Farming in the Magical World

Chapter 86 Confession

Melissa, as expected of a former great magician, provided guidance that was far more detailed than Tim's half-baked approach. Her guidance was very systematic and detailed, and even included some of her own insights.

Even so, it still didn't make much of a difference.

Almost half an hour had passed, and when Melissa heard Lanny say that she still couldn't sense any magical elements, she helplessly slapped her forehead.

I knew I shouldn't have taken any chances. Since this little brother hadn't learned any of the family's magic, there must be a reason.

"You're not just insensitive to magic, you're practically immune to magic!" Melissa pouted, somewhat annoyed, as she looked at Lanny sitting cross-legged on the ground with his eyes closed.

Even the most talented person should have some vague senses, but because their perception is unclear, or their magical affinity is insufficient, they cannot directly control these magical elements.

But Lanny was different. After more than half an hour of guidance, it was discovered that Lanny had no sense of the omnipresent magical elements at all.

In her eyes, Lanny's body was like a sieve; magical elements could easily pass through it without leaving any trace, completely unaffected.

She had some doubts that this little brother might be one in a million—a magic-immune being.

“There’s a saying in the magical world that while most people’s perception of magical elements is vague and elusive, a very few are different. Those who are extremely sensitive to magical elements and can easily manipulate them are called magical geniuses. The other type is completely insensitive to magical elements, and their bodies cannot retain any trace of magic. They are called magical insulators by magicians. And you…” Melissa pointed at Lanny, looking helpless, “I’m afraid you’re the last type.”

Melissa leaned back in her chair, her face still showing signs of age, but a section of her fair ankle was visible on one foot. Her voice, demeanor, and movements, however, exuded the air of a mature woman.

Lanny had his eyes closed, and in his mind was an image of a young, mature woman speaking to him.

But when he opened his eyes, he saw an old face, and the sense of disorientation made him extremely uncomfortable.

After hesitating for a long time, he pointed to Melissa's face. "Why don't you take off the disguise? This face, paired with your voice, is really a bit strange."

"Is this the time to worry about that? Didn't you want to learn magic? Aren't you disappointed to hear that you can no longer learn magic?" Melissa hissed angrily in a low voice.

She found Lanny's reaction strange and couldn't figure out whether his previous enthusiasm was genuine or not.

Lenny shrugged, looking at Melissa with an indifferent expression. "So what should we do? Cry our hearts out? Will that change the outcome? Since it can't be changed, what's the use of being sad?"

Hearing Lanny's words, Melissa was slightly taken aback. Thinking about it, it really made sense. She couldn't help but look at this little brother with newfound respect. "You have quite the attitude!"

Lanny stood up, dusted himself off, and casually sat down on the edge of the table. Looking at Melissa's strange face, he couldn't resist his curiosity and pointed at her face again. "How did you do this? It's like a magic trick!"

"Makeup magic? What kind of magic is that?" Melissa touched her face, thinking that Lanny was talking about some kind of magic.

The things on her face weren't done with magic; they were just some simple tricks.

Besides, she can't cast any magic right now, so how can she use magic to modify herself?

“It’s a… …a… …” Lanny gestured for a long time, unable to think of a way to describe the concept of makeup, so he could only give a rather inappropriate example: “Just think of it as a kind of magic that can paint on your face.”

Imagine the magical makeup techniques of another world that can turn the elderly into young girls and men into women. It wouldn't be an exaggeration to call it magic, would it?

Melissa tilted her head and thought for a long time, but she still couldn't understand what it was like to paint on a person's face.

Do you mean to stretch the skin on a person's face flat and lay it straight, then put it on a canvas to paint?

Just thinking about that scene sent chills down her spine and made her tremble all over!

Shaking her head to clear these strange thoughts, she stood up from her chair and gestured to Lenny to wait outside. "Since you want to see what I really look like, fine, as you wish."

"Little brother, don't fall in love with me! I'm much older than you!"

Lanny looked around and realized that the room was indeed very small. With him there, it would be inconvenient for her to change clothes or anything like that, so she had no choice but to get up and walk out the door.

Then, the room was filled with the rustling sound of changing clothes, followed by the splashing sound of washing.

Lanny couldn't help but start to have wild thoughts. What exactly was the scene like in this room right now...?

"Young Master, what are you doing here?" Suddenly, a voice interrupted his random thoughts.

However, Candy was carrying a pile of clothes when she passed by the corridor and spotted Lanny standing there.

"Nothing... What's wrong with you?" Lanny didn't know how to explain for a moment, so he could only change the subject.

"Oh, these are Madam's clothes. I'll take them to Melinda, and she'll be in charge of washing them this afternoon!" Candy gestured to Lanny as she held up the clothes.

"Then hurry up and go, don't delay Madam's business!" Lanny waved his hand and urged repeatedly.

It was so strange and awkward for him to be standing outside Melissa's room, being pulled aside for a chat. He could only hope that Candy would leave as soon as possible.

Candy looked at the young master with suspicion, wondering what he was doing leaning against the outside of Granny Mei's room. She didn't let her imagination run wild, after all, Granny Mei was just an old woman in her eyes, and she wouldn't think of anything strange.

After being urged a few times by Lanny, she shook her head, still confused, and turned to leave. At the corner, she glanced at Lanny again, muttering to herself, "What's wrong with the young master? He's acting so strangely..."

Watching Candy's retreating figure, Lenny gave a wry smile. He wondered what Candy's little head was thinking about him, since he couldn't pretend not to see the doubt in her eyes.

He could only hope in his heart that Melissa would hurry up and bring a few more servants; he didn't know how to explain that.

Thankfully, a voice soon came from inside the room saying, "Come in!"

