Farming in the Magical World
Chapter 41: Come with Enthusiasm
"My bodyguards are all top-notch, so their safety is not a problem."
Gino nodded perfunctorily, looking indifferent, but remembering the butler's instructions before he came, he reluctantly said a few more words!
He had overheard the exchange between Lanny and Randall, but he didn't think Lanny was wrong. Although Randall was the Duke's butler, he was still a servant, so how could he be disrespectful to a nobleman?
Lanny was just a minor baron, whom he could look down on or even ignore, but Randall was a different story.
Lanny had originally wanted to ask more about the situation in the central part of the kingdom to get a general understanding of the kingdom, but seeing Gino's spoiled appearance, he immediately lost interest, shook his head, and stopped talking.
Just then, Candy walked in from outside and whispered in Lanny's ear that dinner was ready. As she spoke, she curiously peeked at Gino, the son of the Grand Duke, like a curious child.
"Dinner is ready. It's simple in the countryside, I hope Young Master Gino won't mind! Let's go downstairs to eat!" Lanny stood up and gestured downstairs.
Upon hearing that they could have a meal, Gino didn't even bother to look at Lanny and got up to leave first.
Seeing his young master's rudeness, Randall smiled awkwardly at Lanny before following him.
Lanny pursed his lips, feeling a little annoyed. He was just a little kid, yet he acted so arrogantly, and he couldn't be scolded or hit. It was infuriating.
If it weren't for the fact that Gino looks a lot like a wallet, he really wouldn't want to bother with this guy anymore.
He hadn't expected that Gino, who had been so arrogant in his study, would light up when he saw Tiffany downstairs. Ignoring whether his entourage followed, he rushed over, bent down, extended his right hand, and smiled broadly at Tiffany. "Beautiful lady, allow me to introduce myself. I am Gino Williams, the Grand Duke's son. May I have the honor of knowing your name?"
Tiffany's outfit today truly lived up to the title of a beautiful lady. Her blonde hair was styled in an unusual updo, adorned with jewelry, including gold pendants that swayed gracefully as she walked.
Her face was clearly covered in some kind of powder, making her already fair skin even whiter, more delicate, and rosy.
The white gown exuded elegance and nobility. The fitted design accentuated her magnificent upper body, making her even more eye-catching, while the dress flared out at her slender waist, resembling a snow-white flower.
"Hello Mr. Gino Williams, I am Tiffany Wells, it's an honor to meet you."
She probably hadn't seen many suitors like this when she was at the Earl's castle, so she was slightly flustered by the young man who suddenly appeared in front of her. Her small hand, gloved in white, touched his hand and then left. Her fair face flushed slightly, and you could hear the obvious nervousness in her voice.
Upon hearing the other party's surname, Gino was slightly taken aback. He hadn't expected that this was actually the wife of that minor nobleman, and for some reason, a surge of anger rose within him.
Damn, that kid is so lucky to have married such a beautiful wife. Who would have thought such a beauty would come from such a remote place? Tiffany's looks are among the best even in the central kingdom, yet she married into this poor, backwater village of Caster Ridge. It's such a waste!
Of course, he didn't intend to marry this beautiful woman. Whether she was unmarried or not didn't matter. On the contrary, the thought that she was the mistress of this castle made him even more excited, and his eyes were practically spitting fire.
"Haha, Tiffany, your beauty is truly astonishing. I feel as if I am seeing a goddess from heaven."
"What a pity that I met you so late, otherwise I would never mind having a fair duel with Baron Wells!"
At this moment, Gino acted more like a seasoned womanizer than Lanny, the so-called playboy. He even spoke these obviously flattering words with utmost seriousness, looking at Tiffany with wide, sincere eyes.
He paused slightly between the words "baron" and emphasized them, his intentions were obvious.
Although Tiffany was often praised before she got married, she had never been praised so openly before. She said she couldn't take it in and her face turned even redder.
But she couldn't stand people who were full of sweet talk, and when the other party deliberately mentioned the name of the Baron, she felt a surge of irritation and disgust. Her pretty face, which had been slightly flushed, immediately turned cold. "Mr. Gino, you flatter me. Please sit down and have a meal. I'm afraid you must be starving."
After speaking, without waiting for a reply, she walked to Lanny's side, lifted the hem of her skirt to cover the wooden stool, and sat down gracefully.
It was only then that Lanny noticed that Tiffany's seat was a stool instead of a chair.
But thinking about it, it makes sense. With that dress she was wearing, she really couldn't sit down on the chair.
This was the first time he had seen Tiffany in such a dress. Although she looked very beautiful in it, he thought she looked more like a hedgehog, making it almost impossible for anyone to get close to her.
I wonder how I'll manage to go to the bathroom while wearing this, haha! --- --- Lanny thought with a touch of wicked humor as he looked at Tiffany's dress!
