Farming in the Magical World

Chapter 31 Lanny in My Eyes

Four days later, early morning.

At the castle gate, Tim rode his warhorse, dressed in knight's attire with a dark-patterned sword at his waist, looking majestic.

Two long cloth bags hung on either side of the horse, containing the dark-patterned swords that the castle had been rushing to finish in the past few days.

To make them easier to carry, Tiffany even made a cloth bag and put all the patterned swords inside.

The reason he set off on horseback before dawn was to go to the largest nearby city, Elfen, to sell these longswords.

He had been waiting impatiently for the past few days, eager to pack his things and set off immediately to resolve the castle's financial difficulties and build Castor's noble army as soon as possible.

Beside the knight stood a carriage, a standard baronial vehicle of the kingdom with only one horse, the very family vehicle of Baron Wells.

This was practically the only thing the Wells family could call prestigious, but it still looked rather shabby, with little decoration and some of the iron parts already showing signs of rust.

The carriage was driven by Joseph, the castle's coachman, and inside sat Tiffany, the castle's mistress. She was going to accompany Tim back to the Earl's house under the guise of visiting relatives.

"Be careful on the road, darling," Lanny whispered, giving Tiffany a gentle kiss on the cheek.

He knew it wasn't safe outside right now, and if it weren't for the 500 gold coins weighing on his mind, he wouldn't have let Tiffany risk going to the Enoch family to plead for them.

"Don't worry, this road is relatively safe, and we have Lord Tim with us!" Tiffany blushed slightly, still feeling a little uncomfortable being so intimate with Lanny in public, and gently nudged him.

"If Father doesn't agree, then forget it. Don't force him. We'll think of something when we get back. There's still plenty of time, and your husband isn't an ordinary person; he'll definitely find a way. Also, don't be angry with your older siblings. My reputation... ...Got it?"

He first gave Tiffany, who was in the carriage, a long, rambling explanation, until Tiffany impatiently pushed him away. Only then did he turn and walk toward Tim.

Lenny didn't notice that after he turned around, Tiffany was nervously clutching the hem of her clothes, her lips biting white.

"Uncle Tim, did you remember what I told you?" Lanny looked at Tim sitting on his horse and the conspicuous scar on his face. He was worried about Tim's memory and even more worried that Tim might draw his sword when he was doing business with someone.

Logically, it would seem much better if Frank were to step in, but the problem is that this isn't a regular sale; it's an unusual situation.

To this end, he even prepared some lines and a script for Tim, just to see if the knight could play the role well.

The longsword business is generally monopolized by the great nobles. It's not that there aren't blacksmith shops selling knight's swords outside, but the quality of these longswords is questionable, and their target customers are basically impoverished knights, with the main selling point being their low price.

Lanny, on the other hand, suggested that Tim take a risky approach, hoping to sell the longswords for a high price and alleviate the castle's financial difficulties.

"Don't worry, I've remembered everything. Madam, you don't need to worry either, I'm here!" Tim twitched the corner of his mouth, thinking of the method the young master had taught him, awkwardly touched his nose, waved goodbye to everyone, and urged his horse to set off.

"Tim, come back soon, I'll prepare your favorite food for you when you return..." Susan saw Tim preparing to leave, and with a look of reluctance on her face, she finally couldn't help but scream out, causing the people seeing him off to look at her sideways.

Upon hearing Susan's voice, Tim trembled, but ran even faster.

As Tim and the carriage disappeared from sight, Lanny glanced at Aunt Susan's "plump" figure and wondered if he should try to match them up.

Tim isn't young anymore, and he still doesn't have a child. I wonder what he's thinking.

 …

"Uncle Tim, are you hot? Why don't I ride the horse and you come in and rest for a while?"

It was midday, the hottest time of day, and a horse and a carriage were traveling on the northern road to Elfen.

It was called a main road, but it was actually just a dirt road, only about the width of a horse-drawn carriage, and the surface was uneven and not very smooth.

This road was built by the royal family when Andrew founded the kingdom to pacify the north. It hasn't been repaired in over a hundred years, so it's in very poor condition.

Tiffany's carriage, carrying the baron, couldn't travel very fast on such roads. It was almost noon, and they had only covered half the distance.

Tim was dressed in knight's attire, which was not very cool to begin with. With the sun shining brightly, he was sweating profusely, and even his beard was covered in beads of sweat.

On the contrary, Tiffany, who was riding in a carriage, did not feel too hot because the carriage roof provided shade and she could open all four windows.

Although Tim wasn't a nobleman, he was still an elder, and Lanny treated him with great respect. Tiffany naturally followed suit and treated him as an elder as well, inviting Tim to get in the car and rest.

The two hadn't spoken much during their journey. Tiffany didn't know how to communicate with this seemingly rude knight, while Tim simply didn't want to talk.

