Farming in the Magical World

Chapter 115 Unlucky Wright

"Are you sure you want to stop now? Aren't you afraid the magician will escape?"

Hearing her say that, Lanny realized her purpose and quickly looked out the window again. She was relieved to find that the figure was still there.

Now is not the time to talk about these things. We can talk about it anytime after we catch this guy.

After mentally calculating again and finding that the danger was not great, he whispered some instructions to Melissa, then turned and went downstairs to call a guard up and make some arrangements.

It's just that Tim has been staying at the camp recently, otherwise there would be no need for such trouble; you could just ask Tim to take care of it.

The servants were already resting, and the castle was very quiet, with almost no lights on the first floor.

He could only use the dim light coming from the second-floor study to walk down to the first floor.

As soon as he reached the first floor and looked around at the darkness, he suddenly regretted it. What if the magician had accomplices and had taken the opportunity to sneak into the castle? Wouldn't he be in great danger?

But since he had already come this far, there was no turning back. He could only grit his teeth and continue forward, keeping a close watch on any possible attacks while praying that the mage didn't have any accomplices.

Whether it was good luck or his prayers that worked, he didn't receive any attacks when he reached the entrance of the hall.

"You two, can one of you come to the study and help me move some things?" Standing some distance from the doorway, he tried to keep his tone calm as he called out from afar, taking the opportunity to glance at the spot where the person was hiding.

Sure enough, the place was rather dark, and there was no way to tell that a person was hiding there.

"Could it be because of the angle? Or does this Phantom Technique have the ability to change light?" Lanny wondered as he turned to go upstairs.

The two men on guard at the gate recognized the shout as Lanny's voice, since he often went to the camp at night to give the team members some motivational talks.

"Why don't you go?" one of the team members asked another, who was clearly stronger.

"Then be careful, I'm going first!" another team member hurriedly said before turning and entering the castle.

When he hurried upstairs to the study, knocked on the door and pushed it open, he found that Mr. Lanny was sitting behind his desk watching him, while his distant cousin, Ms. Melissa, was peeking out the window.

"Master..." Seeing that the two men showed no intention of moving anything, he saluted and was a little confused, not knowing what to do next.

"Shh, quiet!" Lanny gestured for his team to be quiet. "There's an emergency that requires your cooperation. Someone has trespassed into your patrol area..."

Upon hearing Lanny say that someone had already secretly infiltrated the vicinity of the castle gate, the team member was startled and immediately gripped his weapon tightly. "Where? Should I quietly go and inform the captain?"

“No,” Lanny shook his head and whispered, “In a moment, when the patrolmen reach the door, you do this… ”

He explained his plan several times until he was sure the team member understood, then waved his hand and said, "You can go now. Be careful not to show anything unusual, understand?"

“Yes,” the team member nodded. “I understand, sir… ”

"Melissa, is that guy still there?" After watching his teammates leave, Lenny turned around and asked Melissa at the window.

“This guy has a lot of patience. He obviously wants to wait until you rest before entering the castle to search... ...or, while you’re asleep, he’ll give you a sword strike?” Melissa looked at Lanny with a half-smile.

She didn't care about his desire to capture the other person, but watching the little brother methodically plan his actions piqued her interest, like watching a fun game.

"No way?... " The thought of being stabbed in the sleep sent a chill down Lanny's spine...

Waiting is boring, especially for Lenny, who has arranged everything and is sitting in his chair waiting for the results. He fiddles with this and that, and is even getting a little anxious.

For some reason, he remembered that he had always wanted to make a sofa. The chairs in this castle were hard and uncomfortable, but he never had time to make arrangements for it. In the three or four months since he came to this world, apart from the time he spent lying in bed at the beginning, he felt like he was being pushed around.

Why don't I take advantage of this free time to get it done? So I can avoid feeling unsettled.

Without hesitation, he took out parchment from the drawer, dipped a quill pen in ink, and began to draw on the parchment, recalling the appearance of the sofa he had seen in his previous life.

Of course, he only drew the exterior; as for the interior? Let Cody worry about that.

Melissa, who had been keeping an eye on the intruder, glanced back and saw his reaction, and nodded in admiration for his composure.

 …

Wright felt extremely unlucky today.

He originally thought it was a very simple task. He only needed to come to the North, enjoy the scenery, experience the women of the North, and take a trip to the territory of that rural nobleman before he could retire successfully.

He didn't think a country nobleman could pose any threat to him, a magician.

Perhaps that guy named "Lanny" doesn't even know that there are such amazing people as magicians in the world? If I suddenly appeared in front of Lanny, I wonder if the other guy would be so scared that he would wet his pants?

When he first took on this task, he even had this thought, and even mischievously wondered if he should actually scare the person after getting what he needed... Haha, that would be quite interesting!

Initially, everything went as smoothly as expected. He and the knights sent by his employer arrived in Elfen the day before yesterday. The journey was very smooth, and they didn't even encounter many bandits.

After arriving in Elfen, he even went out of his way to experience the warmth of the women in the North. Although he was somewhat disappointed, they were not as charming as the women in the capital and looked like country bumpkins. However, the price was cheap enough, so it was still acceptable.

This morning, Wright, who had just woken up in the arms of a young girl, finally remembered his mission in the North. He struggled to get out of the comforting embrace, tidied himself up, and prepared to head to the rural place called "Cast Ridge," while also stopping the knight named "Fern Carter" from following him.

He certainly didn't want to have to be on guard against this guy while he was on a mission.

However, he still made some arrangements with the knight, saying that he would return around tomorrow, or at the latest within three days.

However, he didn't think this little castle could hold him for three days...

