a stalemate, the bushes behind the Wood Spirit Ape shook violently, and then Xue Wu appeared out of nowhere. His running feet accidentally kicked the Wood Spirit Ape to the ground, where it howled in pain.
Xu Tao was taken aback, but upon seeing the newcomer, he exclaimed with delight, "Junior Brother!"
"Huh? Brother Xu!" Xue Wu looked at Xu Tao in shock, his previous thought of finding a victim vanishing completely. He then shouted in terror, "Run!"
"What?" Xu Tao was surprised and confused when Xue Wu ran past him. He stood there, staring at the bushes that were still swaying in the direction Xue Wu had come from.
Buzzing, buzzing...
A swarm of blood-red mosquitoes attacked, and the Wood Spirit Ape, which had just gotten up and was still unaware of the situation, was instantly devoured by the mosquitoes, leaving only a skeleton.
"Holy crap!" Xu Tao's pupils widened in surprise, and he quickly chased after Xue Wu in the direction he had left.
There are restrictions within Hundred Weapons Valley, prohibiting all cultivators from flying on swords.
Xu Tao quickly caught up with Xue Wu, who was running ahead, and asked in surprise, panting heavily, "Junior brother, where did you attract so many blood mosquitoes?"
"I don't know either. I just came in and killed a blood mosquito that was trying to ambush me. Who would have thought that its ancestors would keep chasing after me?" Xue Wu said helplessly.
"Su Changfeng?!" Xu Tao called out to the man in blue who was strolling not far away.
"Who?" Xue Wu asked in confusion.
“Elder Su’s disciple,” Xu Tao explained.
Su Changfeng, who was strolling ahead, was attracted by Xu Tao's shout. He turned around and was about to greet him when he saw the dark mass of blood mosquitoes behind him. Without looking back, he ran ahead.
Su Changfeng soon arrived at a cliff with nowhere to go, at which point Xue Wu and his companion arrived.
"Why aren't you moving?" Xu Tao shouted.
“Cliff,” Su Changfeng said.
"Huh?!" Xu Tao looked down along the edge of the cliff and saw a flowing river below.
"It's okay, jump."
Upon hearing this, Su Changfeng glanced at the height of the cliff, then at the blood mosquitoes chasing after him, gritted his teeth, and jumped off.
"Junior brother, why aren't you jumping?" Xu Tao looked anxiously at Xue Wu, who was still hesitant and hadn't jumped yet.
"I'm afraid of heights." Xue Wu looked at Xu Tao awkwardly as his legs trembled uncontrollably.
"No..." Xu Tao was speechless for a moment, then said, "Then I'm sorry, junior brother. I believe you won't blame your older brother, right?"
"what?"
"Go!" Xu Tao said, kicking Xue Wu off the ground before he could understand what was happening, and then jumped down before the blood mosquitoes could arrive.
Xue Wu screamed in terror in mid-air, and soon after, he fell into the water with a splash and was swept away by the flowing river.
The blood mosquitoes that arrived paused briefly at the edge of the cliff before disappearing into the jungle.
The Valley of a Hundred Soldiers.
The flowing river carried the three of them to a rocky outcrop by the beach. Xue Wu staggered to his feet, leaning on the rock for support, and began to vomit. The incident had happened so suddenly that he hadn't held his breath when he fell into the water and had instead been drinking the river water as he drifted to this spot.
Xu Tao then jumped out of the water, shook his soaking wet hair, went to Xue Wu's side, patted his back and asked with concern, "Are you alright?"
"It's nothing, I just drank too much water." Xue Wu said, then vomited again.
"I'm curious, how did you attract such a large swarm of blood mosquitoes?" Su Changfeng walked to the shore and lay down, then threw out a pill from his storage bag.
Xu Tao took the pill and gave it to Xue Wu, which improved his vomiting. Then, with Xu Tao's help, Xue Wu lay down next to Su Changfeng.