"It's alright, madam!"

Hearing the greeting from the carriage, Tim turned his head off the horse and smiled as he politely declined Tiffany's offer.

Although he always referred to Lanny as "that kid" in his heart and always treated Lanny as a junior, in formal occasions he always addressed Lanny as Lord Lanny. Tiffany was Lanny's wife, so he naturally had to call her "Madam."

Moreover, the rumors he heard about Tiffany in Elfen were not good; she was said to be arrogant, domineering, and lacking in manners.

Although Tiffany had been at the castle for quite some time, it was inconvenient for him, as a male elder, to have too much contact with her.

Moreover, during the first three months, Tiffany either stayed in her bedroom or sat at a table in the flowerbed in front of the castle, drinking hot drinks and looking at the flowers. It was really hard to discern any particular personality from her.

In addition, all his attention was focused on Lanny at the time, so he had no energy to pay attention to this unfamiliar baroness.

However, after such a long time, he had not heard of Tiffany being particularly bad to the servants, and he did not have a bad impression of her, but it was impossible for him to say that she was particularly good.

He had initially refused when Lanny asked him to take Tiffany back to Elfen, as it would be inconvenient to go out with such a delicate lady of the lord.

Later, Lanny persuaded him with a single sentence: "Tiffany returned to Elfen mainly to plead with Earl Angus and hope to postpone the previous debt of 500 gold coins."

He knew what the castle looked like now, and he didn't think the Wells family would be able to repay the money in half a year. Under such circumstances, he naturally couldn't refuse.

Tiffany's suggestion was politely declined, but she didn't seem too angry. Instead, she seemed to have opened a floodgate of conversation. She shifted her body and sat in a more forward position, leaning against the carriage door, and started chatting with Tim.

"Uncle Tim, I've always been curious, Lenny is a really nice guy, why do people talk about him like that outside?"

Tim didn't answer the question directly; instead, he asked Tiffany a question.

"So, in your opinion, what kind of person is Lanny?"

Tiffany paused, lowered her head and thought for a moment, recalling her recent interactions, and murmured, "He is very thoughtful and gentle, has a good temper, is very serious and focused when he does things, and is also very kind to the servants."

When the topic of gentleness came up, she seemed to think of something embarrassing, and her face flushed slightly.

After speaking, she raised her head and looked at Tim with her captivating blue eyes, asking in a question, "This is quite different from what's being said outside. It's almost like a different person."

Tim murmured, "Yeah, it's like he's a completely different person!"

"What?" Tiffany didn't hear the murmur clearly.

Tim then smiled and asked, "Isn't this great? Why bother about what kind of person he was before?"

"But I want to know him better, after all, we're going to live together for decades!" Her voice trailed off as she spoke, feeling shy about saying these things in front of her elders.

"Can you tell me about Lanny? What was he like before? Did he really go to the capital? Did he really have many lovers?"

Tim was speechless as he looked at Tiffany, who was as curious as a baby.

Could he be saying that back then, for the sake of a woman, Lanny really did chase after her all the way to the capital, even claiming to be attending some kind of royal noble knight training class? But he didn't even attend a single day of knight lessons, only caring about going out to find those promiscuous women, and even forgetting about the woman he was once so infatuated with?

Was he going to say that this kid had countless lovers in Elfen, spent his days hanging out with noble youths, either fighting or going out to find Mesopotamian women? That he was either drinking or already drunk every day?

Could he possibly say that this kid used to be quick to fly into a rage, barely listened to August, and constantly beat and scolded the servants?

As for respect? Absolutely not. He still remembered that back then, this kid either called him Tim or "that old guy."

Even Augustus, he only showed respect on the surface, but behind his back he called him "that old man". If he gave him money to go out drinking and find women, he would call him father. If he didn't give him money, he would mutter a few words about "old man".

Back then, Lanny spent almost the entire year hanging around Elfen, and when he returned to the castle, it was mostly just to collect money so he could go back to Elfen.

Of course, young people always have a rebellious phase. When he was young, he was also unable to inherit the noble title, so in a fit of anger, he traveled the continent with August. It has been almost twenty years since then, and he has never returned to his hometown.

In his eyes, Lanny was just a little rebellious and immature, and at most he was a little too fond of women, which was not a big problem.

Once he matures and becomes sensible, these bad habits will naturally disappear.

Looking at things now, especially after Lenny recovered from his injury and got up, he's been doing really well, as if he's suddenly enlightened.

So, after thinking for a long time, he said to Tiffany with deep feeling, "Now that you've married Lanny, you naturally have plenty of time to get to know him. What he was like before isn't important; what's important is what he'll be like in the future. What do you think?"

Yes, does it really matter how he was before?

Tiffany fell into deep thought as she repeated Tim's wise words.