Little did he know that if Tiffany knew his thoughts, she would probably laugh at him for being naive. One of the conveniences of this dress was that he could squat down to use the toilet anytime, anywhere.
Otherwise, where did the stains that can be seen everywhere in Elfen come from?
It's just that Castor is located in a remote area, so she doesn't really need to dress up. Today is the first time she's dressed so formally since her marriage, just like Lanny is wearing a dress today.
When he saw Tiffany nod at him, Lanny snapped out of his daze. It seemed like the meal was about to begin, but what should he do?
For a moment, he felt a bit lost.
Several months have passed, and he hasn't had a chance to attend any noble parties or gatherings yet, so he doesn't know any of the etiquette!
What should I do? I need help urgently!
Of course, just lingering like this would be even more impolite, so he couldn't care less about anything else. He tried to recall some Western movies he had seen in another world and decided to try to imitate them.
Having devised a plan, he tapped the glass in front of him with a spoon, and an unpleasant clinking sound immediately filled the hall, naturally attracting everyone's attention.
Seeing that everyone was looking over, Lanny raised his not-so-exquisite bronze goblet and toasted Gino, saying, "I sincerely welcome Mr. Gino to our Castel Ridge. My wife and I raise a toast to you, wishing you a fruitful and smooth journey."
He was initially quite pleased with his quick wit, but when he noticed the surprised looks on the faces of those around him, his heart skipped a beat. He thought to himself, "Oh no, is it particularly impolite to tap a cup here?"
Just as he was awkwardly preparing to say something to ease the tension, Gino, with a mocking expression, also raised his glass. "Lanny, you've been to the capital? You actually know that this kind of etiquette is popular in the court now! But usually, they only knock three times. You knocked way too many times!"
Upon hearing Gino's words, everyone in the castle suddenly realized what was going on. Lanny, however, felt disgusted. Ever since Gino met Tiffany, he had been constantly belittling him, which was increasingly annoying to watch.
Damn it, you've really angered me. Can't we just stop making money? I'm not selling anymore!
"I did stay in the capital before, but I returned later due to family matters. Haha, Young Master Gino is truly knowledgeable and has a remarkable memory. I can't even remember such a trivial matter as how many times to knock. Young Master Gino, please!"
Lanny chuckled, clinked glasses with Tiffany and the other person, and downed his glass of green wine in one gulp.
Although Lanny spoke humbly, his words were barbed. Ironically, Gino didn't catch the sarcasm in Lanny's words and drank the toast with a smug look on his face. However, he frowned at the terrible taste of the green wine and felt even more disgusted.
He found this remote and impoverished place really annoying, where he couldn't even get a decent glass of ale.
Afterwards, the group ate their food and talked in hushed tones. Gino, who had been aloof when he first entered the castle, started to bother Tiffany with all sorts of topics, which annoyed her to no end, yet she had no choice but to deal with him.
If she hadn't been worried about angering the Grand Duke, she would have already thrown a cup of wine at him.
Lanny was also displeased with this, and tried several times to forcefully take over the conversation, but Gino avoided him and turned around to try to talk to Tiffany with a grin.
Seeing Gino's slicked-back hair and powdered face, Lenny clenched his fists in anger, secretly vowing—"You better not fall into my hands, or else... hmph..."
Just as Lanny was secretly angry, Randall and Tim exchanged a few words and then suddenly turned to look at him. "Baron, you must know that Mr. Tim sold several Dark-patterned swords in Elfen before!"
“Yes, that’s right. Mr. Randall, please try this dish. This grouse is a specialty of our Caster Ridge, and you don’t see it often outside.” Lanny nodded, forcibly suppressing his anger, and pushed the plate in front of him forward.
"You're too kind..." Randall said politely at first, before continuing, "Of course, these dark-patterned swords have all been purchased by our young master Gino. But if I may ask, is the Wells family facing some difficulties?"
"Yes, my father was a bit aggressive in his strategy before. So now the family needs some external support, which I think many people know."
Lanny didn't hide anything about the Wells family's predicament; he shrugged and nodded readily.
Since we can't hide it anyway, why bother being a villain?
It's not just radical, it's downright suicidal. August actually dared to lead these creditors into battle while still owing money to the knights. There's no one else like him.
Looking back now, Tim finds it somewhat unbelievable that he didn't think to advise August back then.
Hearing Lanny readily agree, Randall was overjoyed. He was afraid that Lanny would refuse to admit it due to his noble status, which would have required a lot of effort from him.
"Oh, since the Wells family is facing difficulties, the Williams family, also a noble family, is willing to lend a helping hand to you and your family to overcome this crisis. I believe our young master is also..."
