"You're Lee Seung-hwan?" Seo Jae-hyun looked up, sized him up, and said expressionlessly.

"Yes, Chief Prosecutor." Lee Seung-hwan replied respectfully, his attitude extremely humble.

"Chief Lee, you've been making quite a splash lately. I heard you even dared to report a chaebol chairman and a presidential candidate, and you even sent your boss to the Department of Audit and Inspection. I think the Seoul District Prosecutors' Office is about to run out of room for you."

Xu Zaixian said something meaningful with a half-smile.

"Chief Prosecutor, you flatter me too much. I don't have that much power. They forced me into this situation. I had no choice but to fight back. If they had given me a way out, I wouldn't have resorted to this."

“In that situation, if I hadn’t resisted, I wouldn’t even have the chance to stand here and see you now.”

Upon hearing this, Lee Seung-hwan felt a slight chill and lowered his head, repeatedly saying he dared not, but in his heart he was wondering if Seo Jae-hyun's words had a hidden meaning.

Or is it because he knows you've abducted his precious daughter, and he wants to give you a hard time?

Xu Zaixian waved his hand and said, "You kid, don't play the victim here. You even dared to report big shots like Chairman Wu and Councilor Zhang, which means you were prepared in advance. I'm not here to interrogate you, but to ask you how you plan to handle this matter."

"You know, a chaebol chairman and a presidential candidate are the real big shots in this country. I've received no less than a dozen calls today, from Congress, from Representative Zhang's party, from the Future Group chairman's office, and so on."

“They are all pressuring me to hand over you, the culprit. I, as the chief prosecutor, am under a lot of pressure.”

Hearing Xu Zaixian's words, Li Chenghuan was somewhat surprised. He never expected that his father-in-law had already received pressure from those higher up.

It seems he shielded me from a wave of threats.

So he quickly thanked him: "Chief Prosecutor, you are the one who understands and supports your subordinates. Unlike that old guy Cui Bingcheng, I did my best to serve him, but he colluded with outsiders to betray me. If it weren't for my quick thinking, you wouldn't be here to see me!"

Xu Zaixian was speechless: "Am I talking to you about being considerate of subordinates? Let me tell you, many of the people who called me offered me tempting deals, saying that as long as I hand you over, they would promise me a position as a senior prosecutor. I'm in a difficult position now."

Seeing this, Lee Seung-hwan quickly said, "Chief Prosecutor, I'm your female...soldier. If even you abandon me, what will people outside think of the Seoul District Prosecutors' Office? How will we prosecutors unite in the future?"

Seeing Li Chenghuan's sly demeanor, Xu Zaixian couldn't help but laugh in exasperation: "You little rascal, why does the word 'unity' sound so jarring coming from your mouth? In the past few months, you've implicated two prosecutors, and even your superior has fallen. Someone told me that this is called insubordination. Who will dare to hire you in the future?"

Lee Seung-hwan looked aggrieved: "Chief Prosecutor, I was forced into this. A prosecutor like me who is not afraid of powerful people will only face death if I don't resist. I also want to go along with them, but they don't want me."

Xu Zaixian waved his hand: "Alright, let's skip the pleasantries. I can only tell you that the Seoul District Prosecutors Office doesn't cause trouble, but we're not afraid of trouble either. I'll handle the pressure from the National Assembly, but you'll have to face the pressure from other places directly. If they find something to use against you and drag you into the abyss, I won't save you."

"If you want to take the shortcut of defying power, then you must be prepared to be reduced to ashes. Are you prepared?"

Xu Zaixian and Li Chenghuan locked eyes; Xu Zaixian's wise gaze seemed to see right through Li Chenghuan's heart.

Li Chenghuan said solemnly, "Chief Prosecutor, this is not a shortcut, but the right path!"

Xu Zaixian smiled with some relief after hearing this.

This kid really surprised him.

He had worked in the procuratorial system for most of his life and had seen all kinds of prosecutors. Many young prosecutors were like Li Chenghuan at the beginning, full of justice and feeling that they must handle major cases and not be afraid of powerful people.

After being brutally beaten down by reality several times, he finally realized his mistake and became a jaded old hand, seeking no merit but avoiding mistakes, only wanting to live a peaceful and stable life.

After all, prosecutors at the lower levels are just ordinary laborers, and most of them don't get promoted even by retirement.

Lee Seung-hwan, however, embarked on the most difficult path, which was also the fastest way to get ahead. He had to start by suing a presidential candidate and a chaebol chairman, so you can imagine how difficult this case was.

To be honest, Seo Jae-hyun didn't think highly of Lee Seung-hwan.

Even if he did have a lot of evidence of the illegal and criminal activities of these two big shots, it was useless to keep this evidence to himself or to show it to the public.

It's only useful to judges.

But what if the judge is also one of their people?

To put it bluntly, if Zhang Biyu and Wu Yanxiu put pressure on the court, Li Chenghuan wouldn't even be able to get an arrest warrant.

For a mere chief prosecutor like him to single-handedly take down these two formidable figures in South Korea's business and political circles is an incredibly difficult task.

But if he can really do it, he will be the most dazzling new star among prosecutors in Seoul and even in all of South Korea, truly deserving the title of star prosecutor.

He could even use this achievement to secure a ministerial position!

A ministerial prosecutor who is not even thirty years old!

This is a rare occurrence in the entire history of South Korean prosecutors.

The last person to achieve this was Han Kang-jik, now the head of the Strategy Department of the Supreme Prosecutor's Office.

That guy who even gives himself some face.

When Xu Zaixian thought of Han Qiangzhi, a look of amazement flashed in his eyes. If it weren't for his age, that guy would have been the chief prosecutor by now, and a senior chief prosecutor at that, just one step away from becoming the chief prosecutor.

To be honest, Xu Zaixian wasn't confident that he could experience being the prosecutor general before retiring.

But perhaps he could place his hopes on Lee Seung-hwan.

After all, this brat is with his daughter...

"Humph."

Thinking of this, he couldn't help but snort.

The little darling he'd raised since she was a baby was quietly snatched away by this scoundrel. It's a lie to say he's not angry.

But he knew it was his daughter's choice, and as her father, he shouldn't interfere too much. He called Li Chenghuan here today to see what he was made of, whether he had the ability and courage.

He didn't want his daughter to have to collect Lee Seung-hwan's corpse so soon after starting her relationship.

Now it seems that Li Chenghuan is clever, cunning, and doesn't reveal his true abilities, but he has principles and ambitions. As long as he doesn't fail halfway, he will achieve great things in the future.

Furthermore, even from the perspective of a prosecutor who was once hailed as a handsome man among prosecutors in his youth, Lee Seung-hwan was indeed outstanding in appearance. He was tall, had an exceptional temperament, bright eyes and sharp eyebrows, and a dignified appearance, making him a perfect match for his daughter.

The premise is that he can survive this confrontation.

Otherwise, he wouldn't admit to having such a son-in-law.

"Alright, get out of here. Remember, don't think that just because you have a relationship with Min-young, I'll help you with this case."

"I won't intervene unless you're facing a life-or-death situation," Xu Zaixian said in a nonchalant tone.

When Xu Zaixian brought up his relationship with Xu Minying, Li Chenghuan raised an eyebrow. Was his father-in-law subtly hinting at him?

So he said in a serious tone, "Father-in-law, please rest assured, I will never let Minying remain a widow!"

Xu Zaixian: "..."

"Get out, get out, who's your father-in-law?"

"Damn it, where's my knife?!"