When Lanny stepped back into the room, although nothing had changed—it was still narrow and dimly lit—he felt a sudden brightness in his eyes.

Standing before him was no longer a frail, white-haired old woman.

Standing gracefully in the room was a beautiful woman with an oval face, willow-leaf eyebrows, long black hair cascading down her shoulders, and delicate features. Her white dress fit her perfectly, and although the clothes were somewhat old and worn, they still couldn't hide the beautiful figure encased in the dress.

Those big, watery eyes were looking at me with a half-smile, a look of anticipation on their faces.

"Melissa?" Lanny called out tentatively, somewhat incredulously, which elicited a burst of laughter from the beautiful woman.

"Haha, is there anyone else in this room besides me?" Melissa spread her hands and gestured around, indicating who else was in the room besides herself.

The moment that smile appeared, it was like the warm spring sun and a hundred flowers blooming, brightening the entire room.

Hearing that familiar voice and seeing the beautiful woman in front of him covering her mouth and giggling, Lanny finally accepted the fact that Granny Mei had become a great beauty. He looked her up and down, clicking his tongue in amazement.

"Wow, your disguise skills are amazing! How did you do that?"

It's one thing to have hair, but wearing a wig doesn't seem too surprising.

But where did all those wrinkles go?

How did those dark, yellow teeth transform into bright, white teeth now?

Melissa abandoned her pretense and seemed to have relaxed. She no longer hunched over and didn't mind Lanny staring at her. She spread her arms and turned around, letting Lanny see her to his heart's content, before gracefully sitting down in a chair, crossing her legs, and revealing her fair and tender calves under her skirt.

“Little brother, the wonders of this world far exceed your imagination. Besides magic, there are many things that are beyond your comprehension!” Melissa said in a lecturing tone, her legs crossed slowly, looking very relaxed and comfortable.

In her eyes, Lanny's noble status was nothing special; she was once the daughter of an earl, and a baron was just so-so.

Given that Lanny is even younger, it doesn't seem inappropriate to treat him like a little brother.

Lanny then leaned closer, craning his neck to examine her jawline closely.

Looking at the young face so close to hers, and feeling the warm breath on her face, Melissa felt a little uncomfortable and leaned back slightly. "What are you doing?"

I have to say, this little brother is actually quite handsome up close!

Melissa felt a ripple stir in her heart, which had remained undisturbed for many years.

"Plant juice, the stuff you put on your face before, it must have been some kind of plant juice, right?" As if he had discovered the other person's secret, Lanny smiled, his face full of certainty.

"What?" Melissa stared at him blankly, not understanding.

“I said,” Lanny pointed to her chin, “there are some yellowish parts here. It must be from some plant juice that was applied to dye it, right?”

"How did you know?" This time, Melissa finally heard what the other person said clearly, and was slightly startled!

This was one of her secrets, and it played a crucial role in her ability to disguise herself so well and escape the pursuit of the mysterious magician.

After all, the magician never imagined that someone without a trace of magic could inexplicably transform into someone else.

During her escape, she accidentally discovered that the juices of some plants, when applied to the face, could magically change the skin color, while others could change the hair color, and even the color of the teeth.

She also transformed from having bright eyes and white teeth into having a mouthful of yellow teeth by chewing these plants.

After all, the hardest thing for a person to change is the color of their teeth, which is why people subconsciously accept the identity she is portraying.

Lanny also noticed their intimate posture at this moment. He was so close that he could even smell Melissa's faint body fragrance.

He involuntarily sniffed the air before straightening up and taking a half-step back. A little embarrassed by his unconscious action, he paused before speaking, "I happen to know that some plants can be used for dyeing. It seems you've discovered them too?"

Lanny's subconscious deep breath made Melissa feel embarrassed, and her face turned slightly red.

This action was far too frivolous; since she was old enough to understand, no one had ever been so disrespectful to her.

Before becoming a great magician, she was still young, and no man would treat her like this.

After becoming a great mage, she became very powerful—so powerful that no man dared to treat her like that.

She had expected to be very angry, but after a moment of surprise, she realized that she felt more shy than angry.

"What's so strange about that? There are even plants that can absorb magic!" For a moment, she didn't know how to deal with her feelings. She looked away in a fluster, feeling that her heart was beating faster than usual.

I've heard there are plants that can absorb magic?

Upon hearing this, Lanny's eyes lit up, and he quickly asked, "What kind of plant? If it can absorb, can it release?"

Such a description reminded him of the magical natural treasures in cultivation novels, how could he not be excited?

“Many plants can absorb magic. They can become stronger by absorbing magical elements, just like they can absorb nutrients from the ground. What’s so strange about that?” Melissa looked at Lanny strangely when she heard his eager voice. She was puzzled by Lanny’s excitement.

She paused for a moment, then explained, "However, the plant I'm talking about absorbs more nutrients, which is different from many other plants!"

Tilting her head and recalling her previous experiences, Melissa slowly spoke again, "As for releasing them, they do indeed release them after absorbing a certain amount of magic power..."

Hearing that it could actually be released again, Lanny became even more interested, his breathing quickened as he nervously stared at Melissa.

She looked at the young baron in surprise, sensing Lanny's nervousness and anticipation, and became even more puzzled!

His mind raced, but he didn't stop speaking. Instead, he continued slowly, "However, the released magic power is extremely weak, very weak. I can't even sense it without careful observation."

"What's the use of such a weak release of magic?" Melissa stared intently at Lanny with her beautiful willow-leaf eyebrows, wanting to see what this little nobleman was thinking.

Although the other party used "weak" twice to emphasize it, Lanny didn't care. Instead, he clenched his fist and paced excitedly around the room, the two words echoing in his mind.

"A magic battery? A magical power bank? Or perhaps the universal currency of the cultivation world—spirit stones?"