He turned to look at the young master, only to find, with embarrassment, that his unreliable young master was fawning over the Baroness, like a lark vying for the right to mate.
"Cough cough..."
He awkwardly looked away, coughed lightly, and then said again, "Our Duke Williams has always admired talented young people, and I believe he would be very willing to help such a promising young nobleman as you."
Looking at Randall's sincere face, Lanny sneered inwardly.
Haha, am I a young talent?
If my reputation as a playboy qualifies me as a young talent, then the North must be teeming with them. Help? More like taking advantage of their misfortune, isn't it?
He was quite interested to hear how Randall planned to deceive him, a minor country nobleman.
"Oh, really? Thank you so much. But when will I be able to get your help? The castle isn't in a good situation right now, and I hope the Duke's help will come as soon as possible!" Lanny feigned excitement, widening his eyes and craning his neck, displaying a greedy expression to the fullest extent.
"hehe"
Seeing that Lanny was indeed as he had expected, Randall was no longer in a hurry. He smiled slightly, slowly picked up a piece of food and put it in his mouth before slowly saying, "Don't worry, don't worry. The Duke's help is always available. As long as we agree, I believe the Duke's gift will be delivered in a few days at the earliest. Based on my understanding of the Duke, I believe it will be no less than 500 gold coins."
He paused slightly, extending a hand to whet Lanny's appetite, before slowly continuing, "The Duke's help doesn't require you to give anything in return, so you don't need to worry!"
"But... you probably wouldn't want the Duke to spend any more money on transportation and losses along the way, would you?"
Although Lanny appeared greedy on the surface, he was both surprised and amused inside.
Listening to the other person's words, he felt an overwhelming sense of familiarity. Wasn't this the same trick used in later generations where you had to pay for shipping after winning a prize? He could almost guess what would happen next—it would just be about him paying for shipping. He just didn't know what the other person had their eye on.
Having already traveled through time, the fact that he could still encounter this classic scam made him wonder if he had traveled into a fake world!
"What do I have to give up? Gold coins? The castle doesn't have many gold coins left, what am I going to do!" Although his mind was racing and he was about to lose his composure, he still wanted to see what exactly Randall was eyeing in the castle.
Randall's feelings were different from Lanny's. In his eyes, this country bumpkin was arrogant and stupid. Who else would he be fooling if not him? You just scolded me, huh!
The thought of getting revenge on this pretty boy soon filled Randall with immense satisfaction, and even his smile brightened considerably.
"Haha, you don't need to pay any gold coins. I just heard that you obtained the forging method for the Dark Pattern Sword. You only need to make a copy of this method and give it to the Duke. It will only cost a little parchment. Isn't that a good deal?"
Leaning slightly forward, Randall said sincerely, "Anyway, the method is just shared. You can continue to manufacture it. You haven't lost anything, have you?"
Seeing the sincerity on the other person's face, Lanny sneered inwardly. So that's who they've got their eye on. This is truly a trick to fool a nouveau riche.
Although it sounds like there's no problem, once the Williams family masters the manufacturing method, there are a million ways to make this minor nobleman's dark-patterned sword business fail.
It seemed this was the other party's purpose in coming: to obtain the forging method of the Dark Pattern Sword for free with a promise. He believed that as long as he handed over the forging method now, the so-called help would be a distant dream.
These people don't seem friendly... Looking at Randall's smiling face, Lanny secretly resolved that as long as they were in Custer, the backyard workshop would not open and would not produce anything.
"Haha, really? The Wilms family is so kind." Lanny looked at Randall with an innocent expression, making Randall secretly delighted.
It seems this bumpkin really believes it! Looking at Lanny's expression, Randall felt that the matter was settled.
Just imagining that pretty boy later on, looking regretful and beating his chest, made him feel as refreshed and relaxed as eating a smoothie in June!
Even Tim, separated from Tiffany, was fooled by Lenny's expression, his face full of anxiety, afraid that Lenny would impulsively agree. However, with the mistress in between, he really couldn't do anything to remind her.
“However… ” Lanny drawled out the last word!
But his next words steered the two people watching the conversation in a completely different direction: "We really haven't mastered the forging technique for the Dark Pattern Sword. What should we do? Will the Duke still help us?"
Uh... Randall, who was envisioning a bountiful reward, was nearly choked to death.
Tim, on the other hand, felt that Lenny's expression looked so familiar. After a while, he realized that Lenny was teasing the butler, and he almost burst out laughing.
"Haha... Where did this kid learn all this? I thought he was actually going to agree! Haha..."
The once confident butler, Randall, panicked upon hearing this. For a moment, he disregarded the fact that the person in front of him was a baron and questioned repeatedly, "Then where did your Dark-Patterned Sword come from? It was clearly newly forged; it could not possibly have been obtained before, as Tim claimed!"