If everything had gone smoothly until he entered Caster Ridge, he immediately had a bad feeling.

He had just entered the Caster Ridge area when he passed a hill and spotted two figures peeking in the direction he had come from. If he hadn't been alert enough, they probably would have spotted him.

He wouldn't have paid attention to ordinary villagers, but these two were clearly not.

There was a simple hut built on the mountaintop, with no farmland or trees around, so it could not have been a farmer or a hunter.

As he cautiously approached the two men, what he overheard confirmed that they were likely part of a sentry post.

"Slap... Sigh, I really envy Tommy. He came in with us, and he's already a captain. I still have to stay here until tomorrow." One of them slapped his thigh hard, killing a mosquito, while muttering words of envy.

"Tch, serves you right for not earning any war merits back then!" The second guy clearly scoffed at the first man's words. "Besides, those greenhorns are hard to manage. You might get driven crazy before you even get started, haha..."

"Hey, who do you think the captain and the others are trying to protect us from by making us come here on duty?" The chattering guy suddenly changed the subject again, which made Wright, who was eavesdropping, tense up and prick up his ears.

"Who knows? Anyway, we'll go back and report as soon as we find the main force. We don't need you to stop us!" The second person didn't reveal any secrets, but just waved his hand impatiently. "Why do you care so much? Just let us come. It's only for one day. It's not like you have to stay here the whole time."

"It's mainly because I'm so bored, tsk... ...It's only been half a day, and all the mosquitoes around here know me, they keep crawling all over me... ...smack!"

Upon hearing this, Wright lost interest in listening any further, carefully retreated down the mountain, and continued towards his destination.

Clearly, these two were sent by someone, and their mission was probably none of their business; it was mainly to guard against some large force.

However, he had a bad feeling.

This location is already within Caster's territory, so it goes without saying who sent these two people.

Wright became much more cautious on the rest of the journey and finally arrived near the castle before dark.

As described in the mission information, the castle was indeed very small.

But when he observed the hundreds of guards in front of the castle, the tight sentry posts at the gate, and the patrol teams that circled the castle every so often, he wanted to curse.

Wasn't this supposed to be just a small, rural noble territory? How come its defenses are almost on par with the royal palace?

He wanted to turn around and leave, but with this level of defense, he felt that if he were discovered, he would have a hard time escaping these guys' pursuit.

But after thinking it over, he decided not to rush back and to observe the situation further before making a decision.

It's easy for me to leave now, but what about my reputation and mission completion record?

Moreover, he was confident in his phantom technique. As long as he waited until dark and was careful not to be discovered, these guards would be nothing more than decorations.

He patiently waited in the distance until nightfall before finally taking action.

The process of approaching the castle went smoothly. Although he couldn't keep the Phantom spell active all the time, as long as he carefully avoided the patrolling guards, there was no difficulty in other areas.

Just as he was becoming somewhat complacent due to the increasing success and looking at the castle walls with some delight, he suddenly lost his footing and fell into a deep pit. Fortunately, he remained alert and did not cry out. However, he seemed to have stepped on something, and a sharp pain shot through his foot.

After carefully observing his surroundings, he realized that the despicable man had dug a trench around the castle, and he was now at the bottom of the trench, with a sharp wooden stake under his feet.

Fortunately, he reacted quickly. Although his foot was punctured, it was not pierced through, so the injury was not too serious. It was just unknown whether he was bleeding.

After struggling to climb out of the ditch, he limped around the patrol team and approached the castle gate under the cover of shadows, only to find that he seemed unable to get in and was stuck in this in-between position.

He was a little confused and didn't know what conditions the lord had offered. The two guards at the door were completely different from the guards of other lords he had encountered. They kept their big eyes scanning the surroundings, appearing extremely vigilant, which thwarted his plan to sneak in under the cover of night.

Of course, he didn't know at the time that the guards would be rotated every once in a while, and each guard's shift was not very long, so they were not as listless and sleepy as some other guards.

Looking at the two guards and feeling the pain in his feet, he couldn't help but feel anxious. He had been lying there for quite some time, and according to the time intervals he had recorded, the next patrol was approaching.

He looked around again and became somewhat frantic.

I know Phantom Magic, not Shadow Magic, so I can't teleport!

Just then, he suddenly heard a shout coming from inside the castle, as if calling for help. Just as he was delighted, thinking that this might be an opportunity, he was surprised to find that the two guys had not left together, and had left a guard behind.

Shouldn't you all be eagerly trying to impress the nobles? What's the point of leaving someone here?

Soon, the guard who had gone in to help came out, muttering something about how the master was too thin and weak, unable to even move a bookshelf, which drew a rebuke from another guard.

He wasn't sure if it was just his imagination, but although the guards who came out didn't show any obvious abnormalities, he always felt that the guy would intentionally or unintentionally glance at his hiding place a few times.

He checked his magic power and spellcasting again and found nothing wrong, which put his mind at ease.

After mentally calculating the time it would take for the patrol to approach, he finally made up his mind that if the patrol passed by without him having a chance to get close to the castle, he would leave immediately and make further plans later.

Soon, some firelight appeared in the distance, and a patrol team came out of the camp. A dozen or so people lined up in a column and carried torches as they walked toward the castle.

He lowered his eyelids and slowed his breathing, while increasing the supply of magic power to his Phantom Spell, shrinking himself as much as possible into the shadows. He calculated the patrol's location in his mind and secretly observed the guards' movements at the door.

He would rush into the castle as soon as he saw an opportunity, and leave immediately if he couldn't get in!

While trying his best to conceal himself, he silently made plans in his mind.

Fifty steps, thirty steps, twenty steps, ten steps...
